Trehalose 6-phosphate (Tre6P) has a dual function as a signal and homeostatic regulator of sucrose levels in plants. In source leaves, Tre6P regulates the production of sucrose to balance supply with demand for sucrose from growing sink organs. As a signal of sucrose availability, Tre6P influences developmental decisions that will affect future demand for sucrose, such as flowering, embryogenesis, and shoot branching, and links the growth of sink organs to sucrose supply. This involves complex interactions with SUCROSE-NON-FERMENTING1-RELATED KINASE1 that are not yet fully understood. Tre6P synthase, the enzyme that makes Tre6P, plays a key role in the nexus between sucrose and Tre6P, operating in the phloem-loading zone of leaves and potentially generating systemic signals for source-sink coordination. Many plants have large and diverse families of Tre6P phosphatase enzymes that dephosphorylate Tre6P, some of which have noncatalytic functions in plant development.
The CentPillar stem (Stryker Orthopaedics), an anatomical short stem, was designed to match the proximal femoral canal shape in both patients with normal hips and those with developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). The long-term outcomes of the CentPillar stem was examined herein.
In total, 222 hips that underwent total hip arthroplasty using the CentPillar stem were analyzed. DDH was the main reason for surgery (79.3%). Implant survivorship was assessed using Kaplan-Meier analysis. For radiographic evaluation, stress shielding was assessed using the Engh classification. For functional evaluation, patients' ability to perform deep hip bending activities (sit on the floor, squat, and sit straight) was assessed.
During a median follow-up of 13.1 years, 2 stem revisions were performed (aseptic loosening and late hematogenous periprosthetic infection), and the overall cumulative implant survival rate was 99.0% at 15 years. In the radiographic evaluation, grade >3 stress shielding was found in only one hip. More than 80% of the patients were able to perform each of the three deep hip bending activities.

Good fixation at the proximal part of the femur was obtained, and the implant survival rate of the CentPillar stem was excellent during a long-term follow-up.Objective Maternal postpartum depression (PPD) may influence fathers' engagement in childrearing; however, empirical studies have been equivocal as to whether these effects emerge in a compensatory (i.e., higher paternal engagement) or spillover (i.e., lower paternal engagement) manner. This study evaluated fathers' gender role attitudes as a moderator that shapes the association between maternal PPD and fathers' engagement during infancy, and also examined relations between father engagement and children's subsequent behavior problems.Method In a prospective study of low-income, Mexican-origin families (N = 181 mothers and a subset of their partners, N = 92 fathers), maternal PPD symptoms and fathers' gender role attitudes were measured at 15-weeks postpartum, father engagement was measured at 21-weeks, and children's behavior problems were measured at 12 and 18 months.Results Higher maternal PPD symptoms were associated with lower father engagement and more child behavior problems when fathers endorsed more segregated gender role attitudes; however, this relation was not significant when fathers endorsed less segregated, more contemporary gender role attitudes. A mediational chain was evident, wherein the interaction of maternal PPD and fathers' gender role attitudes predicted paternal engagement, and lower paternal engagement subsequently predicted more child behavior problems at 12 months, which predicted more child behavior problems at 18 months.Conclusions Results suggest the effects of maternal PPD on children's behavior problems may operate via paternal engagement, which is affected by fathers' traditional gender role attitudes. The study highlights the importance of examining fathering and children's behavior using a cultural-contextual lens among underrepresented ethnic minority families.
Spontaneous central nervous system (CNS) infections in children are rare. Treatment involves surgical intervention and antibiotic therapy. We describe a single centre experience of managing this condition in South Wales.
We performed a retrospective review of surgically managed cases in our unit for patients under 18 years of age between 2008 and 2018. Data were collected regarding aetiology, location, microbiology examination, treatment and outcomes.

P. savastanoi includes four pathovars of woody hosts differentiated by a characteristic host range in olive, oleander, ash, and broom plants. However, isolates from dipladenia have not been ascribed to any particular lineage or P. savastanoi pathovar. Here we report that isolates from dipladenia represent a distinct, clonal lineage. First, dipladenia isolates display very similar plasmid profiles, including a plasmid encoding the iaaM gene for biosynthesis of indole-3-acetic acid. Second, multilocus sequence analysis and core genome single-nucleotide polymorphisms phylogenies showed a monophyletic origin for dipladenia isolates, which cluster with isolates from oleander (pathovar nerii) in a distinct clade well separated from other P. savastanoi strains. Metabolic profiling and cross-pathogenicity tests in olive, oleander, ash, broom, and dipladenia clearly distinguished dipladenia isolates from the four P.
