Anemia is the most common nutritional problem and a widespread micronutrient-deficiency disorder on a global scale. In Ethiopia, childhood anemia is highly prevalent and a major public health concern. selleckchem aimed to identify factors associated with anemia among children aged 6-59 months in Ethiopia.
Data weres extracted from the 2016 Ethiopia Demographic and Health Survey (EDHS). We found records for 8,603 children aged 6-59 months in the data set. After 448 had been excluded due to incomplete records, 8,155 children were included in the final analysis. Pearson's χ
was used to assess associations between each factor and categorical outcome variables. Multivariate logistic regression analyses were done to determine factors associated with anemia, and significant associations were declared at
≤0.05 for the final model.
More than half (51.5%) the children were male and the overall mean age was 31.85±15.66 months. Mean hemoglobin concentration was 10.37±17.55 g/dL. The overall prevalence of anemia prehensive intervention strategies should be put in place and tailored to different levels of government (national, regional, and district) including household- and individual-level interventions for combating childhood anemia by focusing on the identified risk factors.
To investigate dental students' ability to deliver satisfactory amounts of irradiance and radiant exposure to simulated cavities by teaching the light-curing technique using instructional video compared to verbal instructions.
Students attended the didactic light-curing lecture explaining the light-curing technique. Participants were divided into two groups (n=60). Each participant light-cured a class III and a class I simulated cavities with sensors built-in a Managing Accurate Resin Curing-Patient Simulator (MARC-PS) system, using a multiple-emission-peak light-emitting-diode unit. Each student either 1) watched an instructional video (V) showing the light-curing technique, or 2) received individual verbal instruction (I). The light-curing performance, in terms of the mean irradiance and radiant exposure, was recorded. Each student performed light-curing again on the simulated cavities. Students' feedback for the corresponding teaching method was collected. Comparisons between before and after each inster sufficient amounts of irradiance and radiant exposure to simulated cavities.
Sexual assault cases are increasingly reported in Ethiopia and worldwide. However, in Ethiopia, sexual assaults' profile was not investigated well, regardless of its social, physical, and psychological impacts on survivors. Hence, this study assessed the survivors' characteristics, circumstances of the victims, and treatment offered with the view of describing the management process, and service responsiveness.
A descriptive study with 3 years retrospective chart review was conducted in Jimma University Medical Center (JUMC). Samples of 187 charts/medical records were selected using a systematic random sampling technique from the medical unit. #link# The selected survivors' records were reviewed using a structured checklist. Data were analyzed using SPSS Version 21.0.
Out of the 187 cases of sexual assaults during the study period, 67.4% were rape cases. Among these, 58.8% were below 14 years, and 85.6% knew their assailants. Above 30% of the victims were assaulted during the daytime, and 51.9% developed perenighlighted the need for closer monitoring and better follow-up of the care and support provided in the Medical Center to sexual assault victims.
Gorlin-Goltz syndrome (GGS) also known as nevoid basal cell carcinoma syndrome (NBCCS) is a complex rare genetic disorder characterized by a wide range of clinical and radiological manifestations. Ophthalmological alterations have always been reported, but no study on the eventual pattern visual evoked potentials (pVEPs) abnormalities has yet been published.
The purpose of the study was to evaluate the functionality of the optic pathways in a group of NBCCS patients through pattern reversal VEPs, after a thorough exclusion of subjects with preexisting ocular and optic pathways pathologies.
Nineteen NBCCS patients (31 eyes) and 20 healthy controls (40 eyes) have been recruited for this study. All subjects underwent an evaluation of the functionality of the optic pathways through pVEPs with small (120'), medium (60'), and large (15') check size stimulation.
NBCCS patients showed a statistically significant alteration in the transmission of the macular pathway function when compared to controls. PVEPs analysis confirmed a reduced amplitude and an increased latency of the P100 component, suggesting an involvement of the visual pathway even in the absence of ocular clinical manifestations.
Visual pathways may have been affected both by a subclinical myelination deficit, determined directly by the genetic alteration, as well as by neurological abnormalities typical of this syndrome. Further studies are warranted.

The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the effect of time (season, surgical starting time in the daytime, preoperative waiting time) on patients with gastric cancer.
A retrospective collection of medical records of patients who underwent gastrectomy at a single clinical center from January 2013 to December 2018 was performed. Medical records were collected, and short-term outcomes and long-term survival were analyzed by different time groups.
A total of 586 patients were included in this study. In terms of surgical starting time, the midday group had a shorter operation time (p=0.017) but more complications (p=0.048) than the non-midday group. No significant difference was found based on the season of gastrectomy. The long preoperative waiting group had a shorter postoperative hospital stay than the short waiting group (p=0.026). No significant difference was found between the short-waiting group and long-waiting group in overall survival for all clinical stages. Age (p=0.040, HR=1.017, 95% CI=1.
