Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) has recently occupied a significant place in the surgical treatment of primary pleural empyema (PPE). Patients with anamnesis shorter than 4 weeks have a good chance of being cured only by VATS. As it is not easy to define precisely the beginning of the disease, it is difficult to say strictly to which period VATS method will be successful in PPE treatment.
The aim of this study was to determine the efficacy of the VATS method in the surgical treatment of primary pleural empyema.
The study included 50 patients with findings appropriate for PPE over a period of three years, in whom the VATS method was applied in the surgical treatment of pleural empyema.
The established total length of treatment was 13.56 ± 7.98 days and the length of hospital treatment after surgery was 9.90 ± 3.315. The duration of thoracic drainage was 8.06 ± 3.005. Treatment was completed by the primary procedure without additional interventions in 94% of patients. Based on the final outcome, all patients from the clinic were discharged as cured.

The aim of this study was to develop and assess the psychometric properties of the Electronic Fetal Monitoring Knowledge Scale (EFMKS), a self-report and short instrument measuring knowledge concerning Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM). Methods. The EFMKS was developed in a three-phase process by using an integrated mixed-methods approach that included literature reviews, professional focus groups, expert consultations and a psychometric survey evaluation. The psychometric evaluation was conducted by recruiting a sample of 128 professionals (midwives and doctors). Content validity, exploratory factor analysis, discriminant and construct validity, test-retest reliability and internal consistency were explored.
The expert panel determined that the content validity was satisfactory. The final 10-item scale consisted of three factors explaining 73% of the total variance in the data. Discriminant validity was satisfactory. Internal consistency reliability (α = 0.89) and test-retest reliability (0.85) were sati of health professionals and for identifying the areas of their knowledge gap. Based on study findings, an annual multi-professional CTG training is necessary for all intrapartum staff and in particular for the midwives and doctors with shorter clinical experience in the labor ward.
Grayscale ultrasound (US) is the most common imaging modality for the assessment of thyroid nodules.
This research aimed to assess the value of using the elasticity index (EI), obtained using shear wave elastography (SWE), to discriminate between malignant and benign thyroid nodules.
A total of 86 patients (94 distinct thyroid nodules) were operated on at Vietnam National Cancer Hospital from June 2018 to June 2019. Comparisons of the grayscale ultrasound (US) findings and the EI values between the benign and malignant groups were performed using the Chi-square test and Student's
-test, respectively. The discrimination abilities of EI were determined through receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, with the computation of optimal cut-off points.
The EI values of the benign and malignant groups were 37.6 ± 26.1 kPa and 105.4 ± 48.8 kPa, respectively. The area under the ROC curve (AUROC) value for discrimination between groups based on EI values was 0.889 when using an optimal cut-off point of 74.5 kPa, which resulted in a sensitivity of 74.3% and a specificity of 90%. Logistic multivariate regression analysis found that EI and microcalcification were significant factors for the discrimination between groups, with an odds ratio (OR) 1.487 [95% confidence interval (95% CI) 1.124-1.968, p = 0.005] and OR 12.119 (95% CI 2.031-72.323, p = 0.006), respectively. Combining grayscale US imaging with SWE can increase the specificity of the diagnosis but does not increase the accuracy.
SWE can be helpful for predicting the malignancy of thyroid nodules, although the accuracy of this method is only moderate.

Health chatbots are rising in popularity and capability for fighting the novel SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus (COVID-19).
This study aims to review the current literature on COVID-19 related chatbots in healthcare, identify and characterize these emerging technologies and their applications for combating COVID-19, and describe related challenges.
The authors conducted a scoping review of peer-reviewed literature on COVID-19, guided by the Arksey and O'Malley framework. PubMed/MEDLINE and Google Scholar were searched over a period between January and September 2020 by using the keywords "COVID* chatbot", "virtual assistant", "AI enabled platform COVID" and associated synonyms. mTOR inhibitor therapy Relevant studies' references were checked for further articles. The content of these studies was screened and thematically analyzed by the two authors.
Out of 543 articles initially identified, 9 were eligible for inclusion. Studies describing chatbots' development and architecture (n=6) were the most common, and only 3 empirical studies on the user experience were identified.
