We introduce a novel 3D sensing method for recovering a consistent, dense 3D shape of a dynamic, non-rigid object in water. The method reconstructs a complete (or fuller) 3D surface of the target object in a canonical frame (e.g., rest shape) as it freely deforms and moves between frames by estimating underwater 3D scene flow and using it to integrate per-frame depth estimates recovered from two near-infrared observations. The reconstructed shape is refined in the course of this global non-rigid shape recovery by leveraging both geometric and radiometric constraints. We implement our method with a single camera and a light source without the orthographic assumption on either by deriving a practical calibration method that estimates the point source position with respect to the camera. Our reconstruction method also accounts for scattering by water. We prototype a video-rate imaging system and show 3D shape reconstruction results on a number of real-world static, deformable, and dynamic objects and creatures in real-world water. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of the method in recovering complete shapes of complex, non-rigid objects in water, which opens new avenues of application for underwater 3D sensing in the sub-meter range.Understanding the immune response to Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) is crucial for disease prevention and vaccine development. We studied the antibody responses in 48 human MERS-CoV infection survivors who had variable disease severity in Saudi Arabia. MERS-CoV-specific neutralizing antibodies were detected for 6 years postinfection.Lactobacillus helveticus is a well characterized lactobacillus for dairy fermentations that is also found in malt whisky fermentations. The two environments contain considerable differences related to microbial growth, including the presence of different growth inhibitors and nutrients. The present study characterized L. helveticus strains originating from dairy fermentations (called milk strains hereafter) and malt whisky fermentations (called whisky strains hereafter) by in vitro phenotypic tests and comparative genomics. The whisky strains can tolerate ethanol more than the milk strains, whereas the milk strains can tolerate lysozyme and lactoferrin more than the whisky strains. Several plant-origin carbohydrates, including cellobiose, maltose, sucrose, fructooligosaccharide and salicin, were generally metabolized only by the whisky strains, whereas milk-derived carbohydrates, i.e. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/3-amino-9-ethylcarbazole.html lactose and galactose, were metabolized only by the milk strains. Milk fermentation properties also distinguished the two groups. The general genomic characteristics, including genomic size, number of coding sequences and average nucleotide identity values, differentiated the two groups. The observed differences in carbohydrate metabolic properties between the two groups correlated with the presence of intact specific enzymes in glycoside hydrolase (GH) families GH1, GH4, GH13, GH32 and GH65. Several GHs in the milk strains were inactive due to the presence of stop codon(s) in genes encoding the GHs, and the inactivation patterns of the genes encoding specific enzymes assigned to GH1 in the milk strains suggested a possible diversification manner of L. helveticus strains. The present study has demonstrated how L. helveticus strains have adapted to their habitats.During an investigation of the yeast communities associated with wild fruit shrubs in Dagestan (Caucasus, Russia), four fermenting ascospore-producing yeast strains were isolated from leaves of the Georgian honeysuckle (Lonicera iberica M. Bieb.) and from soil underneath this plant. Phylogenetic analyses based on concatenated sequences of the ITS region and D1/D2 domains of the large subunit rRNA gene and concatenated sequences of the ribosomal DNA cystron, RPB2 and TEF1 genes showed that the isolated strains represented a new species of the genus Zygotorulaspora. The new species was placed in the basal position to other species of the clade and close to Zygotorulaspora mrakii. Based on the results of phylogenetic analyses and the phenotypic characteristics of the four studied strains, a novel species is described, for which the name Zygotorulaspora dagestanica sp. nov. is proposed. The holotype is KBP Y-4591T, three metabolically inactive cryopreserved isotype cultures are DSM 100088, VKM Y-3060 and VKPM Y-4318. The MycoBank number is MB 838285.A novel Gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic, non-spore-forming and rod-shaped bacterial strain (KUDC3025T) was isolated from rhizospheric soil of Artemisia japonica subsp. littoricola collected from the Dokdo Islands, Republic of Korea and bacterial strain MYb239 was isolated from compost from Kiel, Germany. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences, multilocus genes (atpD, gyrB, infB and rpoB), and whole-genome sequences indicated that both strains belonged to the genus Serratia and were most closely related to Serratia rubidaea KCTC 2927T. The average nucleotide identity values based on blast and MUMmer, tetranucleotide usage pattern and genome-based digital DNA-DNA hybridization values were all below the 95.0 %/95.0 %/0.998/70 % cutoff points. The genome G+C content was 58.0 mol%. The cellular quinone content contained ubiquinone-8 and the major components in the fatty acid profile were C16 0, C17 0 cyclo and C14 0. The polar lipid profile included diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, four unknown amino lipids, two unknown phospholipids and an unknown lipid. Based on phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and genotypic data, strain KUDC3025T (DSM 106578T=CGMCC 1.18473T) and MYb239 represents a novel species, for which the name Serratia rhizosphaerae sp. nov. is proposed. Furthermore, strain KUDC3025T was able to suppress disease symptoms by priming the plant defence system components, including the salicylic acid and ethylene pathways, furthering our understanding of Serratia as potential plant growth promoting bacteria.Purpose Technological advancement in the treatment of cancer together with early detection and diagnosis have considerably improved the survival of breast cancer patients. On the other hand, the potential of patients developing side effects from cancer treatment are not negligible. Despite the progress that has been made in terms of early diagnosis, therapy, and survival, including improvements in the chemotherapeutic agents, radiation and molecular targeted therapies, cardiotoxicity of cancer therapy is still cause for concern. Radiation therapy for breast cancer is associated with increased risk of heart disease and myocardial infarction. Furthermore, the association of radiation therapy to chemotherapy is an important aspect to be considered in the development of cardiac disease, as this could play an additional role as a risk factor. Besides the heart effect, other side effects can be observed in the bone, ovary, uteri, and other organs. This paper aims to review the recent literature to present the current understanding of side effects associated with breast cancer treatment.
