The extensor hallucis longus originates from about the middle three fifths of the anterior surface of the fibula, medial to the origin of the extensor digitorum longus, and inserts into the distal phalanx of the great toe. The goal of this study was to examine the insertion of the extensor hallucis longus tendon and thus prepare its first classification in human fetuses.

Fifty spontaneously-aborted human fetuses (26 male, 24 female, 100 lower limbs), aged 18-38 weeks of gestation, were examined.

The classification comprised three types of extensor hallucis longus insertion. The most common was type I (68%), which was characterized by a single tendon that ends as an extensor hood inserting into the dorsal aspect of the base of the distal phalanx of the great toe. The second most frequent was type II (27%), which was characterized by two distal tendons the dominant one ends as an extensor hood inserting into the distal phalanx of the great toe, and the auxiliary inserts separately into the dorsal aspect of the proximal phalanx of the great toe, medial to the insertion of the extensor hallucis brevis tendon. Finally, type III (5%), the least frequent type, was characterized by two distal tendons the dominant one ends as an extensor hood inserting into the distal phalanx of the great toe, and the auxiliary connects to the tendon of the extensor hallucis brevis.

The article traces this history in the context of the political changes that occurred over six hundred and seventy-two years, giving emphasis to the history of Prague's anatomy departments, its leading anatomists and their discoveries, and historically important anatomical texts published or written in Prague. The article documents the significant contribution to anatomy made in the Czech lands, especially in the nineteenth century and during the calmer periods of the region's turbulent political history.
The use of the Pernkopf atlas of human anatomy in surgery presents ethical challenges due to the author's association with the Nazi regime and the potential depiction of victims of this regime. The most pronounced virus-inhibiting effect of compounds 10i and 11i was observed at an early stage of infection. These compounds were supposed to be capable of binding to viral hemagglutinin, which is an agreement with data on the effect of compounds 10i and 11i on the viral fusogenic activity as well as by molecular docking studies.We report here the synthesis and characterization of a dual 5-HT7 / 5-HT2 receptor antagonist 3-(4-Fluoro-phenyl)-2-isopropyl-2,4,5,6,7,8-hexahydro-1,2,6-triaza-azulene (4j). 4j is a high affinity 5-HT7 and 5-HT2A receptor ligand having a pKi = 8.1 at both receptors. It behaves as an antagonist in an in vitro functional assay for 5-HT2A and as an inverse agonist in an in vitro functional assay for 5-HT7. In a validated in vivo model for central 5-HT7 activity in rats, blockade of 5-carboxamidotryptamine (5-CT) induced hypothermia, 4j shows efficacy at low doses (ED50 = 0.05 mg/kg, p.o., 1 h) and maximal efficacy was observed at 0.3 mg/kg p.o. with a corresponding plasma concentration of ~27 ng/ml. In a validated in vivo model for central 5-HT2A activity, blockade of 2,5-dimethoxy-4-iodoamphetamine (DOI) induced head-twitches in mice, 4j shows efficacy at low doses with an ED50 = 0.3 mg/kg p.o. Tocilizumab solubility dmso Ex vivo receptor binding studies demonstrate that 4j occupied 5-HT2A receptor binding sites in the frontal cortex of the rat brain with an ED50 in good agreement with the ED50 value for central functional effect mediated by 5-HT2A receptor (ED50 = 0.8 mg/kg, p.o., 1 h).
