Socially sustainable development also implies promoting integration and preventing segregation. Social capital is one important indicator to measure how socially sustainable an area is. This project aims to explore how social capital can be used as a conceptual tool in developing housing policy for social sustainability in Umeå Municipality. Methods The three sub-studies in this project combine quantitative and qualitative methods. Methods We analyzed cross-sectional data from the China Hainan Centenarian Cohort Study (CHCCS). The 15-item Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-15) and three-level EuroQol five-dimensions (EQ-5D-3L) were used to evaluate depression and HRQoL, respectively. Poor health states were defined as EQ-5D index less then 0.665. Based on their GDS-15 score, individuals were categorized into three stages of depression major depressive disorder (MDD; score ≥10), minor depressive disorder (MnDD; score between 6 and 9), and normal (score ≤ 5). Based on sex and comorbidity stratification, multivariable logistic regression was used to calculate the risk of poor health state in different levels of depression. Large-scale prospective studies are needed to corroborate our findings and provide more information about the causal inference and internal mechanisms of this association.Objectives The status of children with comorbid congenital anomalies (CAs) and their effects on related hospital resource utilization have been minimally investigated. We aimed to describe the congenital anomalies comorbidity status and their effects on hospital resource utilization (length of stay, cost) by pediatric patients. Setting This study was conducted in five tertiary care children's hospitals in Shanghai, China. Participants Data were obtained from the inpatients' electronic health records; diagnoses were recorded using International Classification of Disease, Ninth Revision codes. In total, 7,890 children were diagnosed with congenital anomalies (13.13%), which were either primary or secondary. Primary and secondary outcome measures The dependent variables were length of stay and cost. The independent variables were demographic and clinical characteristics and CA status. Results In total, 50.98% of the hospitalized patients had comorbid CA conditions. Medical+CA patients were associated with a longer LOS (β = 2.656, P less then 0.001), and CA+medical patients were associated with higher costs (β = 7.222, P less then 0.001). Cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, and genitourinary diseases were the top three comorbid diseases. The average LOS for the top three comorbid diseases was longest in the medical+CA group, followed by CA+medical group. Cardiovascular disease was the most frequent comorbidity (ranking 1 in the medical+CA group and 2 in the CA+medical group), and the cost of cardiovascular disease was highest in all groups. Conclusions A high prevalence of comorbid CA conditions was observed among pediatric inpatients in the sampled tertiary hospitals in China. Strategic planning should be improved to guide resource utilization for complex comorbid CA care.Objectives The worldwide SARS-COV2 pandemic has impacted the health of workers and companies. The aim is to quantify it according to sick leave. Methods Using ICD-9 codes, we analyzed Ibermutua records of all sick leaves during the first trimester of 2020, compared to during the same months of 2017, 2018, and 2019. We stratified the analysis by causes, patient sex, activity sectors, and regional data. All sick leaves were adjusted by the number of Ibermutua-affiliated persons in each period. Results In March 2020, there was an unprecedented (116%) increase in total sick leaves, mainly due to infectious and respiratory diseases. Men and women were equally affected. All activity sectors were impacted, with the highest increase (457%) observed among health-related workers, especially due to contagious disease. The incidences of sick leaves were heterogeneous among different regions. Cost-analysis of sick leaves during the first trimester of 2020 compared with in previous years showed 40.3% increment (mean 2,813 vs. 2,005 € per 100 affiliated workers). Conclusions The SARS-COV2 pandemic is having a huge impact on workers' health, as shown by data regarding sick leaves in March 2020. This is associated with greater economic burden for companies, both due to the cost associated with sick leaves and the losses in productivity due to confinement.
