5% vs 71%; P = .023) in patients ultimately diagnosed with infection. Isoxazole 9 LIMITATIONS This study was conducted at a single institution, thereby restricting its broad applicability. The lack of a validated criterion standard to diagnose infection also limits interpretation of the results. CONCLUSION Tissue culture and histopathology often yield discordant results. Dermatologists should recognize specific limitations, yet high clinical utility in special circumstances, of tests when approaching cases of suspected infection. With the rapid advancement of technology and the necessity of processing large amounts of data, biomedical Named Entity Recognition (NER) has become an essential technique for information extraction in the biomedical field. NER, which is a sequence-labeling task, has been performed using various traditional techniques including dictionary-, rule-, machine learning-, and deep learning-based methods. However, as existing biomedical NER models are insufficient to handle new and unseen entity types from the growing biomedical data, the development of more effective and accurate biomedical NER models is being widely researched. Among biomedical NER models utilizing deep learning approaches, there have been only a few studies involving the design of high-level features in the embedding layer. In this regard, herein, we propose a deep learning NER model that effectively represents biomedical word tokens through the design of a combinatorial feature embedding. The proposed model is based on Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (bi-LSTM) with Conditional Random Field (CRF) and enhanced by integrating two different character-level representations extracted from a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and bi-LSTM. Additionally, an attention mechanism is applied to the model to focus on the relevant tokens in the sentence, which alleviates the long-term dependency problem of the LSTM model and allows effective recognition of entities. The proposed model was evaluated on two benchmark datasets, the JNLPBA and NCBI-Disease, and a comparative analysis with the existing models is performed. The proposed model achieved a relatively higher performance with an F1-score of 86.93% in case of NCBI-Disease, and a competitive performance for the JNLPBA with an F1-score of 75.31%. How accurate are individuals in judging the originality of their own ideas? Most metacognitive research has focused on well-defined tasks, such as learning, memory, and problem solving, providing limited insight into ill-defined tasks. The present study introduces a novel metacognitive self-judgment of originality, defined as assessments of the uniqueness of an idea in a given context. In three experiments, we examined the reliability, potential biases, and factors affecting originality judgments. Using an ideation task, designed to assess the ability to generate multiple divergent ideas, we show that people accurately acknowledge the serial order effect-judging later ideas as more original than earlier ideas. However, they systematically underestimate their ideas' originality. We employed a manipulation for affecting actual originality level, which did not affect originality judgments, and another one designed to affect originality judgments, which did not affect actual originality performance. This double dissociation between judgments and performance calls for future research to expose additional factors underlying originality judgments. V.Scientific progress in recent years has significantly unraveled several unique structural and functional aspects of the plasmodesmata (PD), such as demonstrating the presence of detergent-insoluble membrane microdomains enriched in sterols and sphingolipids. A recent study now shows that one of the sphingolipids, t180 phytoshinganine, binds to PD localizing protein 5 (PDLP5) and increases retention of PDLP5 at PD, which is known to be associated with reduced PD permeability. The dynamic interaction between lipids and PD-associated proteins assemble yet another piece of the PD puzzle. Individuals with sub-threshold psychotic symptoms (STPS) are considered at clinical high risk for psychosis (CHR). Imaging studies comparing CHR and patients shortly after a first episode of psychosis (FEP) support progressive cortical thinning by illness stage. However, at least 30% of FEP patients deny pre-onset STPS, suggesting no history of CHR. This calls into question the generalizability of previous imaging findings. To better understand the physiology of early psychosis symptomology, we investigated the relationship between pre-onset STPS and cortical thickness (CT) among FEP patients, examining regional CT and structural covariance (SC). Patients (N = 93) were recruited from PEPP-Montreal, a FEP clinic at the Douglas Mental Health University Institute. The Circumstances of Onset and Relapse Schedule was administered to retrospectively identify patients who recalled at least one of nine expert-selected STPS prior to their FEP (STPS+, N = 67) and to identify those who did not (STPS-, N = 26). Age and sompared to STPS- patients. Our results revealed patterns of SC that differentiated patient subgroups and patterns of cortical thinning unique to STPS- patients. Our study demonstrates that the early course of sub-threshold psychotic symptoms holds significance in predicting patterns of CT during FEP. The endocrine system plays an essential role in communication between various organs of the body to maintain homeostasis. Both substance use disorders (SUDs) and non-substance abuse disrupt this system and lead to hormonal dysregulations. Here, we focus on the comparison between the function of the endocrine system in gambling disorders and alcohol addiction to understand the commonalities and differences in their neurobiological and psychological underpinnings. We review human research to compare findings on gambling addiction and alcohol dependence pertaining to the dynamic interplay between testosterone and cortisol. Understanding and classifying similarities in hormonal responses between behavioural addiction and SUDs may facilitate development of treatments and therapeutic interventions across different types of addictive disorders, while describing differences may shed light on therapeutic interventions for specific disorders. Although research on gambling addiction is in its infancy, such evaluation may still have a positive effect for addiction research, thereby stimulating discovery of "crossover" pharmacotherapies with benefits for both SUDs and nonsubstance addictions.
