Despite recent guideline updates on peripheral artery disease (PAD) and critical limb ischemia (CLI) treatment, the optimal treatment for CLI is still being debated. As a result, care is inconsistent, with many CLI patients undergoing an amputation prior to what many consider to be mandatory consultation with an interdisciplinary specialty care team and a comprehensive imaging assessment. More importantly, quality imaging is critical in CLI patients with below-the-knee disease. Therefore, the CLI Global Society has put forth an interdisciplinary expert recommendation for superselective digital subtraction angiography (DSA) that includes the ankle and foot in properly indicated CLI patients to optimize limb salvage. A recommended imaging algorithm for CLI patients is included.To inhibit the formation of amyloid fibrils by human γd-crystallin (HGD), a series of four flavonoids (quercertin, rutin, morin and hesperetin) was tested. Only morin had demonstrated significant inhibition of HGD fibrillation. selleck compound Results from fluorimetric assay techniques (using thioflavin T and ANS), FTIR, circular dichroism and microscopic imaging (fluorescence microscopy and transmission electron microscopy) confirmed HGD fibrillation inhibition by morin. Sarma.Objectives The present study aimed to determine the association of total dietary phytochemical intake with generalized and abdominal obesity in children and adolescents. Material and methods This nationwide cross-sectional study was conducted in 4296 students aged 6-18 years. Dietary phytochemical index (DPI) was calculated as a percentage of daily energy derived from phytochemical-rich foods divided by total daily energy intake. Results The mean ± standard error of DPIs in the first, second, third and fourth quartiles were 12.70 ± 3.28, 20.36 ± 1.84, 27.52 ± 0.08 and 41.10 ± 0.26, respectively. Anthropometric measures including weight Z-score (-0.04 vs. 0.05, P = 0.023), body mass index (BMI) Z-score (-0.05 vs. 0.06, P = 0.013), waist circumference (WC) (65.80 cm vs. 66.95 cm P = 0.022), hip circumference (HC) (80.20 cm vs. 81.37 cm, P = 0.046), and neck circumference (NC) (30.06 cm vs. 30.45 cm, P = 0.031) were significantly lower among participants in the upper DPI quartile compared to those in the lower quartiles. In overweight and obese children, higher adjusted DPI scores had inverse correlation with BMI, WC, HC, wrist circumference, and NC (βs = -0.077, -0.10, -0.119, -0.01, and -0.032, respectively; P less then 0.05). Comparison of the fourth quartile with the first quartile of DPI revealed beneficial effects of higher phytochemical intake on reducing the risk of obesity/overweight and abdominal obesity. However, these results were not statistically significant (P = 0.073). Conclusion Higher DPI score was associated with lower risk of generalized and abdominal obesity in children and adolescents. However, the results were not statistically significant. Consuming phytochemical-rich foods can be encouraged to prevent childhood obesity.Smoking at workplace (WP) is common among healthcare workers. A cross-sectional study was conducted upon resident physicians and nurses to determine the prevalence of WP smoking and its associated factors. A questionnaire was used to collect socio-demographic and occupational data, smoking history, nicotine dependence, and attitude toward smoking and its control in WP. More than one-fifths (22.7%) of residents and nurses were current WP smokers. Significant independent predictors are having shift work, high nicotine dependence, and having positive attitude toward smoking with AOR (95% CI) 29.4 (4.9-177.1), 18.2 (3.3-101.1), and 0.16 (0.02-0.84), respectively. The prevalence of smoking among resident physicians and nurses in Mansoura University Hospital is relatively high. Enforcement of WP smoking-free policies is required together with encouragement of positive attitude toward smoking cessation.The smoking prevalence of medical faculty members has not been a subject of research as frequently as physicians and medical students. The objective of this study was to determine the status of tobacco use and some attitudes among medical faculty members of a Northern Cyprus university. The data were collected by a questionnaire of 22 questions, developed in compliance with WHO guidelines. The data were analyzed using IBM-SPSS 23.0 with p less then .05 evaluated as significant. For this cross-sectional study, 128 members of the 146 academics responded (response rate of 87.7%). Lifetime smoking frequency was 46.9%. Current smokers comprised 21.9% while 7.0% consumed non-cigarette products with overall tobacco use of 26.6%. Of the smokers, 52.9% had started smoking at medical school. Regarding doctors being nonsmoking role models, positive attitudes were expressed significantly more by non-smokers than smokers. Only 33.8% were covering tobacco control in their teaching programs while 86.5% had positive attitudes for comprehensive tobacco control in the curriculum. The medical faculty members had a relatively high frequency of tobacco use and the tobacco issue did not have sufficient content in the education programs. Promisingly, the majority of the medical faculty members were in a supportive attitude for comprehensive tobacco control education.Internet addiction has an important impact on individuals, families, and communities. The effects of internet addiction are cumulative, significantly contributing to costly physical, mental, social, and public health problems. Thus, this study sought to examine relationships between internet addiction and psychosomatic disorders in Iranian undergraduate nursing students. This cross-sectional study was conducted on 300 undergraduate nursing students in the city of Hamadan in Iran, in 2018. Data collection tools included socio-demographic, the internet addiction test (IAT), and the psychosomatic complaints questionnaire. Data were analyzed by a Pearson's and independent t-tests using SPSS-18.0. The mean age of the students were 22.3 ± 3.02. The findings showed that 78.7% of nursing students reported mild, 20% moderate and 1.3% severe internet addiction, and there was a significant positive correlation between internet addiction and psychosomatic disorders (P less then 0.05, r = 0.132). Internet addiction and psychosomatic disorders in nursing students can jeopardize their mental and physical health, and affect their future academic and professional activities.
