Cutaneous papillomas (CPs) and cutaneous squamous cell carcinomas (CSCCs) are usual epidermal tumours in dogs. CPs and CSCCs probably arise from the neoplastic transformation of the keratinocytes within the stem cell compartment, since these cells are the only keratinocytes that would reside long enough to accumulate the number of molecular alterations to drive the progression towards a tumour cell phenotype. However, the role of these cells in common epidermal tumours in dogs is still unknown. Thus, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the immunohistochemical expression pattern of p63 together with CK5, molecular markers of epidermal stem cells, on sections of tissue microarrays constructed from canine samples of CP and CSCC to investigate the contribution of stem cells in those canine tumours. p63/CK5 coexpression was retained in most basal and some suprabasal cells in CPs and CSCCs. In addition, increased coexpression of these molecules was observed in a group of CPs and CSCCs, as a result of a higher p63 expression. These results suggest that the coexpression of p63/CK5 may mark epidermal keratinocytes that possess self-renewal capacity rather than only stem cells, and suggest that transit amplifying cells, and even differentiated keratinocytes, may also contribute to the pathogenesis of epidermal tumours in dogs.Macrophages are pivotal in the initiation and development of atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases. Recent studies have reinforced the importance of mitochondria in metabolic and signaling pathways to maintain macrophage effector functions. In this review, we discuss the past and emerging roles of macrophage mitochondria metabolic diversity in atherosclerosis and the potential avenue as biomarker. Mitochondria can also communicate with other organelles such as the endoplasmic reticulum through mitochondria-associated membrane (MAM) or be secreted for paracrine actions. A better understanding and integration of how these metabolic and signaling processes are integrated and dictate macrophage effector functions in atherosclerosis may ultimately help the development of novel therapeutic approaches.
School closures and other public health responses have decreased the extent that children interact with mandated reporters and other professionals trained to detect child maltreatment.

To assess associations between the pandemic public health response and the number of allegations of child abuse or neglect.

This study analyzed monthly data from New York City of the number of child maltreatment allegations, stratified by reporter type (e.g., mandated reporter, education personnel, healthcare personnel), as well as the number of Child Protective Services (CPS) investigations warranting child welfare preventative services. SARIMA models were trained using data from January 2015 to February 2020 to predict expected values for March, April, and May 2020. Observed values were compared against predicted values at an alpha of .05.

The Ontario Incidence Study of Reported Child Abuse and Neglect (OIS) is the only source of province-wide statistics on families investigated by child welfare.

This paper presents key findings from the 2018 cycle of the OIS (OIS-2018) and highlights select policy and practice implications of these findings.

The OIS-2018 captured information directly from investigating child protection workers about children and families who were the subject of a child protection investigation sampled for inclusion in the study.

The OIS-2018 sample was drawn in three stages first, a representative sample of child welfare agencies in Ontario was selected, then cases were sampled over a three-month period within selected agencies, and, finally, investigations that met the study criteria were identified from the sampled cases. The data collected for the OIS-2018 were weighted in order to derive provincial, annual incidence estimates.

An estimated 158,476 child maltreatment-related investigations were conducted in Ontario in 2018. In the majority of investigations, there was no documented physical or emotional harm to the child. The overall incidence of investigations remains unchanged between 2008 and 2018. The only statistically significant difference during this time period is an increase in risk investigations between 2013 and 2018.

Today, Pakistan has the highest percentage of young people in its history, who can become champions of child rights through channelizing their energy. Voices for Children's Aspirations and Needs (VCAN) student society at the University of Lahore is one such student body, working to promote child rights and eliminate violence against children.

The study identifies factors contributing to young people's motivation to join VCAN student society working for children's rights and influence their participation in activities, along with attitudinal shift. The current study also attempts to find out effective mediums to engage youth in volunteering activities for the prevention of violence against children.

Sample (N = 40) was selected through purposive sampling from the VCAN Student Society at the University of Lahore.

The data were collected through a questionnaire developed by the researchers (α = 0.86). Collected data were analyzed by finding descriptive statistics (mean, percentage and frequency) and paired samplet-test using statistics software, SPSS, version 21.
