Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is an inherited disorder related to the synthesis of type 1 collagen. Clinical signs of pain from the fracture of fragile bones are common. A 3-month-old male Chinchilla cat was presented for lameness and pain from a right femoral fracture. After surgical repair using intramedullary pins, and since repeated fractures occurred and there is little information about genes causing OI in cats, various examinations were performed to discriminate other diseases that could cause the pathological fracture. Primary hyperparathyroidism and nutritional or renal secondary hyperparathyroidism were ruled out through blood tests and ultrasonography. Quantitative CT confirmed low trabecular bone mineral density compared with normal cats. Radiography and histopathological examination revealed thin cortical bone. OI was tentatively diagnosed and long-term follow-up of the surgical repair was reviewed. Fractures were treated using intramedullary Kirschner wires. The same method of intramedullary pinning was then applied preventively to protect several other long bones by improving stress distribution and bending resistance. Follow-up was performed for 3 years until the patient's death due to undetermined reasons.

A 6-year-old female spayed Ragdoll presented with a 4-day history of acute onset non-productive retching, coughing and anorexia. Initially, aspiration pneumonia was suspected owing to an alveolar lung pattern in the right cranial ventral lung lobes seen on radiographs. The cat did not improve with empirical antibiotic therapy. As there was no prior history of endotracheal intubation, the development of fibrinous tracheal pseudomembrane in this cat was suspected to be secondary to Pseudonomas aeruginosa aspiration pneumonia.

Consumption of nutritionally adequate complementary foods is essential for optimal growth and development of infants and toddlers, including those in developing countries. The aim of this study was to describe the food and beverage consumption patterns among 6-23.9 month old Filipino infants and toddlers, by household wealth.

Data from 1087 infants and toddlers from the 2013 National Nutrition Survey were included. Dietary intake data was assessed using a 24Hr recall and population food intakes were stratified into pre-defined wealth categories.

Breast milk, infant formula, powdered milk and rice were the most commonly consumed foods and beverages across the age groups. Several differences in complementary feeding by wealth status were observed. Infants from poor households (69%) reported significantly greater consumption of human milk, than those from rich households (42%) who reported a significantly greater consumption of infant/toddler formula (Poor 22%, Rich 56%) (
< 0.05). A higher percentage er in poorer households. Interventions are required to enable caregivers of young Filipino children to provide complementary foods of high nutritional quality, particularly among children from the poor households.
