The concept of open access journals was introduced with the aim to make the scientific articles accessible and visible to all. But a new threat called predatory journals has emerged targeting the young researchers of developing nations. These bogus journals mislead the authors as well as readers in various negative ways. Hence, we should recognize such journals and avoid becoming the prey.The pandemic of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has created paradoxically a good opportunity globally to conduct research in the field of health and social science, and a Lower Middle-Income Country (LMIC) like Nepal is not an exception in this regard. During this ongoing pandemic, the Ethical Review Board (ERB) of Nepal Health Research Council (NHRC) has received numerous research proposals regarding COVID-19. As its main responsibility is to ensure participants' safety, at the same time maintaining the scientific standard of research, the ERB has meticulously gone through all the proposals received so far. During this situation of a health emergency, the ERB of NHRC has had a different experience compared to the usual time. Its strength, weakness, opportunities, and threats have been like never before.Bauxite is an ore from which Aluminium is produced. We conclude that there is no evidence that bauxite or alumina exposure cause increase incidence of cancer but due to the small number of studies included in this review, we recommend more cohort studies to be done in future.Background Nutrition is believed to be very essential for socio economic development of the country and is an essential component of sustainable development goals. Malnutrition is a major public health problem in Nepal and is more common among under-five year children. Malnutrition among children is complex problem globally, affecting the physical, mental and social development. Objective To estimate the prevalence and explore the associated factors of malnutrition in study population. Method It was a community based cross-sectional study conducted among rural population of Nepal. Wards were selected by simple random sampling technique and household in each ward were selected by systemic random sampling. The mothers of 302 participants aged 12 to 59 months were interviewed for requisite information using pretested questionnaire and anthropometric measurements were taken using standard technique for each participant. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 16.0 was used for data analysis. Result The prevalence of underweight, stunting and wasting was 36.8%, 37.5%, and 14.6% respectively. We found statistical significant association between underweight and children in lower age group, larger family size, lower level of mother's education and illness in past one month. Factors that are significantly associated with stunting are children in lower age group, lower level of mother's education and illness in past one month and wasting is significantly associated with children in lower age group. Conclusion This study showed the prevalence of malnutrition is high in study population. Factors associated with malnutrition were child's age, family size, mother's education and illness in past one month.Background Suicide is an act of deliberately killing oneself. It is a global health problem and is the second leading cause of death in 15 to 29 years. Thus, studying nursing students' perception towards suicide attempters has paramount importance in understanding and addressing the existing gaps in healthcare delivery system. Objective To assess the nursing students' perception towards attempted suicide and to find out the association between perception and selected variables. Method A descriptive, cross sectional design was carried out to assess the nursing students' perception towards suicide attempters in Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences. The respondents were 193 nursing students. A structured questionnaire was used in order to collect data. Descriptive statistics including frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation were calculated to summarize the data and inferential statistics, Mann Whitney-U test was used for the association between perception and selected variables. An important problem that is often ignored is the question of reliability of observations made while using a particular assay on cell lines, especially MTT Assay. Recent studies have questioned its reliability by highlighting the diverse intracellular environmental factors that affect accuracy of MTT assay results. Objective To assess the inter-rater reliability of MTT assay while observing the differential effect of addition of fetal bovine serum to the culture medium on proliferation of U937 cell line using Intraclass correlation coefficient. Method U937 cell suspension prepared by the tutor to maintain uniformity of immortalized cell line was used. Four trainee investigators who participated in the study underwent rigorous training in pipetting and plating methods for four consecutive days prior to start of the experiment. Each trainee investigator followed the same protocol and all procedures were conducted simultaneously. At the end of the experiment, inter observer reliability was calculated. Result Interrater reliability calculated by using intra class correlation coefficient with two way mixed effect model was found to be poor (p = 0.173). For growth with 10% fetal bovine serum, inter-rater reliability was 0.258 for each item and 0.58 for the average of the triplicates, whereas for 0% fetal bovine serum it was 0.374 for each item and 0.70 for average of the values (p=0.104). Conclusion Though MTT assay is considered the gold standard test for assessment of cell proliferation and viability, the inter-rater reliability of this assay might be poor and needs further investigation.
