The research of the microbiological air quality of a building considered a human historical and cultural heritage site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization is fundamental for preventive conservation action, mainly because it identifies cultivable fungal species around the collections and suggests the appropriate treatment choice. This study investigated the air microbiological parameters inside the Nossa Senhora da Conceição Church and identified the population of airborne fungi. Sixty filamentous fungal isolates were detected with ten distinct taxa. The counts of colony forming units (CFUs) performed at 10 different points were in accordance with Brazilian legislation. In addition, the presence of two fungal species was detected colonizing artworks covered with gold leaves Cladosporium cladosporioides and Aspergillus versicolor. Air quality monitoring inside the church was in accordance with the required Brazilian legislation standards. The composition of the filamentous fungal community included the presence of human fungal pathogens; for this reason, the use of personal protective equipment was recommended during the restoration work. Thus, characterization of the air microbiological parameters helps to preserve not only the building's collection, but also the health of the faithful, conservators-restorers, tourists, and researchers. This paper focuses on an important issue of disease progression of COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) through processing COVID-19 cough sounds by proposing a fully-automated method. The new method is based on time-domain exploiting only phase 1 data which is always available for any cough events. The proposed approach generates plausible click sequences consist of clicks for various cough samples from covid-19 patients. The click sequence, which is extracted from the phase slope function of an input signal, is used to calculate inter-click intervals (ICIs), and thereby a scoring index (SI) is derived based on coefficient of variation(CV) of the extracted ICIs. Moreover, probability density function (pdf) of the output click sequence is obtained. The method does not need to adjust any parameters. The experimental results achieved from real-recorded COVID-19 cough data using the medically annotated Novel Coronavirus Cough Database (NoCoCoDa) reveal that the proposed time-domain method can be a very useful tool for automatic cough sound processing to determine the disease progression of coronavirus patients.Defective autophagy in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) in response to oxidative stress can lead to cellular apoptosis and plaque instability. Previous studies have revealed that the circadian clock system is involved in autophagic regulation and plaque progression. However, the mechanism by which circadian rhythmicity influences VSMC autophagy and plaque stability remains unclear. Our study described the circadian profiles in atheromatous plaques and verified the role of circadian misalignment in VSMC autophagy and apoptosis. We found that the mRNA expression levels of circadian locomotor output cycles protein kaput (CLOCK) and Beclin 1 were significantly decreased in unstable plaques compared with stable plaques. No significant differences were observed in other circadian rhythm genes. VSMCs treated with oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL, 80 μg/ml) exhibited abnormal circadian rhythmicity and impaired autophagy, as evidenced by consistent decreases in CLOCK and Beclin 1 expression, suggesting a correlation between CLOCK and autophagy. CLOCK protein expression was inhibited by ox-LDL, accompanied by defective autophagy and an increased apoptosis rates (P less then 0.05). Administration of rapamycin (10 nM) reversed the effect of ox-LDL on VSMC autophagy and apoptosis. Finally, CLOCK silencing led to a considerable decrease in autophagy. VSMCs with stable CLOCK silencing also showed an increased apoptosis rate. Menadione concentration In addition, gene silencing of CLOCK in VSMCs counteracted the effects of moderate rapamycin concentrations on autophagy and apoptosis. In conclusion, these findings suggested that the CLOCK-dependent rapamycin signaling pathway is a critical mediator in ox-LDL-induced VSMCs with defective autophagy that exacerbates plaque destabilization.
We describe herein an extremely rare case of intracardiac ectopic thymoma-only two pure cases have been reported to date-associated with myasthenia gravis, an infrequent complication of ectopic thymoma.
A 71-year-old woman with superior vena cava syndrome was found to have a large mass mainly located in the right atrium. Tumor resection under cardiopulmonary bypass was performed. The pathological diagnosis was type AB ectopic thymoma. The postoperative course was complicated by progressive respiratory failure, and she was diagnosed with myasthenic crisis based on clinical signs and the edrophonium test. The patient recovered and was weaned from prolonged mechanical ventilation after receiving intravenous immunoglobulin, and was subsequently discharged uneventfully.
This is the first report of myasthenic crisis due to intracardiac ectopic thymoma. Residual thymoma is a risk factor for the development of post-thymectomy myasthenia gravis, and long-term follow-up is required.

The constant release of pharmaceuticals, such as these, has the potential to affect aquatic microbial metabolism and alter biogeochemical cycling of carbon and nutrients. Here we advance the Tea Bag Index (TBI) for decomposition by using it in a series of contaminant exposure experiments testing how interactions between trimethoprim and EE2 affect aquatic microbial activity. The TBI is a citizen science tool used to test microbial activity by measuring the differential degradation of green and rooibos tea as proxies for respectively labile and recalcitrant litter decomposition. Exposure to either trimethoprim or EE2 decreased decomposition of green tea, suggesting additive effects upon microbial activity. Exposure to EE2 alone decreased rooibos tea decomposition. Consequently, trimethoprim and EE2 stabilized labile organic matter against microbial degradation and restricted decomposition.
