Clinicopathologic Characteristics of Microsatellite Instable Abdominal Carcinomas Revisited: Important Need for Standardization.
The present study investigated the functional and anatomical outcomes of idiopathic chronic macular hole (MH) surgery with different surgical approaches related to the chronicity and diameter of the MH. A comparative retrospective study between three groups of patients who underwent vitrectomy for long-duration MH (mean 13.5 months) was conducted. In the first group of patients (G1 or IP), the internal limiting membrane (ILM) was systematically peeled; in the second group (G2 or IPEP), the ILM and epiretinal membrane (ERM) were peeled; and in the third group (G3 or IF), patients underwent inverted ILM flap technique surgery. Pre- and post-operative best corrected visual acuities (pre- and post-op BCVA) were studied. Macular optical coherence tomography (OCT) scans were performed to measure the MH minimum and maximum diameter pre-operatively, as well as to confirm its post-op closure and evaluate the integrity of the ellipsoid zone (EZ). Fifty eyes of 48 patients (33 female and 15 male) were retrospectively evaluated. SU11274 nmr MH closure rate was 100% in IP group, 66.7% in IPEP, and 95.2% in IF group. All three groups had a statistically significant improvement of BCVA. EZ post-op was restored in 88.2% of the cases from G1, 41.6% from G2, and 23.8% from G3. No statistically significant relationship between the smaller or larger MH diameter and the visual acuity improvement was found. Patients with chronic MH and ERM have worse functional and anatomical outcomes after surgery. Treatment of chronic MHs without ERM results in a better closure rate with either an inverted ILM flap approach or systematic ILM peel.The subject-matter of the article is the ductile fracture of materials-A phenomenon occurring in numerous metal forming processes. In order to prognosticate the possibility of a fracture, damage criteria are employed. Their effectiveness, however, depends on the accurate determination of the critical values of damage. These values are obtained through calibrating tests, where the stress state has to be as similar to the actual process as possible. The currently employed calibrating tests do not enable one to determine the limit values of the damage function when the Mannesmann effect occurs. Therefore it was not possible to effectively prognosticate the material fracture in the processes of cross- and skew-rolling. A new calibrating test, based on rotational compression of a cylindrical sample, in which the fractures are caused by the Mannesmann effect, was developed at the Lublin University of Technology. This test was discussed in the article, with a particular focus on the stress and strain state in the sample. A practical use of the test was presented on the example of C45 grade steel, formed in the temperature equal 1150 °C. In the research ten material damage criteria were adopted.In this paper, analytical results are compared for the newly developed steels, Fe-Mn-Al-C (X105) and Fe-Mn-Al-Nb-Ti-C (X98), after being hot-rolled and also after undergoing thermomechanical treatment in a Gleeble simulator. These steels have a relatively low density (~6.68 g/cm3) and a content of approx. 11% aluminum. The multistage compression of axisymmetric samples constituting a simulation of the real technological process and hot-rolling performed on a semi-industrial line were carried out using three cooling variants in water, in air, and after isothermal heating and cooling in water. The temperature at the end of the thermomechanical treatment for all variants was 850 °C. On the basis of detailed structural studies, it was found that the main mechanism for removing the effects of the strain hardening that occurred during the four-stage compression involved the dynamic recrystallization occurring in the first and second stages, the hot formability and dynamic recovery in successive stages of deformation, and the static and/or metadynamic recrystallization that occurred at intervals between individual deformations, as well as after the last deformation during isothermal heating. Analysis of the phase composition and structure allowed us to conclude that the tested steels have an austenitic-ferritic structure with carbide precipitates. Research using scanning and transmission electron microscopy identified κ-(Fe, Mn)3AlC and M7C3 carbides in both the analyzed steels. In addition, complex carbides based on Nb and Ti were identified in X98 steel; (Ti, Nb)C carbides occurred in the entire volume of the material. Slow cooling after thermomechanical treatment influenced the formation of larger κ-carbides at the border of the austenite and ferrite grains than in the case of rapid cooling. The size and morphology of the carbides found in the examined steels was varied. Back-scattered electron diffraction studies showed that wide-angle boundaries dominated in these steels.To study the seismic performance of embedded polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe confined reinforced high-strength concrete (PVC-RHC) columns, five specimens are designed for cyclic loading test, which include three PVC-RHC column specimens, an embedded circle steel tube confined reinforced high-strength concrete (CST-RHC) column specimen, and a reinforced high-strength concrete (RHC) column specimen. The failure mechanism and morphology are revealed by experiments. The influences of PVC pipe diameter, axial compression ratio, and concrete strength on seismic performance indexes are analyzed. The research results indicate thhe following all specimens displayed shear baroclinic failure. Compared with RHC specimens, the hysteretic curves of the PVC-RHC specimen and CST-RHC specimen were fuller; furthermore, their energy dissipation capacity, deformation, and ductility were more beneficial. With the increase of the diameter-length ratio and axial pressure, the energy dissipation capacity and deformation capacity of PVC-RHC specimens decreased. The shear bearing capacity of the PVC-RHC specimen calculated with "concrete structure design code" (GB 50010-2010) was smaller than the test results by 25%, showing an excessive safety margin. Thus, according to the failure mechanism of the PVC-RHC specimen, a new calculation formula of shear bearing capacity is deduced, which is in good agreement with the experimental results.
