To investigate the mean platelet volume (MPV) in asymptomatic children infected with COVID-19.
The study included 55 children infected with COVID-19 and 60 healthy children for the comparison of leukocyte and thrombocyte count, MPV and serum C-reactive protein (CRP) levels. Demographic data and clinical findings of all the participants were recorded, including age, gender, weight, temperature, cough, shortness of breath and contact history.
The MPV values were determined to be statistically significantly high (P<.001) and the lymphocyte values were significantly low (p0.002) in the asymptomatic children infected with COVID-19 compared with the healthy control children. No difference was determined between the groups in respect of CRP level, leukocyte and thrombocyte counts (P>.05). The optimal cutoff point for MPV was determined as 8.74fl (Area under the curve-AUC0.932) with 81.82% sensitivity and 95% specificity for the determination of children infected with COVID-19. A cutoff value of <2.12/mm
for lymphocytes (AUC0.670) was determined with 49.09% sensitivity and 86.67% specificity for the prediction of COVID-19. Based on the ROC analysis, the sensitivity and specificity of MPV were determined to be higher than that of lymphocyte levels.
The results of this study indicate that MPV levels are significantly high in asymptomatic children infected with COVID-19 demonstrate that this is an important predictive value and has better predictive capacity than lymphocyte values. The evaluation of MPV and lymphocyte levels together could increase diagnostic success in asymptomatic COVID-19 patients.

Esophageal hypersensitivity is considered an important pathophysiological mechanism in refractory gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) patients. Serotonin (5-HT) plays an important role in the regulation of GI (gastrointestinal) secretion, motility and sensitivity. Previous studies found that altered 5-HT availability has no clear effects on esophageal/GI sensations. Our aim was therefore to investigate the role of 5-HT in esophageal sensitivity in healthy volunteers (HV).
Esophageal sensitivity to thermal, mechanical, electrical, and chemical stimuli was assessed in 3 different placebo-controlled studies. In the first study, the effect of citalopram (40mg; 5-HT reuptake inhibitor; intravenous) was investigated (n=14). In the second study, the effect of buspirone (20mg; 5HT1A agonist; oral) was investigated (n=10). In the third study, acute tryptophan depletion (ATD) was used to decrease 5-HT levels to investigate the effect of reduced 5-HT availability on esophageal sensitivity (n=15).
No difference in the control of esophageal acid sensitivity, but identifying the receptors involved requires more ligands and studies.
Abdominal compartment syndrome after kidney transplantation in pediatric recipients is a recognized complication relating to size discrepancy requiring abdominal wall closure over a large adult allograft. OTSSP167 In order to circumvent this problem, our center implemented use of a surgical mesh, Surgisis
(Cook Surgical, Bloomington, IN), for abdominal wall closure in very small children to increase the surface covering over the organ and prevent compression. In this article, we report on the complications encountered following the use of these mesh patches.
A retrospective case review was conducted of all pediatric kidney transplants from September 2006 to December 2018 and divided into abdominal wall closure with and without implantation of Surgisis
mesh patch. Review of clinical notes was performed to identify information with respect to clinical course and post-operative outcomes.
A surgical mesh patch was used in 7 pediatric recipients, of which 5 (71%) presented with post-operative complications. Three recipients were found to have bowel obstruction related to the surgical patch, necessitating bowel resection in one child. In addition, three children developed large serous fluid collections between the subcutaneous layers and the surgical mesh, requiring surgical drainage in two.
In view of these findings, we recommend close surveillance for potential complications in this cohort. Future research is needed to explore the safety of different approaches to achieve abdominal wall closure in this group.

Public knowledge and perception significance in tackling pandemics have been evidenced in the previous research. This study aimed to explore public perceptions about pharmacists' educational and prescribing role, and the medication delivery service provided during COVID-19 outbreak. A cross-sectional study was conducted among the general population of Jordan using a convenient sampling technique for 10 days (15-25 May 2020). Data were collected from 578 participants who agreed to fill the questionnaire, which was distributed online. The questionnaire items were piloted using face validity and reliability. Participants showed a positive perception about the impact of pharmacists and pharmacy services provided during COVID-19 outbreak. More than half of the participants (61.1%) believed that pharmacists could prescribe over-the-counter medications, and only 15.7% believed that pharmacists could prescribe both over-the-counter and prescritheir regulation to allow extending pharmacy services and prescribing role during COVID-19 pandemic.
