Specific emotional prosodies may therefore differentially influence emotion perception, with happy voices exhibiting posterior activity in receptive emotion areas and angry voices displaying activity in anterior expressive emotion areas.Cold and hypoxia are critical drivers of adaptation to high altitudes. Organisms at high altitudes have adapted to maximize the efficiency of oxygen utilization and are less prone to obesity and diabetes than those at low altitudes. Brown adipose tissue (BAT) dissipates energy in the form of heat in both humans and rodents; it also serves to regulate metabolism to curb obesity. However, the role of BAT in high-altitude populations is poorly understood. Serum exosomes can be easily obtained, enabling the study of BAT functions and identification of biomarkers in serum exosomes, both of which contribute to understanding the role of BAT in high-altitude populations. 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography integrated with computed tomography (PET/CT) is the gold standard for studying BAT in human adults. Here, we studied BAT in healthy high-altitude populations via PET/CT and serum exosomal microRNAs (miRNAs). The observations were validated in mouse tissues and demonstrated that high-altitude hypoxia activated BAT through attenuated white adipose tissue (WAT) secreted exosomal miR-210/92a, which enhanced the FGFR-1 expression in BAT.This study aims to report the 12 months results of efficacy and safety of laser photocoagulation and anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) injections for drusenoid pigment epithelial detachment (dPED). In this prospective study, patients with treatment naïve bilateral intermediate age-related macular degeneration, featuring dPED, with visual acuity ≤ 83 letters were enrolled. The study group received PASCAL laser (532 nm) along the periphery of the dPED, and the fellow eye served as a control group. To prevent complications of choroidal neovascularization, intravitreal anti-VEGF injections to laser treated eye were performed on a 3-month interval up to 1 year. Primary outcomes-drusen area, PED height-and secondary outcomes-best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), contrast sensitivity, degree of metamorphopsia, NEI-VFQ 25, and fundus autofluorescence-were analyzed. Among 21 patients, a total of 20 patients satisfied the 12 months follow-up. Drusen area and PED height decreased significantly in the laser group, while no significant change appeared in the control group (74.1% vs. - 3.5%, P  less then  0.001; 76.6% vs. 0.1%, P  less then  0.001). Mean BCVA improved 4.6 letters in the laser group (vs. 1.1 letters in the control group, P = 0.019). As for safety, one study eye developed retinal pigment epithelial tear, and one control eye developed retinal angiomatous proliferation. Low energy laser photocoagulation and anti-VEGF injection in eyes with dPED showed some improvement in visual acuity. selleck kinase inhibitor dPED regressed without developing center involving GA in the study eye, but a longer term follow-up is necessary to reveal the efficacy and safety of these treatments. The 2-year results of this study will be followed to reveal long term efficacy and safety of the treatment for dPED.This study aimed to investigate alveolar bone change around mandibular anterior teeth during orthodontic decompensation in patients with skeletal Class III malocclusion and different vertical facial patterns. The records of 29 consecutive Class III patients selected from those pending two-jaw orthognathic surgery were divided into low (≤ 28°), average (30°-37°), and high (≥ 39°) mandibular plane angle (MPA) groups. The DICOM files of CBCT scans and STL files of digital dental models, taken before (T1) and after (T2) presurgical orthodontic treatment, were imported into Dolphin imaging software to reconstruct dentoskeletal images. T1 and T2 images were superimposed and analyzed for bone thickness and height at the level of root apex on each mid-sagittal slice of six mandibular anterior teeth. Differences between T1 and T2 were analyzed by non-parametric tests and mixed-effect model analysis. The results showed that the measurements of alveolar bone height generally decreased after treatment, regardless of MPA. The facial divergence, incisor irregularity, tooth site, treatment time, and change in proclination were identified as the significant factors affecting alveolar bone thickness and height during treatment. The presurgical orthodontic treatment to decompensate mandibular anterior teeth should be very careful in all MPA groups. This research investigated the association between prolonged disposable diaper (DD) wearing in infancy and primary enuresis (PNE). As a case-control study, we collected data from 376 children with enuresis and 379 healthy children who were sex- and age-matched at three tertiary care institutions in mainland China from August 2017 to July 2018. The results of adjusted logistic regression showed the odds ratios (95% confidence intervals) for PNE across the categories of age of daytime DD use cessation were as follows ≥ 25 months 1.00, 18-24 months 0.25 (0.17-0.37), and ≤ 17 months 0.11 (0.06-0.20), independent of age, mother education, residence, toilet training approach, breastfeeding duration, UTI, constipation, anaphylactic disease and family history. After a similar multivariable adjustment, increased age of daytime DD use (per-month) had a positive correlation with PNE, OR = 1.17, 95% CI 1.13-1.20 and non-linear relationship was detected, whose point was 21 months (the effect sizes and the 95%CI on the left and right sides of inflection point were 1.04 (0.99-1.10), P = 0.131 and 1.25 (1.18-1.31), P  less then  0.001). Subgroup analysis found that the effect of duration of disposable diaper exposure for each additional month, those children had accepted assisted infant toilet training/elimination communication (AITT/EC) practice had a lower risk of PNE (OR = 1.08, 95% CI 1.04-1.12), compared with those without AITT/EC practice (OR = 1.20, 95% CI 1.14-1.27), P for interaction less then 0.001. In conclusion, the children diagnosed with primary enuresis after age 5 stopped using disposable diapers at daytime later than the control group. Association between duration of DD exposure and the risk of childhood enuresis is modified by AITT/EC practice. Timely cessation use of disposable diaper and practice AITT/EC may shorten the time to nocturnal continence, and the prospective cohort studies are needed to verify the discoveries.
