Porcine parvovirus 1 (PPV1) is a major cause of reproductive failure in pigs. To date, six additional porcine parvoviruses (PPV2-PPV7) have been identified. In this study, we detected 11 PPV1 strains, five PPV3 strains, three PPV4 strains, six PPV5 strains, five PPV6 strains, and one PPV7 strain in Korean wild boars. PPV1, -3, and -5, and PPV6 from Korean wild boars harbor conserved motifs within the Ca2+ binding loop and the catalytic center of the PLA1 motif. Intra-species recombination among PPV7 strains was also identified. Genetic characterization revealed that PPV1 from Korean wild boars may be similar to virulent PPV strains.
To investigate the clinical efficacy of a novel vacuum suction ureteroscopic approach in the treatment of upper ureteral calculi and to compare it with traditional rigid and flexible ureteroscopic approaches.
A total of 160 patients with impacted upper ureteral calculi were included in this study. 50 patients underwent rigid ureteroscopic lithotripsy, 54 patients underwent flexible ureteroscopic lithotripsy, and 56 patients underwent vacuum suction ureteroscopic lithotripsy. The operative time, length of hospitalization, stone-free rate, the incidence of postoperative complications, and total treatment cost were compared among the three groups. Subgroup analysis was performed based on the stone diameter over and below 1.5 cm.
All operations were performed successfully, and there were no cases converted to open surgery. Compared with the other 2 groups, the vacuum suction ureteroscopy group had a higher stone-free rate at 3-5 days (90.0% vs. 61.9% vs. 55.6%, P < 0.05) and 1 month (96.4% vs. 77.7% vs. 74.0%, P < 0.05) postoperatively. In subgroup analysis, the stone-free rate of the vacuum suction ureteroscopy group was significantly higher when the stone diameter was > 1.5 cm at 1 month postoperatively (P < 0.05) compared with that in the other 2 groups; however, there were no differences in postoperative complications. The novel vacuum suction ureteroscopic lithotripsy has significantly improved the stone-free rate especially in complicated cases, compared with that in rigid and flexible approaches; however, the complication and cost were not increased.

Uncemented stem migration analysis by EBRA-FCA (Einzel-Bild-Roentgen Analyse, Femoral Component Analysis) has been seen to be a good predictive indicator for early implant failure. In this study, we investigated the migration behavior of a cementless press-fit stem after two years follow-up. Stem type and postoperative gap between collar and femur were evaluated as a risk factor.
Applying a retrospective study design, we reviewed all consecutive patients who between 2013 and 2017 received a cementless press-fit Corail stem (DePuy Orthopaedics Inc., Warsaw, IN, USA) at our Department. We reviewed medical histories and performed radiological measurements using EBRA-FCA software.
A total of 109 stems in 105 patients (female 60; male 45) fulfilled our inclusion criteria. Mean age at surgery was 67.8 (range, 21.6-90.5) years. EBRA migration analysis showed a mean subsidence of 1.8mm (range, 0.0-12.1) at final follow-up. At 18months mean subsidence of collared stems was significantly lower than in the collarless group [1.3mm (range, 0.0-7.6) vs. 3.2mm (range, 0.5-10.7), p = 0.0104]. Collared stems resting on the femoral cut presented a tendency to less subsidence than did collared stems showing a postoperative gap between collar and femur (1.3 vs. 2.0mm) without finding statistical significance (p > 0.05).
Low subsidence and the migration pattern of the cementless press-fit stem may predict a good long-term result. Collared stems investigated in our study provide good stability and are able to prevent significant subsidence. MLN8237 mw The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between perceived school toilet quality, behaviour regarding toilet visits, and symptoms of bladder and bowel dysfunction (BBD). Pupils in Danish schools were invited to complete online questionnaires regarding toilet behaviour, perception of school toilet standards/quality, and symptoms of BBD. Teachers at the same schools were asked about the quality of the toilets. We recruited 19,577 children from 252 different schools. More than half of the children (50% boys and 60% girls) were dissatisfied with the toilet facilities. One-fourth of the children (28% of girls, 23% of boys) reported avoiding the use of school toilets. We found a strong correlation between being dissatisfied with school toilets, toilet avoidance, and symptoms of BBD.Conclusion The majority of Danish children are unhappy with their school toilet facilities. Symptoms of BBD are associated with subjective toilet dissatisfaction and toilet visit postponement. Because children spend a significant part of their day at school, access to satisfactory toilet facilities is of utmost importance for their well-being. What is Known • Bladder and bowel dysfunction is common in childhood with urinary incontinence, constipation, and faecal incontinence being cardinal symptoms. • Behaviour regarding toilet visits contributes to the aetiology, and we know that toilet avoidance can lead to abnormal bladder and bowel function. What is New • Most children are not satisfied with their school toilets, and many avoid toilet visits. • Dissatisfaction with the school toilets is related to toilet avoidance and bladder and bowel dysfunction in school children regardless of age and gender.
