The magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) spectra of metal complexes of tetrakis(thiadiazole)porphyrazines ([TTDPzM] with M = 2HI , ZnII , MgII (H2 O), and CdII ) have been recorded in dimethyl formamide solution. Together with the UV-Vis spectra, the MCD spectra provide useful information about the structure and electronic properties of the complexes. The experimental UV-Vis and MCD spectra compare pretty well with DFT calculations of two sorts, based either on the sum-over-states (SOS) approach or on the complex polarization propagator approach. They further corroborate the findings and interpretation of MCD spectra of porphyrazines based on the model of Michl for peripheral molecular orbitals. Magnetic circularly polarized luminescence (MCPL) spectra, quite uncommon in the literature, have been recorded for [TTDPzM] (M = 2HI , ZnII , MgII (H2 O)). © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.Bradyarrhythmias are a common complication following pediatric OHT and may require permanent pacemaker implantation (PPM). The purpose of this study was to investigate the incidence, predictors, and outcomes of children undergoing PPM implantation following OHT. A PRISMA-compliant systematic literature review was performed using the PubMed database and the Cochrane Library (end-of-search date January 27, 2019). The Newcastle-Ottawa scale and the Joanna Briggs Institute tool were used to assess the quality of cohort studies and case reports, respectively. We analyzed data from a total of 11 studies recruiting 7198 pediatric patients who underwent heart transplant. PPM implantation was performed in 1.9% (n = 137/7,198; 95% CI 1.6-2.2) of the patients. Most patients underwent dual-chamber pacing (46%, 95% CI 32.6-59.7). Male-to-female ratio was 1.31. Mean patient age at the time of OHT was 10.1 ± 6.3. Overall, biatrial anastomosis was used in 62.2% (95% CI 52.8-70.6) of the patients. The bicaval technique was performed in the remaining 37.8% (95% CI 29.4-47.1). Sinus node dysfunction was the most frequent indication for PPM implantation (54.4%; 95% CI 42.6-65.7) followed by AV block (45.6%; 95% CI 34.3-57.3). The median time interval between OHT and PPM implantation ranged from 17 days to 12.5 years. Iodoacetamide clinical trial All-cause mortality was 27.9% (95% CI 18.6-39.6) during a median follow-up of 5 years. PPM implantation is rarely required after pediatric OHT. The most common indication for pacing is sinus node dysfunction, and patients undergoing biatrial anastomosis may be more likely to require PPM. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.This study was conducted to investigate the effect of grape seed procyanidins (GSP) on growth performance, digestive enzyme activity, antioxidant enzyme activity and mRNA expression in weanling piglets. A total of 96 piglets (Pietrain × Large White) with an average initial body weight (BW) of 8.4 ± 1.7 kg were weaned at 28 days, and randomly divided into 4 groups. Four groups of animals were fed with a basic diet supplemented with various doses of GSP (0, 40, 70 and 100 mg/kg respectively) during the 28-day treatment period. The results showed that the group receiving 40 mg/kg GSP significantly increased the average daily gain (ADG, p less then .05) and decrease the feed/gain ratio (F/G, p less then .05). Interestingly, the incidence of diarrhoea was significantly reduced in the groups of 40 and 70 mg/kg GSP, but it was increased in the group of 100 mg/kg GSP. Subsequent biochemical studies indicated that dietary GSP significantly increased the activities of digestive enzymes and antioxidant enzymes, including amylase (Amy), lipase(LPS, p less then .05), glutathione peroxidase activity (GSH-Px, p less then .05), superoxide dismutase activity (SOD, p less then .05) and total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC, p less then .05) in serum, liver and muscle, increased the expression of GSH-Px, SOD and CAT genes (p less then .05) in the liver, and decreased the level of malondialdehyde (MDA, p less then .05) in serum, liver and muscle. Taken together, these studies revealed that low GSP supplement in diets can improve growth performance of weaned piglets, which is associated with increased digestive and antioxidant enzyme activities and enhanced resistance to weanling stress. © 2020 Blackwell Verlag GmbH.Recipients of donation after circulatory death (DCD) grafts are reportedly at higher risk of developing post liver transplant (LT) renal dysfunction. We compared the development of acute kidney injury (AKI) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) after LT in recipients of DCD vs. donation after brain death (DBD) or living donor (LD) livers. Adult recipients of DBD, LD and DCD LT between 2012-2016 at Toronto General Hospital were included. AKI was defined as post-LT increase of serum creatinine (sCr) ≥26.5µmol/L in within 48hrs or ≥50% increase from baseline, and CKD as eGFR 3 months. 681 patients (57 DCD, 446 DBD, 178 LD) with similar baseline co-morbidities were included. Peri-operative AKI (within the first 7 postoperative days) was observed more frequently in the DCD group (61%, DBD40%, LD44%; p=0.01) and was associated with significantly higher peak-AST levels (p less then 0.001). Additionally, patients in the DCD group had a significantly higher peak sCr (p less then 0.001), and a trend towards higher rates of AKI stage 3 (DCD33%, DBD21%, LD21%, p=0.11). The proportions of recovery from AKI (DCD77%, DBD72%, LD78%, p=0.45) and patients developing CKD (DCD33%, DBD32%, LD32%, p=0.99) were similar. Nevertheless, patients who received DCD or DBD LT and required perioperative renal replacement therapy (RRT) showed significantly lower patient survival in multivariate analysis (HR 7.90, 95%CI 4.51-13.83, p less then 0.001). CONCLUSION Recipients of DCD liver grafts experience higher rates of short-term post-LT renal dysfunction compared to DBD or LD. Additional risk factors for the development of severe kidney injury, such as high MELD score, massive transfusions or high donor age should be avoided. This article is protected by copyright. Numerous studies have shown that ITCs exhibit anticancer activity by affecting multiple pathways including apoptosis and oxidative stress, and are expected to be developed into novel anticancer drugs. In our previous studies, we demonstrated that ITCs effectively inhibit the proliferation of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells, also induce apoptosis and autophagy. In the present study, we found that phenethyl isothiocyanate (PEITC) had significant synergistic effects with epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor Gefitinib in NSCLC cell lines NCI-H1299 and SK-MES-1; and the degradation of antiapoptotic factor myeloid cell leukemia 1 (Mcl-1) caused by PEITC treatment played key roles in the sensitivity of NSCLC cells to Gefitinib. We further illustrated that PEITC regulated the expression of Mcl-1 through protein kinase RNA-like endoplasmic reticulum kinase (PERK)-eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2α-CHOP-Noxa pathway by a posttranscriptional modulation.
