Describing knowledge, attitudes and beliefs about leprosy amongst Medical Professionals in a nonendemic area (Parma Province, North-Western Italy).

A cross-sectional study was carried among a sample of Medical Professionals (MP; No. 242) during June and July 2019 as an on-line self-administered questionnaire including 21 true/false items about epidemiology, diagnosis, and clinical characteristics of leprosy. Effectors of better knowledge status (KS) and higher risk perception (RP) were assessed through calculation of respective multivariate odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (95%CI) in two logistic regression analysis models.

A total of 102 questionnaires were retrieved (participation rate 42.1%; 67.6% of respondents < 50 year-old). Of them, 10.8% had previously interacted with at least one leprosy case. Knowledge status (KS) was unsatisfying (59.7% correct answers), and also RP was relatively low, as 91.2% of them acknowledged leprosy as a severe disease, but only 42.2% identified leprosy as highly communicable. Knowledge gaps affected particularly understanding of epidemiology and non-dermatological issues. Moreover, 30.4% of respondents ignored that a treated leprosy case may remain in the community before disease eradication. The main effector of KS was having interacted with a leprosy case (OR 4.881 95%CI 1.245-36.905), while RP was negatively associated with a better KS (OR 0.094 95%CI 0.027-0.334), and working as general practitioner (OR 0.133 95%CI 0.031-0.562).

Opioid and cannabinoid systems have considerable roles in modulation of chronic pain as well as regulation reward circuit and addiction responses. This study investigated the effect of nitroglycerin (NTG)-induced migraine attack on the acquisition of morphine and cannabinoid-induced conditioned place preference (CPP) in male rats.

Adult male rats (230-250 gr) were used. Experimental groups were included (n=10) control, opioid receptor agonist morphine (10mg/kg), WIN55,212-2 (1mg/kg) as a cannabinoid receptor agonist, NTG + morphine (10mg/kg) and NTG + WIN55,212-2 (1mg/kg). Nitroglycerin (10 mg/kg) was used to induce migraine attack every other day for 9 days. After migraine induction, conditioning performance was assessed by CPP test. During conditioning days, morphine and WIN55,212-2 were injected subcutaneously and intraperitoneally, respectively. Anxiety and locomotor activity were evaluated using open field test (OFT).

According to data, conditioning score for morphine-treated rats was significantly decreased following NTG-induced migraine. However, NTG-induced migraine was able to increase the conditioning score in WIN55,212-2 as compared to control group. In OFT, there were no significant differences in locomotor activity and grooming behaviors between experimental groups. However, time spent in the center of OFT box was significantly decreased in NTG plus morphine-treated rats as compared to control. Moreover, rearing response in NTG-treated groups which received either morphine or WIN55,212-2 decreased as compared to control group.

Skin disorders are very common in children. Wide spectrum of skin disorders is seen among children. The spectrum of skin disorders seen in children vary from region to region.

The study is aimed to determine the pattern of skin disorders among children in Pediatric dermatology clinic of Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, Nigeria. Methods It was a descriptive cross-sectional study. Subjects were consecutively recruited. Using a semi-structured questionnaire, demographic history of the subjects and history of skin disorders were obtained from all the subjects and detailed physical examination was carried out with particular emphasis on skin lesion examination after obtaining an informed consent. Ethical clearance was obtained from Ethical committee of the hospital. Data obtained was analyzed using SPSS version 24.

A total of 338 subjects were recruited. One hundred and seventy-three (51.2%) were males and 165 (48.8%) were females. There were 35 specific types of skin disorders observed. Infections and infestations were the commonest category of skin disorders seen among 47% of the children followed by inflammatory skin disorders observed among 36.9% of the subjects. Tinea capitis was the commonest type of skin disorder observed among 15.5% of the subjects followed by atopic eczema (13.0%). Tinea capitis was significantly commoner among male children aged 6-10 years (p<0.01) and Miliaria was significantly commoner among children aged less than 2years (p=0.04).

The aim of this study was to explore the effects of nutritional knowledge on the dietary behavior of 700 undergraduate students of Kuwait University. Therefore, nutrition education programs and nutritional activities in classes should be recommended among students to promote healthy lifestyles.
