To compare the efficacy of trehalose-HA eye drops versus 0.1% hyaluronic acid for the treatment of dry eye.

This prospective, comparative, contralateral eye study included sixty eligible patients (mean age 44.13 ± 14.53years). Patients having a SPEED questionnaire score of 16 or above, objective scatter index (OSI) > 1 and non-invasive tear break up time (NIBUT) of 10s or less were included in the study. Eyes were randomized to receive 0.1% hyaluronic acid (HA) in one eye and trehalose-HA eye drops in the contralateral eye. At baseline, 1- and 3-month follow-ups, OSI, NIBUT, MG loss, tear meniscus height (TMH) and tear film osmolarity (TFO) were evaluated using non-invasive modalities RESULTS There was a statistically significant improvement in NIBUT, TMH, OSI, SPEED questionnaire score in the trehalose-HA compared to the 0.1% HA group at both 1- and 3-month visits (p < 0.05). In both the study groups, compared to the baseline, the mean values of TFO, MG loss, OSI and SPEED questionnaire score significantly reduced at 3months (p < 0.05). The mean values of NIBUT and tear meniscus height on the other hand showed a significant increase compared to the baseline values (p < 0.05). Both drugs were well tolerated by the study participants without any significant ocular side effects.

Phylogenetic analyses of LSU and ITS sequences showed that they belonged to the genus Rhodotorula of the order Sporidiobolales (subphylum Pucciniomycotina) and the closest known relative being R. kratochvilovae. The new species differed from R. kratochvilovae CBS 7436 (AF071436, AF444520) by nine nucleotide substitutions and one deletion (1.7 % sequence variation) in a 593 bp D1/D2 region, and by five nucleotide substitutions and three deletions (1.3 %) in a 592 bp ITS region, respectively. Several morphological and physiological differences were also observed between R. kratochvilovae and the strains obtained during this study. Our study examined prevalence of SAD symptoms in Latinx immigrants 18-29 presenting to primary care with correlates of acculturation, immigration, and legal status. SAD symptoms were measured using the PHQ-14, GAD-7 and PHQ-8. Moderate somatization (37%), anxiety (20%), and depression (25%) were common. Multivariable analysis found five immigration factors predicted a higher composite SAD score and the presence of each additional factor increased likelihood of a SAD score ≥ 20 (OR  1.7; 95% CI, 1.1 to 2.5). SAD scores increased in a dose-response fashion (8.3, 10.5, 14.8, 17.1, 21.7, 29.3) with the added presence of each factor. We hypothesize that navigated placement of stimulation electrodes yields superior potential quality for tcMEPs compared to the conventional 10-20 placement. We prospectively included patients undergoing elective cranial surgery with intraoperative monitoring of tcMEPs. In addition to electrode placement as per the 10-20 system, an electrode pair was placed at a location corresponding to the hand knob area of the primary motor cortex (M1) for every patient, localized by a navigation system during surgical setup. Twenty-five patients undergoing elective navigated surgery for intracranial tumors (n = 23; 92%) or vascular lesions (n = 2; 8%) under intraoperative monitoring of tcMEPs were included between June and August 2019 at our department. Stimulation and recording of tcMEPs was successful in every case for the navigated electrode pair, while stimulation by 10-20 electrodes did not yield baseline tcMEPs in two cases (8%) with anatomical displacement of the M1.
