nd promote bacterial growth, which leads to a degradation of the soil and air quality. Taking into account the objectives of sustainable development, better development of these by-products would make it possible to produce valuable biomaterials that will be applied in various fields and which have benefits for the environment and humans. The central objective of this research is accentuated on the enhancement of Sardina pilchardus scales; by the conversion of chitin into chitosan and the determination of its physicochemical characterization. The obtained chitosan from Sardina pilchardus scales could be applied in the agricultural and food industry. Background COVID-19 era has put laparoscopic surgery a risk procedure because of theoretical risk of viral transmission of COVID-19. However, safe evacuation of stagnant air during laparoscopic surgery is also necessary to safeguard health care warriors. Methods We are reporting experience of 24 laparoscopic surgeries using a closed smoke evacuation/filtration system using a ultra low-particulate air (ULPA) filtration capability (ConMed AirSeal® System) at a single center between March 22, 2020, and May 30, 2020. All surgeries were either urgent or emergency in nature. Results Totally, 17 males and 7 females who required urgent surgery. Most common indication for laparoscopic intervention was acute cholecystitis and complications related to acute cholecystitis. Owing to the closed smoke evacuation system, low intra-abdominal pressure was maintained during all surgeries. FL118 Of all procedures, only 0.8 time per procedure, the laparoscope taken out for cleaning. Mean time for completion of surgery was 58 minutes. Compliance of surgical staff was high due to the deemed safe smoke evacuation system. Mean of postoperative pain score was low. Mean hospital stay was 4.9 days. Conclusions We propose to use a closed smoke evacuation/filtration system with ULPA filtration capability or similar devices in each minimally invasive surgery to reduce risks of transmission as minute as possible until we have enough knowledge about the pattern of disease transmission.
This study aims to investigate the incidence of aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and triglyceride (TG) elevation, and the relationship with the phase I unit effect, and the moderate activity in healthy subjects enrolled in Phase I clinical trials.

The demographic, AST, ALT, TG and activity data were collected from the placebo (146 subjects) groups and tested drug (885 subjects) groups in 20 phase I trials.

Elevated AST, ALT and TG levels above the upper limit of normal were detected in 1.37%, 4.79% and 34.7% of subjects in the placebo group, respectively, 3.73%, 6.67% and 39.2% of subjects in the tested drug group, respectively. The incidence of elevated AST, ALT and TG increased with the extended hospital stay. However, the incidence of elevated AST and ALT, but not the elevated TG, was reduced in subjects with moderate exercise during their hospital stay. The logistic regression analysis revealed that the baseline AST and ALT level, female gender, moderate exercise and duration of hospital stay were independent risk factors for ALT elevation.

Moderate exercise during hospital stay may reduce the elevation rate of transaminases, but not TG, in subjects at phase I trials.

In this personal view article, executive members of the University of Toronto medical student government and Faculty leads of pre-clerkship and clerkship education highlight five practical ways in which a student-Faculty partnership enabled the rapid and smooth adaptation of curricula during the COVID-19 pandemic. These included involving students as partners in decision making to contribute learner perspectives early, agile and collaborative meeting structures, frequent and consistent communication with the student body, providing learners with Faculty perspectives from the frontlines, and striking a balance in the level of feedback collected from students. These strategies may be of utility to medical administrators, educators, and student leaders in future crises affecting medical learners.
We aimed to assess pharmacists' contraceptive knowledge and evaluate the contraceptives requested and sold in pharmacies.

A descriptive study was carried out in October 2016 in cooperation with the Chamber of Pharmacists of Istanbul Province, Turkey. Data were collected by questionnaire, and pharmacists' total knowledge scores were calculated.

The study comprised 101 participants, 86.1% of whom were women. Combined oral contraceptives were the most requested (97.0%) and supplied (94.1%) contraceptive method. The mean total knowledge score of pharmacists was 51.6 ± 12.9 (median 54.0, range 14.0-72.0). Among pharmacists, 51.5% said they had never received any training about contraception.

The results showed that pharmacists providing contraceptive counselling services need continuing in-service training. The current regulations on the duties and responsibilities of pharmacists in Turkey involve the provision of counselling about medication use. Effective training is suggested to provide better quality services in family planning/reproductive health care.

Although it is well known that treatment with clozapine is associated with improvement in core symptoms of schizophrenia, little information is available about its impact on other outcome variables. Accordingly, this study aimed to evaluate the short term (3 months) effectiveness of clozapine in patients with treatment-resistant schizophrenia (TRS) in terms of quality of life, disability, and level of functioning.

This naturalistic follow-up study evaluated 52 participants at the baseline and three months (±1 week) after initiation of clozapine (prospective assessment) on Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale for schizophrenia, Calgary Depression Scale for Schizophrenia, Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale Checklist and Scale, Clinical Global Impression (CGI) scale, Beck Cognitive Insight Scale (BCIS), Scale to Assess Unawareness of Mental Disorders (SUMD), Social Occupational Functioning Scale - SOFS, Functioning Assessment Short Test (FAST), Indian Disability Evaluation and Assessment Scale (IDEAS), World Health Organisation Quality Of Life-BREF (WHOQOL-BREF) and Self-report Quality of Life Measure for people with schizophrenia.
