Methods A total of 55 women were matched with 55 men based on age, years of education, ethnicity, and fighting style. Cognition was assessed via the CNS Vital Signs computerized cognitive battery and supplemental measures. Structural brain scans, demographic data, and number of professional fights (NoPF) were also considered. The matched pairs were compared via analysis of covariance, accounting for total brain volume. Within-subject moderation models were utilized to assess the moderating effect of sex on the relationship between NoPF and brain volumes and cognitive performance. Results Men were observed to have poorer performance on measures of psychomotor speed when compared to women. On a series of analyses assessing the role of sex as a moderator of the relationship between NoPF and regional brain volumes/cognitive performance, a significant moderation effect was observed across multiple measures of cognitive functioning, such that men had poorer performance. Differences in numerous regional brain volumes were also observed, such that the relationship between NoPF and brain volumes was steeper among men. Conclusion Sex was observed to be an important moderator in the relationship between NoPF, aspects of cognitive functioning, and volumes of numerous brain regions, suggesting that sex differences in neuroanatomic and cognitive response to RHI deserve further attention.Background Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disease that can lead to impaired motor function and execution of activities of daily living (ADL). Since clinicians typically can only observe patients' symptoms during visits, prescribed medication schedules may not reflect the full range of symptoms experienced throughout the day. Therefore, objective tools are needed to provide comprehensive symptom data to optimize treatment. One such tool is the Parkinson's KinetiGraph® (PKG), a wearable sensor that measures motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease. Objective To build a mathematical model to determine if PKG data measuring Parkinson's patients' motor symptoms can predict patients' ADL impairment. Methods Thirty-four patients with PD wore the PKG device for 6 days while performing their ADL. Patients' PKG scores for bradykinesia and dyskinesia, as well as their responses to a questionnaire asking if their ADL-level had been impacted by various motor symptoms, were used to build a multiple regression model predicting the patients' Movement Disorder Society-Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (MDS-UPDRS) part II scores. Results Calculation of bradykinesia score response to medication showed that using a dosage response time of 30 min yielded a greater bradykinesia response than when the response time was set to 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, or 90 min. Methods In this cohort study, we performed the first large clinical exome sequencing (ES) study with phenotype correlation on 207 clinically well-characterized inherited myopathy-suspected patients from the Indian subcontinent with diverse ethnicities. Results Clinical-correlation driven definitive molecular diagnosis was established in 49% (101 cases; 95% CI, 42-56%) of patients with the major contributing pathogenicity in either of three genes, GNE (28%; GNE-myopathy), DYSF (25%; Dysferlinopathy), and CAPN3 (19%; Calpainopathy).
