Propolis could represent an alternative therapeutic agent for targeting multidrug-resistant bacteria due to its antimicrobial potential. The effect of Brazilian green propolis (BGP) aqueous extract (AqExt) was evaluated on eight multidrug-resistant clinical strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, as well as on one reference strain for each bacterial species. The minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) was determined and optimal concentrations were further evaluated in comparison with 0.12% chlorhexidine. The natural extract was chemically characterized by HPLC-DAD analysis. The MBC values ranged between 3.12 and 27.5 mg ml-1. Analysis of bacterial metabolic activity after treatment for 5 min with BGP-AqExt revealed a strong antimicrobial potential, similar to chlorhexidine. The extract comprised several active compounds including quercetin, gallic acid, caffeic and p-coumaric acid, drupani, galangin, and artepillin C. Altogether, the findings suggest that BGP-AqExt is fast and effective against multidrug-resistant strains of K. pneumoniae and P. aeruginosa in planktonic cultures and biofilms.The isotopic compositions of oxygen (δ18O) and hydrogen (δ2H) of precipitation were determined from three different locations in the western Niger Delta (Warri, Ughelli and Abraka) between 2014 and 2015. 18O and 2H in wet season precipitation were more depleted compared to the dry season. Similarly, d-excess computed for wet season precipitation is lower than that for the dry season. The δ18O and δ2H variations in precipitation suggest the effect of the convective system and north-easterly and south-westerly trade winds. The decrease in δ18O and δ2H was also observed in precipitation data of a continuous rain event of two successive days. The local meteoric water lines estimated for Warri, Ughelli and Abraka were δ2H = 8.8 δ18O + 9.1 ‰ (R2 = 0.93), δ2H = 6.9 δ18O + 10.7 ‰ (R2 = 0.98) and δ2H = 7.9 δ18O + 11.3 ‰ (R2 = 0.87), respectively. The Niger Delta regional meteoric water line of δ2H = 7.7 δ18O + 10.2 ‰ (R2 = 0.91) was derived from the monthly average from the three locations. The provided local meteoric water line for the Niger Delta from unweighted stable isotopic data represents a baseline for regional water resources studies.

Seven electronic databases were searched from their inception to May 2020. The methodological quality of the 14 included studies was assessed by PEDro scale. Quality of evidence was assessed using GRADE. Moderate evidence on the disability questionnaire score (SMD, 0.52; 95% CI, 0.28 to 0.77; P less then 0.001) and pain score (SMD, 0.61; 95% CI, 0.36 to 0.85; P less then 0.001) of the custom-made orthotics for chronic LBP compared with no orthotics/insoles intervention was found. Meta-analysis results also showed moderate evidence on the disability questionnaire score (SMD, 0.44; 95% CI, 0.05 to 0.82; P =0.03) in patients who wore unstable shoes compared with regular shoes. Pain and life quality scores showed low-quality evidence of unstable shoes for chronic LBP. Custom-made orthotics and unstable shoes can be recommended to patients as a management option of chronic LBP.Previous evidences have indicated that granulosa cells play a critical role in follicular growth. p97 inhibitor Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)-induced oxidative stress has been associated with ovarian granulosa cell apoptosis and ovarian function. Recently, a study highlighted the protective role of morroniside against H2O2-induced damage. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of morroniside on H2O2-stimulated rat ovarian granulosa cells and its underlying molecular mechanisms. Our results showed that H2O2 treatment suppressed cell survival and increased apoptosis in rat granulosa cells, while treatment with morroniside markedly increased H2O2-induced granulosa cell survival in a dose-dependent manner (0, 10, 50 and 100 µM). Moreover, treatment with 50 µM morroniside impeded H2O2-induced cell apoptosis. An elevation in intracellular ROS, MDA, SOD, GSH-Px, and CAT level was observed in H2O2-induced granulosa cells; however, this effect was abrogated by morroniside treatment. Further studies suggested that administration of morroniside inhibited H2O2-induced granulosa cell apoptosis and caspase-3 activity.
