We observed 85 instances of sick leave and 33 transfer apllications/resignation associated with hfV. The frequency of hfV predicted the frequency of FeM (R² = 0.307, F = 21.719, p less then .001). MaB correlated positively with hfV (r = 0.507, p less then .001). Conclusions The descriptive data indicate that hfV and FeM are not general phenomena but occur mainly in a circumscript number of highly specialized facilities. This emphasizes the need for prevention of hfV and FeM.Aim Examine real-world characteristics, treatment patterns, and outcomes among treated persons with hemophilia A (PwHA) stratified by age. Patients & methods This study utilized US claims data from 1 January 2007-31 July 2018 from the Humana Research Database. Unadjusted comparisons were conducted across PwHA ( less then 18, 18-55, 56-89 years) enrolled in commercial or Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug plans. Results A total of 294 PwHA were identified; 21.1% experienced ≥1 bleeding event, and 41.2 and 53.1% had evidence of arthropathy or related disorders, and pain, respectively. Along with all-cause and hemophilia-related healthcare resource utilization (HCRU), these were highest among PwHA aged 56-89 years. Conclusion Insights into treatment, outcomes and HCRU may identify opportunities for enhanced disease management, particularly in older PwHA.Background Most of the circulating sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) is bound to ApoM (apolipoprotein M) of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and mediates many beneficial effects of HDL on the vasculature via G protein-coupled S1P receptors. HDL-bound S1P is decreased in atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction, and diabetes mellitus. In addition to being the target, the endothelium is a source of S1P, which is transported outside of the cells by Spinster-2, contributing to circulating S1P as well as to local signaling. Mice lacking endothelial S1P receptor 1 are hypertensive, suggesting a vasculoprotective role of S1P signaling. This study investigates the role of endothelial-derived S1P and ApoM-bound S1P in regulating vascular tone and blood pressure. Methods and Results ApoM knockout (ApoM KO) mice and mice lacking endothelial Spinster-2 (ECKO-Spns2) were infused with angiotensin II for 28 days. Blood pressure, measured by telemetry and tail-cuff, was significantly increased in both ECKO-Spns2 and ApoM KO versus control mice, at baseline and following angiotensin II. Notably, ECKO-Spns2 presented an impaired vasodilation to flow and blood pressure dipping, which is clinically associated with increased risk for cardiovascular events. Deoxycholic acid sodium in vivo In hypertension, both groups presented reduced flow-mediated vasodilation and some degree of impairment in endothelial NO production, which was more evident in ECKO-Spns2. Increased hypertension in ECKO-Spns2 and ApoM KO mice correlated with worsened cardiac hypertrophy versus controls. Conclusions Our study identifies an important role for Spinster-2 and ApoM-HDL in blood pressure homeostasis via S1P-NO signaling and dissects the pathophysiological impact of endothelial-derived S1P and ApoM of HDL-bound S1P in hypertension and cardiac hypertrophy. The secondary (β) relaxation is an intrinsic feature of glassy systems and is crucial for the mechanical properties of metallic glasses. However, it remains puzzling what structural features control the β-relaxation fundamentally. Here, we use the recently developed nanoglasses exhibiting well-defined structural features at the nanometer scale to interrogate such structure-dynamics relations. We show that an electrodeposited Ni77.5P22.5 nanoglass exhibits promoted β-relaxation and enhanced microscale tensile plasticity over the most rapidly melt-quenched metallic glass with the same composition. Structurally, the β-relaxation is sensitive to the interfacial regions among grains in the nanoglasses. Our results reveal a clear correlation between the amorphous nanostructures and the β-relaxation. It seems that the nanostructuring represents a novel route to obtain high-energy glassy states, that is, the inverse problem of the ultrastable glass. As a kind of biocompatible material with long history, silk fibroin is one of the ideal platforms for on-skin and implantable electronic devices, especially for self-powered systems. In this work, to solve the intrinsic brittleness as well as poor chemical stability of pure silk fibroin film, mesoscopic doping of regenerated silk fibroin is introduced to promote the secondary structure transformation, resulting in huge improvement in mechanical flexibility (∼250% stretchable and 1000 bending cycles) and chemical stability (endure 100 °C and 3-11 pH). Based on such doped silk film (SF), a flexible, stretchable and fully bioabsorbable triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) is developed to harvest biomechanical energy in vitro or in vivo for intelligent wireless communication, for example, such TENG can be attached on the fingers to intelligently control the electrochromic function of rearview mirrors, in which the transmittance can be easily adjusted by changing contact force or area. This robust TENG shows great potential application in intelligent vehicle, smart home and health care systems. The lack of small-diameter vascular grafts (inner diameter less then 5 mm) to substitute autologous grafts in arterial bypass surgeries has a massive impact on the prognosis and progression of cardiovascular diseases, the leading cause of death globally. Decellularized arteries from different sources have been proposed as an alternative, but their poor mechanical performance and high collagen exposure, which promotes platelet and bacteria adhesion, limit their successful application. In this study, these limitations were surpassed for decellularized umbilical cord arteries through the coating of their lumen with graphene oxide (GO). Placental and umbilical cord arteries were decellularized and perfused with a suspension of GO (C/O ratio 21) with ∼1.5 μm lateral size. A homogeneous GO coating that completely covered the collagen fibers was obtained for both arteries, with improvement of mechanical properties being achieved for umbilical cord decellularized arteries. GO coating increased the maximum force in 27%, the burst pressure in 29%, the strain in 25%, and the compliance in 10%, compared to umbilical cord decellularized arteries.
