Patients with nasal obstruction due to deviated nasal septum (DNS) often have allergic rhinitis (AR) as contributing factor. When optimal medical therapy for AR fails, septoplasty alone may not adequately treat nasal obstruction. Therefore, with bilateral inferior turbinate hypertrophy representing long-standing AR, adding bilateral inferior turbinoplasty (BIT) to septoplasty might be beneficial.

To assess whether septoplasty with/without BIT alleviates nasal obstruction in the above patient cohort and whether adding BIT to septoplasty brings significant benefit.

In this interventional, prospective study, patients with nasal obstruction due to DNS and persistent, moderate-severe AR refractory to optimal medication were randomly allocated into group A (septoplasty alone) and group B (septoplasty with BIT). Nasal Obstruction and Symptom Evaluation (NOSE) score, along with Subjective Performance parameters (days-off/month; number of outdoor visits/month; overall satisfaction score [OSS]) were used to assesective Performance parameters during follow-up, except for OSS at the third month.
Septoplasty with/without BIT is helpful in treating patients with DNS and refractory AR. However, although adding BIT brings significant benefit in decreasing nasal obstruction, it does not significantly improve the Subjective Performance parameters during follow-up, except for OSS at the third month.Microwave radiation has the ability to heat a material with dielectric properties. Material absorbs microwave energy and then converts it into heat, which gives the possibility of a wide use of microwaves in many industry sectors or agricultural sciences. Microwaves are especially widely used in food industry. The main objective of this paper is to present an overview of recent development regarding microwave applications in food industry. Many techniques in food processing (pasteurization, sterilization, drying, thawing, blanching and stunning) are assisted by microwave energy. It should be mentioned also the use of microwaves in nutrients and nutraceuticals production. Waste generation is an integral part of food production. Microwaves have also application in wastes management. The results of experiments, factors affecting heating and their practical application have been discussed. Many cases have been compared with conventional process methods. The use of microwaves shows many advantages. The most important aspect is shortening the time of the thermal process (even by 50%) and reducing the costs of the operation. In addition, it allows to increase the efficiency of processes while maintaining high quality. The examples of microwave applications given in the article are environmentally- friendly because the conditions of thermal processing allow for reducing the use of solvents and the amount of sewage by decreasing the demand for water. It is anticipated that microwaves will become increasingly popular, with the development of new microwave technologies solving many problems in the future. Objective To quantify the potential population-wide costs, number of individuals reached, and impact on obesity of five effective interventions to reduce children's television viewing if implemented nationally. Study Design Utilizing evidence from systematic reviews, the Childhood Obesity Intervention Cost Effectiveness Study (CHOICES) microsimulation model estimated the cost, population reach, and impact on childhood obesity from 2020 to 2030 of five hypothetical policy strategies to reduce the negative impact of children's TV exposure (1) eliminating the tax deductibility of food and beverage advertising; (2) targeting TV reduction during home visiting programs; (3) motivational interviewing to reduce home television time at Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) clinic visits; (4) adoption of a television-reduction curriculum in child care; and (5) limiting noneducational television in licensed child care settings. Results Eliminating the tax deductibility of food advertising could reach the most children [106 million, 95% uncertainty interval (UI) 105-107 million], prevent the most cases of obesity (78,700, 95% UI 30,200-130,000), and save more in health care costs than it costs to implement. Strategies targeting young children in child care and WIC also cost little to implement (between $0.19 and $32.73 per child reached), and, although reaching fewer children because of the restricted age range, were estimated to prevent between 25,500 (95% UI 4600-59,300) and 35,400 (95% UI 13,200-62,100) cases of obesity. Home visiting to reduce television viewing had high costs and a low reach. Conclusions Interventions to reduce television exposure across a range of settings, if implemented widely, could help prevent childhood obesity in the population at relatively low cost.
Supine position reduces nasal patency compared with that in the sitting position; however, data on the effects of prone position on nasal patency is lacking.

We assessed the nasal patency of 30 healthy individuals without upper respiratory tract disorders by using visual analog scale (VAS) score and acoustic rhinometry in 7 positions sitting; frontal, right, and left supine; and frontal, right, and left prone.

According to the VAS scores, compared with that in the sitting position, both the supine and prone positions significantly increased subjective nasal obstruction (
< .001). The prone position had a more significant effect than did the supine position (
= .017). The results of minimal cross-sectional area measured through acoustic rhinometry demonstrated that both the supine and prone positions reduced the nasal patency significantly, but without significant differences between the effects of prone and supine positions (
= .794).

This is the first study to elucidate that the prone position can significantly reduce the nasal patency in healthy individuals through subjective and objective assessments.

IV.Background This study aimed at understanding the trend in extracellular fluid (ECF) change and estimating the efficacy of the early complex decongestive therapy (CDT) program in terms of prevalence of lower limb lymphedema, as well as at identifying the quality of life (QoL) associated with response to CDT after gynecological cancer therapy. Methods and Results Thirty-one patients undergoing gynecological cancer treatment were enrolled and randomly assigned to the CDT and control groups. In the CDT group, CDT was started within 2 weeks after surgery for 30 minutes a day, for 2 weeks (5 days per week). check details The patients' QoL was assessed through the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality-of-Life Questionnaire; version 3. Inbody S10® (Biospace, Seoul, South Korea) was used to calculate the ECF. The assessment was performed at pre- and post-surgery and at 3, 6, and 12 months after surgery. Statistically significant differences, in favor of the CDT group, were encountered at the 3-month follow-up visit, especially with respect to the QoL score.
