The comparative study was conducted in the paediatric neurological emergency unit of The Children's Hospital and the Institute of Child Health, Multan, Pakistan, from December 15, 2018, to May 14, 2019, and comprised paediatric patients of status epilepticus seizures which were divided into Diazepam and Midazolam groups. Data was analysed using Graph-Pad Prism 5.

Of the 164 patients, 82(50%) were in each of the two groups. There was no significant difference between the groups in terms of weight, age, residence area of patients and mean duration of seizures (p>0.05). Status epilepticus seizures subsided after intravenous midazolam administration in 77(93.90%) cases, while success in the diazepam group 64(78.05%) (p<0.05). Mean time taken by midazolam to halt seizures was significantly shorter than diazepam (p<0.05) and less cases of treatment failure were observed with intravenous midazolam (p<0.05). Somnolence was observed after diazepam administration in 47(57.3%) cases (p=0.0001).

To compare the efficacy of Gene Xpert mycobacterium tuberculosis-rifampicin and multiplex polymerase chain reacton for the detection of mycobacterium tuberculosis and Rifampicin resistance.

The cross-sectional validation study was conducted at the Department of Microbiology, Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, Rawalpindi, Pakistan, from March to October 2018, and comprised mycobacterium tuberculosis-positive rifampicin-resistant and rifampicin-susceptible samples, with the latter acting as negative controls. Gene Xpert mycobacterium tuberculosis-rifampicin assasy and multiplex polymerase chain reacton were applied simultaneously and compared with gold standard mycobacterium growth indicator tube 960. Data was analysed using SPSS 24.

Of the 192 samples, 84(44%) were culture-positive rifampicin-resistant and 108(56%) were culture-positive rifampicin-susceptible. Overall, 84(44%) were found positive. Gene Xpert mycobacterium tuberculosis-rifampicin assay detected all 84(100%) rifampicin-resistant samples, while multiplex polymerase chain reacton detected 44(52.3%) such samples. Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value of Gene Xpert were 100% each respectively, while the corresponding values for multiplex polymerase chain reacton were 52%, 100%, 100% and 72% respectively.

The cross-sectional study was conducted at the Department of Cytogenetics and Molecular Pathology, National Institute of Blood Diseases and Bone Marrow Transplant, Karachi, from May 2010 to September 2016 and comprised diagnosed chronic myeloid leukaemia patients regardless of age and gender. There were 222 cases with a median age of 38 years (range 12-84 years). The male-to-female ratio was 1.81. Chronic myeloid leukaemia was detected in 18(8.1%) patients having additional cytogenetic abnormalities. The comparative cross-sectional study was conducted in schools affiliated with Punjab Education Foundation, Gujrat, Pakistan, from January -to June 2019, and comprised children diagnosed with Specific Learning Disorder and age-matched and class matched high achievers as controls. Bender Gestalt Test II with copy test, recall test, perceptual test and motor test subscales was administered on both the groups for the assessment of neuropsychological functioning. Data was analysed using SPSS 21.

Of 116 subjects, 64(55.2%) were cases and 52(44.8%) controls. Overall, there were 64(55.2%) girls and 52(44.8%) boys with a mean age of 10.41±1.14. There was significant difference on recall test (p<0.01) between the groups which had 100% predictive power.

The cross-sectional co-relational study was conducted at the Government College University, Lahore, Pakistan, from November 2017 to November 2018, and comprised diabetics aged 25-55 years. Other than demographic information, data was collected using the Urdu versions of the Defense Style Questionnaire, the Medication Adherence Scale, and the Diabetic Self-management Questionnaire. Data was analysed using SPSS 22.

Of the 150 patients, 75(50%) each were females and males. Mature defence mechanisms, like sublimation, suppression and humour, were significant predictors of self-management (p<0.001), and mature defence mechanism, like sublimation, was a significant predictor of medication adherence (p<0.05). Females were high on neurotic defence mechanism, like pseudo-altruism, compared to the males (p=0.001).

Medication adherence and self-management were found to be dependent on mature defence mechanisms.
