The undertreatment of cancer pain is a global issue although many international guidelines and various studies bloom to explore the approaches in pain management. However, there is no standard care for cancer pain in routine practices. To set up a standardized procedure for improving cancer pain management in Taiwan, the Good Pain Management (GPM) program is explored to provide treatments following the US National Cancer Care Network (NCCN) Adult Cancer Pain Guideline.

Patients diagnosed with moderate-to-severe cancer pain were eligible and randomized into the GPM or control arm and observed the first 48h to evaluate the effects of pain management between 2 arms. Pain control, adequacy of treatments, patient satisfaction, and quality of life (QoL) of eligible patients were analyzed. Ad hoc analyses based on the pain medication category were also conducted.

Fifty-one patients were enrolled, with 26 and 25 assigned to the GPM and control arms, respectively. Significant differences among the GPM and controT03155516).

Verruciform xanthoma (VX) is an uncommon benign epithelial lesion which mainly appears in inflamed oral epithelium. In this study, our aim was to present new cases of oral VX (OVX) in chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD) and review the literature.

We conducted a retrospective chart review of cGVHD patients (2012-2019) to reveal cases of OVX. The demographics, medical background, clinical presentation, treatment provided, and follow-up were obtained. Additionally, Medline was searched using the terms "graft-versus-host disease," "verruciform xanthoma," and "oral." Of the articles, the above-mentioned demographic and clinical features were retrieved.

The patient pool included 133 oral cGVHD patients. Three cGVHD patients (males, aged 15-49 years, post-hematologic malignancy) were diagnosed with OVX. All patients had oral mucosal lichenoid lesions, but not in close proximity to the VX lesion. selleck chemical Medline searches revealed 9 cases of OVX in cGVHD patients reported in the literature. Eleven of the 12 patienical features in order to consider OVX in the differential diagnosis of oral lesions in cGVHD patients.
Malnutrition is a frequently diagnosed condition in head and neck cancer (HNC) patients after radiation therapy (RTH). Malnutrition causes adipose tissue dysfunction associated with intensified lipolysis and disruption of the activity of mechanisms that protect adipose tissue against this process, which include the protective function of perilipin.

The purpose of this study was the evaluation of the predictive value of 13041A>G PLIN1 polymorphism in the development of malnutrition related to adipose tissue loss in a group of 80 patients with locally advanced HNC treated by means of radical radiation therapy.

After the completion of RTH, men with AA genotype had significantly lower fat mass (FM compared to men with G haplotype; FM 13.84 ± 6.36kg and 19.06 ± 6.30kg (p = 0.009). In consequence of RTH, the AA genotype carriers lost an average of 37.01% adipose tissue mass and patients with GA and GG genotypes lost 12.82 and 0.31% (p = 0.035), respectively. AA genotype was also associated with higher chance of ≥ 10%, ≥ 20% and ≥ 30% FM loss in the course of RTH (OR = 13.78; 5.78; 2.28).

The evaluation of such molecular factors as SNP 13041A>G may have higher predictive value in the development of malnutrition associated with severe loss of fat mass than the subjective scales, e.g., SGA and NRS-2002. The presence of AA genotype on men with HNC before RTH may facilitate earlier nutritional intervention and supportive treatment aimed at limiting or preventing body mass and fat mass loss during the applied treatment.

We explored relationships between patient-provider communication quality (PPCQ) and three quality of life (QOL) domains among self-identified rural cancer survivors social well-being, functional well-being, and physical well-being. We hypothesized that high PPCQ would be associated with greater social and functional well-being, but be less associated with physical well-being, due to different theoretical mechanisms.

All data were derived from the 2017-2018 Illinois Rural Cancer Assessment (IRCA). To measure PPCQ and QOL domains, we respectively used a dichotomous measure from the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey's Experience Cancer care tool (high, low/medium) and continuous measures from the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-General (FACT-G).

Our sample of 139 participants was largely female, non-Hispanic White, married, and economically advantaged. After adjusting for demographic and clinical variables, patients who reported high PPCQ exhibited greater social well-being (Std. β = 0.20, 95% CI 0. mechanisms, but may not be as associated with physical well-being due to multiple contextual factor rural survivors disproportionately face (e.g., limited healthcare access, economic hardship) and stronger associations with clinical factors.
The objectives are to explore the prevalence of DNR orders, the factors influencing them, and the association between DNR signing and health care utilization among advanced cancer patients.

This was a retrospective cohort study. Data from cancer decedents in three hospitals in China from January 2016 to December 2017 during their last hospitalization before death were obtained from the electronic medical records system.

In total, 427 cancer patients were included; 59.0% had a DNR order. Patients who had solid tumors, lived in urban areas, had more than one comorbidity, and had more than five symptoms were more likely to have DNR orders. The cut-off of the timing of obtaining a DNR order was 3days, as determined by the median number of days from the signing of a DNR order to patient death. Patients with early DNR orders (more than 3days before death) were less likely to be transferred to the intensive care unit and undergo cardiopulmonary resuscitation, tracheal intubation, and ventilation, while they were more likely to be given morphine and psychological support compared with those with late (within 3days before death) and no orders.
