This study investigated a new bioresource technology of recovering raw chemicals of sulfated polysaccharides (SPs) from the digested saline waste activated sludge (WASsaline) that naturally contained 3-30% (w/w) of SPs. Two bench-scale anaerobic digestion (AD) experiments were conducted under mesophilic and thermophilic conditions; the effectiveness of extracting SPs from digested WASsaline and the biochemical characteristics of SPs were examined. After 20-days of digestion, the results showed that approximately 54 - 58% of initial total SPs in WASsaline were recoverable, in which 38 - 48% in solid digestate and 10-15% in liquid supernatant). The extracted raw chemicals of SPs were proven to be of high purity (>80%) and demonstrating significant properties such as anti-inflammation, anti-oxidation, and anti-coagulation for potential pharmaceutical-like application.Different inoculum to slaughterhouse waste (SHW) ratios (Ino/SHW) influences the digester performance, substrate utilization, and methane yield through microbial shift and their metabolic syntrophy. Acetoclastic Methanosarcina (68-87%) was dominant in the exponential phase, overpowering the initial abundance of Methanosaeta (86% of methanogens) in the SHW digesters. Positive interactions among acetogenic and acetate-oxidizing species of Clostridium (11%) with Methanosarcina (84% of methanogens) improved the methanogenic activity (292 mL g-1 VSinitial d-1) and final VS utilization (90%) at the highest Ino/SHW loading. In contrast, significant improvement of methane yield (152% higher than the control) at the lowest Ino/SHW loading was attributed to strong syntrophy among Methanosaeta (24% of methanogens) and its exoelectrogenic partners, Bythopirellula (0.52%) and Mariniphaga (0.08%) and the acetogenic Cloacimonas (0.16%) and Longilinea (0.32%). These syntrophic interactions among the core microbiota induced major metabolic activities, including butanoate, glycine, serine and threonine, methane, propanoate, and pyruvate metabolism, and quorum sensing.Compost is a self-heating process for organic waste. Microbes are the main executors in composting process. However, due to low temperature in winter and low efficiency of composting, a lot of heat is lost in composting. In this study, taking-out and feed-batch composting method (TFC) can supplement nutrition and improve composting microenvironment. Compared with NC, the amount of carbohydrates, protein and fat decomposed by TFC increase by 56.8%, 237% and 122%, respectively, in the composting start-up period (0-100 h). Structure and function of microbial community have changed due to stimulation of cold-adapted consortium. In addition, this study shows that core bacteria stimulate cooperation among different bacteria in the organic components metabolism networks. Finally, based on the important role of cold-adapted consortium, the sustainable heating strategy of composting system is put forward, which converts organic wastes into released heat for daily heating and hot water preparation, leading role of cold-adapted consortium. In this review, for the first time, the conjugation of the major types of enzymes used in biorefineries and the membrane processes to develop different configurations of MBRs, was analyzedfor the production of biofuels, phytotherapics and food ingredients. In particular, the aim is to critically review all the works related to the application of MBR in biorefinery, highlighting the advantages and the main drawbacks which can interfere with the development of this system at industrial scale. Alternatives strategies to overcome main limits will be also described in the different application fields, such as the use of biofunctionalized magnetic nanoparticles associated with membrane processes for enzyme re-use and membrane cleaning or the membrane fouling control by the use of integrated membrane process associated with MBR.Nitrate is one of the most common water contaminants and has caused severe environmental problems. This work aimed to investigate the effects of integration of denitrifier with biochars on nitrate removal and understand the underlying mechanisms. The results showed that physiochemical properties of biochars varied according to different feedstocks, which influenced bacteria attachment and nitrate removal through adsorption. However, bacteria could colonize on biochars no matter biochars surface were favorable for bacteria attachment or not. Immobilization of denitrifier on biochars significantly improved nitrate removal efficiencies and reduced lag time. Underlying mechanisms investigation showed that the integration of denitrifier with biochars had synergetic effects on promoting nitrate removal, which improved not only the expression and activity of nitrate reductase, but also the electron transport system activity.Modified basalt fiber (MBF) is a sustainable material studied as novel wastewater treatment bio-carrier recently. This work studied the effects of calcium modification on the bacterial affinity of modified fiber (Ca-MBF), bacterial community, and nitrogen removal performance. Results showed that Ca-MBF with hydrophilic (62.66°) and positively-charged (7.80 mV) surface accelerated bacterial attachment. Volatile suspended solids on Ca-MBF (5.46 g VSS/g fiber) were increased by 2.61 times after modification, with high bacterial activity when bio-carriers were cultured in activated sludge. Extracellular polymeric substances on Ca-MBF was 4.35 times higher and consisted of more protein. Bio-nests with unique aerobic/anaerobic structure formed on the ultrafine carriers in bioreactor. Ca-MBF bioreactor exhibited total nitrogen removal efficiency above 72.2% and COD removal efficiency above 94.2% with more stable performance than unmodified carrier in long-term treatment using synthetic domestic wastewater.16S rRNA gene sequencing revealed enhanced abundance of nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria in Ca-MBF bio-nest.The present work was carried out to understand the occurrence and antimicrobial susceptibility of Campylobacter spp., in various samples in Northern of Morocco. For this purpose, a random sampling was undertaken from butcher shops, traditional markets, and slaughterhouse. First, the research of Campylobacter was performed according to the Moroccan standard NM ISO 10272-1 (2008). Second, the isolates were identified by biochemical tests and real time PCR. After the biochemical and molecular identification of suspected colonies, a disk diffusion method was executed to determine the sensitivity of Campylobacter spp. this website against 18 antibiotics. The results showed a moderate prevalence of Campylobacter species (130/466) recovered mainly on the Campylobacter blood base agar, where C. coli (108/130) were more prevalent comparable to C. jejuni (22/130) in poultry and cattle meat, raw milk, cloacal and surface swabs, and stool of patient suffering from diarrhea. The findings supported also the sensitivity of multiplex qPCR to detect Campylobacter strains compared to Moroccan standard NM ISO 10272-1 (2008).
