4 based on a seven-fold range of Kp values. In vitro corneal cell uptake showed a high correlation with the ex vivo corneal epithelium/donor Kp values. Partitioning of the drugs into the porcine conjunctiva also showed a positive relationship with lipophilicity, but the range of Kp values was less than with the corneal epithelium. MALDI-IMS allowed simultaneous detection of three compounds in the cornea, showed data in line with other experiments, and revealed uneven spatial drug distribution in the cornea. Our data indicate the importance of lipophilicity in defining the corneal pharmacokinetics and the Kp values are a useful building block in the kinetic simulation models for topical ocular drug administration.Specific inhibition of NADPH oxidases (NOX) and NO-synthases (NOS), two enzymes associated with redox stress in tumor cells, has aroused great pharmacological interest. Here, we show how these enzymes distinguish between isomeric 2'- and 3'-phosphate derivatives, a difference used to improve the specificity of inhibition by isolated 2'- and 3'-phosphate isomers of our NADPH analogue NS1. Both isomers become fluorescent upon binding to their target proteins as observed by in vitro assay and in vivo imaging. The 2'-phosphate isomer of NS1 exerted more pronounced effects on NOS and NOX-dependent physiological responses than the 3'-phosphate isomer did. Docking and molecular dynamics simulations explain this specificity at the level of the NADPH site of NOX and NOS, where conserved arginine residues distinguished between the 2'-phosphate over the 3'-phosphate group, in favor of the 2'-phosphate.This work presents methods for miniaturizing and characterizing a modified dipole antenna dedicated to the implementation of wireless power transmission systems. The antenna size should respect the planar dimensions of 60 mm × 30 mm to be integrated with small IoT devices such as a Bluetooth Lower Energy Sensing Node. The provided design is based on a folded short-circuited dipole antenna, also named a T-match antenna. Faced with the difficulty of reducing the physical dimensions of the antenna, we propose a 3D configuration by adding vertical metallic arms on the edges of the antenna. The adopted 3D design has an overall size of 56 mm × 32 mm × 10 mm at 868 MHz. Three antenna-feeding techniques were evaluated to characterize this antenna. They consist of soldering a U.FL connector on the input port; vertically connecting a tapered balun to the antenna; and integrating a microstrip transition to the layer of the antenna. The experimental results of the selected feeding techniques show good agreements and the antenna has a maximum gain of +1.54 dBi in the elevation plane (E-plane). In addition, a final modification was operated to the designed antenna to have a more compact structure with a size of 40 mm × 30 mm × 10 mm at 868 MHz. Such modification reduces the radiation surface of the antenna and so the antenna gain and bandwidth. This antenna can achieve a maximum gain of +1.1 dBi in the E-plane. The two antennas proposed in this paper were then associated with a rectifier to perform energy harvesting for powering Bluetooth Low Energy wireless sensors. The measured RF-DC (radiofrequency to direct current) conversion efficiency is 73.88% (first design) and 60.21% (second design) with an illuminating power density of 3.1 µW/cm2 at 868 MHz with a 10 kΩ load resistor. The health effects of saturated fat, particularly tropical oil, on cardiovascular disease are unclear. We investigated the effect of tropical oil (palm and coconut oils), lard, and other common vegetable oils (soybean and rice bran oils) that are widely used in tropical and Asian countries on lipid profiles. We performed an umbrella review of meta-analyses and systematic reviews. Electronic databases (Medline, Scopus, Embase, and Cochrane) were searched up to December 2018 without language restriction. We identified nine meta-analyses that investigated the effect of dietary oils on lipid levels. Replacement of polyunsaturated fatty-acid-rich oils (PUFAs) and monounsaturated FA-rich oils (MUFAs) with palm oil significantly increased low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c), by 3.43 (0.44-6.41) mg/dL and 9.18 (6.90-11.45) mg/dL, respectively, and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c), by 1.89 (1.23-2.55) mg/dL and 0.94 (-0.07-1.97) mg/dL, respectively. Replacement of PUFAs with coconut oil significantly increased HDL-c and total cholesterol -by 2.27 (0.93-3.6) mg/dL and 5.88 (0.21-11.55) mg/dL, respectively-but not LDL-c. selleck kinase inhibitor Substituting lard for MUFAs and PUFAs increased LDL-c-by 8.39 (2.83-13.95) mg/dL and 9.85 (6.06-13.65) mg/dL, respectively-but not HDL-c. Soybean oil substituted for other PUFAs had no effect on lipid levels, while rice bran oil substitution decreased LDL-c. Our findings show the deleterious effect of saturated fats from animal sources on lipid profiles. Replacement of unsaturated plant-derived fats with plant-derived saturated fats slightly increases LDL-c but also increases HDL-c, which in turn may exert a neutral effect on cardiovascular health.Fifth-generation (5G) networks will not satisfy the requirements of the latency, bandwidth, and traffic density in 2030 and beyond, and next-generation wireless communication networks with revolutionary enabling technologies will be required. Beyond 5G (B5G)/sixth-generation (6G) networks will achieve superior performance by providing advanced functions such as ultralow latency, ultrahigh reliability, global coverage, massive connectivity, and better intelligence and security levels. Important aspects of B5G/6G networks require the modification and exploitation of promising physical-layer technologies. This Special Issue (SI) presents research efforts to identify and discuss the novel techniques, technical challenges, and promising solution methods of physical-layer technologies with a vision of potential involvement in the B5G/6G era. In particular, this SI presents innovations and concepts, including nonorthogonal multiple access, massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO), energy harvesting, hybrid satellite terrestrial relays, Internet of Things-based home automation, millimeter-wave bands, device-to-device communication, and artificial-intelligence or machine-learning techniques.
