[Status involving palliative treatment education within Indonesia : A survey involving medical function throughout 2018].
The present study was undertaken to investigate the effect of aqueous Withania somnifera root (WSR) extract in broiler chicks experimentally infected with Escherichia coli O78 @ 107 CFU/0.5 ml intraperitoneally. Clinical signs and mortality due to colibacillosis observed in infected chicks were mild and lasted for short duration in WSR extract supplemented group as compared with the nonsupplemented group. A significant increase in serum alanine transaminase, aspartate transaminase, lactate dehydrogenase, and creatine phosphokinase activities and a decrease in total protein and albumin concentrations were observed in the infected groups, though these changes were of lower magnitude in WSR extract supplemented group. A significantly higher activity of oxidative blood parameters such as superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione reductase, and glutathione-S-transferase enzymes were noticed in WSR extract supplemented group. The WSR extract supplemented group revealed significantly higher E. coli-specific antibody titer and enhanced lymphocyte proliferation response as compared with the nonsupplemented group. The gross and histopathological lesions of colibacillosis were mild in the WSR extract-supplemented infected group as compared with the nonsupplemented infected group. Withania somnifera root extract supplementation produced 31.48 and 34.38% protection in the gross and histopathological lesions in E. coli infected chicks, respectively. It is concluded that supplementation of 20% WSR extract @ 20 ml/L of water caused a reduction in the severity, mortality, and recovery period of E. coli infection and enhanced the humoral and cellular immune responses suggesting its protective effect on limiting the pathology of E. learn more coli infection in broiler chickens. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary arginine (Arg) supplementation on the inflammatory response and gut microbiota of broiler chickens subjected to Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium. One hundred and forty 1-day-old Arbor Acres male birds were randomly assigned to a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement including diet treatment (with or without 0.3% Arg supplementation) and immunological stress (with or without S. typhimurium challenge). Samples were obtained at 7 D after infection (day 23). Results showed that S. typhimurium challenge caused histopathological and morphological damages, but Arg addition greatly reduced these intestinal injuries. S. typhimurium challenge elevated the levels of serum inflammatory parameters, including diamine oxidase, C-reactive protein, procalcitonin, IL-1β, IL-8, and lipopolysaccharide-induced tumor necrosis factor-alpha factor (LITNF) homolog. However, Arg supplementation decreased the serum procalcitonin, IL-1β, IL-8, and LITNF concentration. S. typhimzobium cellulosilyticum and Rubrobacter xylanophilus species as compared with the only S. typhimurium-challenged birds. In conclusion, Arg supplementation can alleviate intestinal mucosal impairment by ameliorating inflammatory response and modulating gut microbiota in broiler chickens challenged with S. typhimurium. The dynamic development of the animal intestine with a concurrent succession of microbiota and changes in microbial community and metabolite spectrum can exert far-reaching effects on host physiology. However, the precise mechanism of mutual response between microbiota and the gut is yet to be fully elucidated. Broilers with varying developmental degrees of intestinal wall thickness were selected, and they were divided into the thick group (H type) and the thin group (B type), using multiomics data integration analysis to reveal the fundamental regulatory mechanisms of gut-microbiota interplay. Our data showed, in broilers with similar body weight, the intestinal morphological parameters were improved in H type and the diversity of microbial communities is distinguishable from each other. The beneficial bacteria such as Bifidobacterium breve was increased whereas avian endogenous retrovirus EAV-HP was decreased in the H type compared with the B type. Furthermore, microbial metabolic potentials were more active, especially the biosynthesis of folate was improved in the H type. Similarly, the consolidation of absorption, immunity, metabolism, and development was noticed in the thick group. Correlation analysis indicated that the expression levels of material transport and immunomodulatory-related genes were positively correlated with the relative abundance of several probiotics such as B. breve, Lactobacillus saerimneri, and Butyricicoccus pullicaecorum. Our findings suggest that the chickens with well-developed ileal thickness own exclusive microbial composition and metabolic potential, which is closely related to small intestinal morphogenesis and homeostasis. In poultry, viral infections (e.g., Marek's disease virus, avian leukosis virus, influenza A virus, and so on) can cause devastating mortality and economic losses. Because viruses are solely dependent on host cells to propagate, they alter the host intracellular microenvironment. Thus, understanding the virus-host interaction is important for antiviral immunity and drug development in the poultry industry. MicroRNAs are crucial posttranscriptional regulators of gene expression in a wide spectrum of biological processes, including viral infection. Recently, microRNAs have been identified as key players in virus-host interactions. In this review, we will discuss the intricacies involved in the virus-host cross-talk mediated by host and viral microRNAs in poultry (i.e., chicken and ducks), as well as recent trends and challenges in this field. These findings may provide some insights into the rapidly developing area of research regarding viral pathogenesis and antiviral immunity in poultry production. Forty broilers maintained under natural hypobaric hypoxia (2,638 m above sea level) and 20 maintained under relative normoxia (460 m above sea level) were selected as pulmonary hypertensive (PHB) and nonpulmonary hypertensive (NPHB), to estimate the degree of the adventitial vascular thickness in lung arterioles and connective tissue growth factor (CTGF) expression in lung. In each group, the adventitial thickness (%AT) of 20 arterioles with 100 to 250 μm of external diameter was measured in lung samples of 24 and 42-day-old broilers. Also, mRNA extraction and real-time reverse transcription-PCR analysis were used to measure lung CTGF expression. The %AT was higher in PHB at 42 D as compared to NPHB at both ages and PHB at 24 D; however, the same differences were not evidenced at 24 D. In the 2 ages evaluated, differences were observed in the %AT between broilers under hypobaric hypoxia (PHB and NPHB) and under relative normoxia (P less then 0.01). In broilers subjected to relative normoxia, no significant differences were found at any of the 2 ages.
