24 mm and the minimum distance between the African American (AA)-M and AA-F was 0.24 mm. This was the absolute distance. When the signed linear measurements were taken into consideration, the maximum average distance between Zim-F and AA-M was 1.22 mm and the least average distance between the Zim-M and AA-M was 0.22 mm. The absolute color histograms showed greatest similarity between the Zim-M and AA-M at 58% and the Zim-F had a 25 and 27% similarity with the AA-F and Zim-M, respectively. CONCLUSION The Zim-F showed the most variable features with a broader face, prominent forehead, and retruded alar base compared with their male counterparts and the Zim-M showed a wider prominent malar/zygomatic region, and prominent lateral supraorbital regions. There was a high similarity of 58% between the Zim-M and the AA-M, with the Zim-M showing a more protrusive superciliary arches, and a lateral zygomatic region tapering to the root of the nose.OBJECTIVE Different polymerization and reinforcement techniques have been tested to enhance the mechanical characteristics of denture base acrylic resins. The goal of the present study was to evaluate the influence of autoclave polymerization techniques with glass fiber reinforcement on the flexural strength and elastic modulus of polymethyl methacrylate denture base resins. MATERIALS AND METHODS Ninety specimens were fabricated from heat-polymerized acrylic resin and randomly distributed depending on the polymerization technique into three groups (n = 30) water bath polymerization, short-cycle autoclave polymerization, and long-cycle autoclave polymerization. Each group was further divided into three subgroups (n = 10) based on the concentration of glass fiber 0, 2.5, and 5wt%. The flexural strength and elastic modulus were investigated using a universal testing machine. One-way ANOVA and Tukey's post hoc test were performed to analyze the results (α = 0.05). RESULTS The flexural strength and elastic modulus values were significantly higher in 5wt% glass fiber reinforced long-cycle autoclave group in comparison with the other test groups (p less then 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The long-cycle autoclave polymerization technique with the glass fiber reinforcement significantly increased the flexural strength and elastic modulus of the denture base resin material.OBJECTIVES This study aimed to assess the effect of an optical whitening toothpaste on color stability of microhybrid, nanofilled, and microfilled composite resins and resin-modified glass ionomer (RMGI) cement in comparison of two other toothpastes. MATERIALS AND METHODS In this experimental study, disc-shaped composite samples were fabricated. The samples were then polished using silicon carbide papers. Twenty-seven samples of each material were fabricated and subjected to colorimetry using a spectrophotometer. One operator brushed the samples with an electric soft toothbrush with circular motion twice a day, each time for 30 seconds. Colorimetry was performed at 0, 1, 7, 30, and 90 days. STATISTICAL ANALYSIS Two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), one-way ANOVA, and Tukey's honestly significant difference (HSD) test were used for statistical analysie points, which shows that the tested toothpastes do not cause a significant change in color of composite materials.OBJECTIVES The focus of this triple-blind randomized study was to evaluate the mechanical properties, antibacterial effect, and in vivo biocompatibility of glass ionomer cements (GICs) modified with ethanolic extracts of propolis (EEP). MATERIALS AND METHODS For biocompatibility tests, 135 male Wistar rats were used and divided into nine groups Group C (control, polyethylene), Groups M, M10, M25, M50 (Meron; conventional, and modified with 10%, 25%, 50% EEP, respectively), Groups KC, KC10, KC25, KC50 (Ketac Cem; conventional, and modified with 10%, 25%, 50% EEP, respectively). The tissues were analyzed under an optical microscope for different cellular events in different time intervals. Shear bond strength test (SBST) on cementation of metal matrices (n = 10, per group), adhesive remnant index (ARI) in bovine incisors (n = 10, per group), and antibacterial properties by the agar diffusion test (n = 15, per group) were analyzed. STATISTICAL ANALYSIS Data were analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis test followed by Dunn, and one-way analysis of variance test followed by Tukey's test (p 0.05). Antibacterial property showed a statistically significant difference between Meron and Meron 50%-EEP Groups, and between Ketac and Ketac 50%-EPP Groups (p = 0.001). CONCLUSIONS The intensity of histological changes resulting from the cements was shown to be inversely proportional to the concentration of propolis added; Ketac 50%-EPP was the concentration that had the most favorable biocompatibility results. Addition of EEP to GIC did not negatively change the SBST and ARI. Antibacterial property demonstrated a concentration-dependent effect.OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to investigate the healing effect of advanced platelet-rich fibrin (A-PRF) clot membranes in palatal wounds, resulting from free gingival graft (FGG) harvesting, on the reepithelization rate and on the pain experience after surgery. MATERIALS AND METHODS Twenty-five patients requiring FGG have participated in this prospective cohort study. After FGG harvesting, the test group (n = 14) received A-PRF clot membranes at the palatal wound and the control group (n = 11) received a gelatin sponge. Epithelialization rate of the palatal wound, wound healing area, correspondent percentage of reduction, and postsurgical pain experience were assessed at 2, 7, 14, 30, and 90 days. RESULTS A-PRF group had higher palatal wound reduction than the control group, at 7, 14, and 30 days of follow-up. The highest difference between the groups was attained at 30 days (91.5% for A-PRF vs. 59.0% control group). At 14 days, a significant difference in the proportion of patients showing total epithelization was found 64.
