In this work, a simple and efficient method is introduced to prepare biomass-based porous carbon with excellent performance by changing the content of component (e.g., cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin, and extractives) of the raw materials. When the content of the components change, the corresponding carbon skeleton will be separated, resulting in a structure that is conducive to activation conditions. Using bagasse with fiber tubular structure as carbon precursor, the synthetic hierarchical porous carbon (BHPC-4) possesses a high specific surface area (SSA) of 3135 m2 g-1 more than the control sample (2484 m2 g-1). Benefitting from the improvement of the structure, the BHPC-4 electrode exhibits an appealing capacitance of 410.5F g-1 at 0.5 A g-1 and long-term cycling stability of 100% capacitance retention after 10,000 cycles in the 6.0 M KOH system. Furthermore, a delightful energy density of 25.6 Wh kg-1 at a 226 W kg-1 can be achieved in 1.8 V Na2SO4 aqueous symmetrical supercapacitors. This method has universal significance in preparing high-porosity and high-performance biomass-based carbon materials for various energy storage/conversion.We report on the physicochemical changes of infant formula (IF) powder and its macronutrients (lactose, fat, and proteins) under given storage conditions. Colloidal (particle size distribution, emulsion stability and sedimentation), morphological (scanning electron microscopy), thermal (differential scanning calorimetry), structural (synchrotron X-ray diffraction) as well as surface and chemical (X-ray photoelectron and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopies) data were used to elucidate the main cause-effect relationships for microstructural, functional, and other properties of the IF powder. The wetting behavior of the powder was found to be significantly affected by water activity (aw) during storage (aw in the range between 0.24 and 0.42). At the highest aw (aw = 0.42), lactose crystallization and fat migration took place, leading to changes on the surface of the particles that reduced powder wettability. We propose possible mechanisms to explain the observations, associated with changes in protein conformation. Interestingly, no major changes in the pH and colloidal characteristics, including particle size and distribution, stability, and sedimentation were observed in the reconstituted IF powder upon storage for 6 weeks. The results indicated a negligible contribution from possible Maillard reactions. We propose leading microstructural and wetting characterization to troubleshoot changes in the quality of IF powder, most relevant from the perspective of reconstitution after storage.Scientific conferences have an important role in the exchange of ideas and knowledge within the scientific community. Conferences also provide early-career researchers with opportunities to make themselves known within their field of research. Although the COVID-19 pandemic has brought traditional in-person conferences to a halt for the foreseeable future, the growth of virtual conferences has highlighted many of the disadvantages associated with the in-person format and demonstrated the advantages of moving these events online. Here, based on data from in-person and virtual conferences in a range of subjects, we describe how virtual conferences are more inclusive, more affordable, less time-consuming and more accessible worldwide, especially for early-career researchers. Making conferences more open and inclusive will provide both immediate and long-term benefits to the scientific community.Null.Null.Null.Null.Null.Null.Occult HBV is defined as the presence of HBV DNA in the liver tissue and / or HBV DNA in blood of people with negative HBsAg by currently available assays. The objective of the study was to determine the prevalence of occult HBV in chronic HCV patients. It was a cross-sectional study of one year duration including patients coming to the outpatient department with a positive HCV RNA by PCR from May 2018 to May 2019. Blood samples were taken to test HBsAg. Those cases who were HBsAg negative were checked for HBV DNA using real time PCR. A total of 217 cases were included in the study. learn more Mean age was 41.3 + 14.61 years. All 217 cases of chronic HCV infection, which were positive for HCV RNA by PCR, were found to be negative for both HBsAg and HBV DNA. No occult HBV was detected in cases of chronic HCV infection seeking treatment. Key Words Occult, Hepatitis B, Chronic hepatitis C.Ataxia-telangiectasia (A-T) is a genetically inherited disease, which is transmitted as an autosomal recessive disorder. There is a high incidence of consanguineous marriages in our area, so we believe that A-T may have higher incidence. A-T is characterised clinically by triad of cerebellar degeneration, telangiectasia, and immunodeficiency. We are reporting a 4-year girl with a novel genetic variant of AT, which is not reported before in local or international literature. She presented with necrotising pneumonia complicated by bronchopleural fistulae. She was treated successfully with antimicrobials and intravenous immunoglobulins and other supportive measures without surgical intervention. Key Words Ataxia telangiectasia, Necrotising pneumonia, Bronchopleural fistulae.Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune connective tissue disease characterised by inflammation. Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is a highly invasive malignant tumor derived from pleural mesothelial cells. Here, we report a case of SLE with MPM. A 42-year woman with no exposure to asbestos presented with severe left chest pain. Initially, we diagnosed her with SLE because of the clinical manifestations and high antinuclear antibody titer. Finally, a diagnosis of MPM was made, based on pleural biopsy. Her condition was under control after one cycle of chemotherapy and oral methotrexate. However, three years later, she was admitted with dyspnea, mild orthopnea, and tachycardia, and died one month later after discontinuing treatment. MPM is rare, and MPM with SLE is even rarer. We should pay attention to pleural effusion when diagnosing SLE. If possible, a pleural biopsy should be performed to reduce misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis. Key Words Pleural effusion, Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), Mesothelioma.
