The study presents a historical analysis of the problems of standardization of methods for determining ESR. AZD9291 The modern approaches to the automation of ESR research are presented. It is shown that the solution to the problems of standardization of methods for determining ESR lies in the plane of regular intra-laboratory quality control. In accordance with the principles of evidence-based medicine, recommendations are given on the use of methods for determining ESR in clinical practice. The content of metal ions and proteins containing or binding these metals in amniotic fluid during different periods of physiological pregnancy and placental insufficiency (PI) was studied. The content of zinc, copper, magnesium, iron, zinc-α-2-glycoprotein, ferritin, ceruloplasmin and the activity of Ca2+, Mg2+-ATPase were estimated using spectrophotometric methods, immunoturbometric and enzyme immunoassay methods. It was found that in PI in both trimesters there is a decrease in the content of zinc, copper, iron and an increase in the level of copper. The indices of ceruloplasmin, ferritin, Ca2+, Mg2+-ATPase in PI are lower, and zinc-α-2-glycoprotein is higher than in similar periods of physiological gestation. A close correlation of different directions has been established between the level of metals and the corresponding proteins. The revealed violations obviously play a certain pathogenetic role in the development of PI, and the indicators of the ratio between metals can serve as markers for predicting the state of newborns.Hypothyroidism syndrome is one of the most common pathologies of the endocrine system. Assessment of euthyroid status can not always be carried out according to the TSH indicator. In a number of patients with normal TSH levels and a clinical picture of hypothyroidism, the serum T3 concentration is determined at the lower limit of the norm or below it with a high content of free T4 in the blood. In world practice, positive experience has been accumulated in the combined use of preparations of sodium levothyroxine and liothyronine, a synthetic form of exogenous triiodothyronine. A number of studies have noted the advantages of using combination therapy for hypothyroidism over levothyroxine monotherapy in certain groups of patients. Possible reasons for the ineffectiveness of standard treatment for hypothyroidism are described.Anomalous origin of the coronary artery from the pulmonary artery is a rare and potentially fatal congenital heart defect. Up to 90% of infants with an anomaly involving the left coronary artery die within the first year of life if left untreated. Patients who survive beyond infancy are at risk of sudden cardiac death. Cardiac CT and MRI are increasingly being used for the accurate diagnosis of this anomaly for prompt surgical restoration of the dual coronary artery system. Moreover, life-long imaging surveillance after surgery is necessary for these patients. In this pictorial review, multimodal cardiac imaging findings of this rare and potentially fatal coronary artery anomaly are comprehensively discussed, and representative images are provided to facilitate the understanding of this anomaly.
We aimed to evaluate the usefulness of arterial subtraction images for predicting the viability of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after locoregional therapy (LRT) using gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI and the Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System treatment response (LR-TR) algorithm.
This study included 90 patients (mean age ± standard deviation, 57 ± 9 years) who underwent liver transplantation or resection after LRT and had 73 viable and 32 nonviable HCCs. All patients underwent gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI before surgery. Two radiologists assessed the presence of LR-TR features, including arterial phase hyperenhancement (APHE) and LR-TR categories (viable, nonviable, or equivocal), using ordinary arterial-phase and arterial subtraction images. The reference standard for tumor viability was surgical pathology. The sensitivity of APHE for diagnosing viable HCC was compared between ordinary arterial-phase and arterial subtraction images. The sensitivity and specificity of the LR-TR algorithm for diagnosing voved the sensitivity while maintaining specificity for diagnosing viable HCC after LRT using gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI and the LR-TR algorithm.
Use of arterial subtraction images compared with ordinary arterial-phase images improved the sensitivity while maintaining specificity for diagnosing viable HCC after LRT using gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI and the LR-TR algorithm.
To evaluate the feasibility of a new three-dimensional (3D) MR fingerprinting (MRF) technique for the prostate gland by conducting phantom and clinical studies.
The new 3D MRF technique used in this study enables quick data acquisition and has a high resolution. For the phantom study, the MRF T1 and T2 values in an in-house phantom were compared with those of gold-standard mapping methods using linear regression analysis. For the clinical study, we evaluated 90 patients who underwent prostate imaging with MRF for suspected prostate cancer between September 2019 and February 2020. The mean T1 and T2 values were compared in the peripheral zone, transition zone, and focal lesions using paired
tests. The differences in the T1 and T2 values according to cancer aggressiveness were evaluated using one-way analysis of variance.
In the phantom study, the MRF T1 and T2 values showed a perfect correlation with the gold-standard T1 and T2 values (R > 0.99). In the clinical study, the T1 and T2 values in the peripheral zone were significantly higher than those in the transitional zone (
< 0.001, both). The T1 and T2 values in prostate cancer were significantly lower than those in the peripheral and transitional zones. The higher the grade of cancer, the lower the T2 values.
The T1 and T2 values obtained from the 3D MRF showed a perfect correlation with the gold standard values in the phantom study. Differences in the T1 and T2 values among the different zones of the prostate gland were identified using 3D MRF in patients.
The T1 and T2 values obtained from the 3D MRF showed a perfect correlation with the gold standard values in the phantom study. Differences in the T1 and T2 values among the different zones of the prostate gland were identified using 3D MRF in patients.
