Chonopeltis lisikili Van As and Van As, 1996 was original described from the Eastern Caprivi (Namibia) and the Okavango System (Botswana), collected from five Synodontis Cuvier, 1816 (Mochokidae) species. This fish genus is endemic to Africa, with 130 valid species, making it one of the most species-rich and widely distributed mochokid catfish family. During parasitological surveys conducted in the Phongolo River (South Africa), a Chonopeltis Thiele, 1900 species was collected from Synodontis zambezensis Peters, 1852. In total, 21 adult females, four adult males, as well as representatives of the larval developmental stages were found. After morphological comparison, this branchiuran was identified as C. lisikili. This paper provides additional information on body measurements and morphological information of all the life stages of the Phongolo material. Information on Chonopeltis material collected from the Okavango River, Botswana, not yet published is also included as well as the first molecular characterisation of a Chonopeltis species using COI and 18 S rRNA partial sequencing. The endemicity of the host and fish lice necessitates a discussion on the host origin and distribution in more than one river system, particularly referring to host specificity for Chonopeltis species.Several species of wild mammals are farmed in China as part of the rural development and poverty alleviation, including fur animals, bamboo rats, and macaque monkeys. Concerns have been raised on the potential dispersal of pathogens to humans and other farm animals brought in from native habitats. Numerous studies have been conducted on the genetic identity and public health potential of Cryptosporidium spp., Giardia duodenalis, and Enterocytozoon bieneusi in these newly farmed exotic animals. The data generated have shown a high prevalence of the pathogens in farmed wildlife, probably due to the stress from the short captivity and congregation of large numbers of susceptible animals. Host adaptation at species/genotype and subtype levels has reduced the potential for cross-species and zoonotic transmission of pathogens, but the farm environment appears to favor the transmission of some species, genotypes, and subtypes, with reduced pathogen diversity compared with their wild relatives. Most genotypes and subtypes of the pathogens detected appear to be brought in from their native habitats. A few of the subtypes have emerged as human pathogens. One Health measures should be developed to slow the dispersal of indigenous pathogens among farmed exotic animals and prevent their spillover to other farm animals and humans. Two new species of Cephalogonimidae Looss, 1899 (from Emoleptalea Looss, 1900 and Masenia Chatterji, 1933) are described from African freshwater fishes. Emoleptalea mozambiquensis n. sp. infected the turquoise killifish, Nothobranchius furzeri Jubb, in Mozambique and differs from its nine congeners by the combination of differences in body shape and size, oral sucker shape, sucker width ratio, configuration of the digestive tract and gonads, vitelline follicle shape and vitellarium configuration. Emoleptalea dollfusi Srivastava, 1960 is a synonym of Emoleptalea loossi Srivastava, 1960, thus there are still nine accepted species. Masenia baroensis n. sp. infected the globe fish, Tetraodon lineatus L., in the Republic of Guinea and differs from its five African congeners and 15 Asian congeners by the combination of circumoral spine count, oral sucker shape, caecal extent, ovary shape, genital pore position, and configuration of the vitellarium. Masenia dayali (Gupta & Puri, 1984) Chandra & Saxena, 2016 and Mase10 plagiorchioid families.Enterocytozoon bieneusi is a zoonotic pathogen that infects a variety of hosts including humans, livestock, wildlife, companion animals, and birds, as well as being abundant in the environment. Humans and nonhuman animals could be infected with E. bieneusi via consumption of food or water that contains zoonotic and host-adapted genotypes. In this study, 288 fecal specimens were collected from farmed minks, blue foxes, and raccoon dogs, in Xinjiang, China. Enterocytozoon bieneusi was examined by PCR amplification based on sequence analysis of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region. The overall infection rate of E. bieneusi was 4.9% (14/288), with mink samples showing the highest infection rate (5.6%, 12/214), followed by blue foxes (2.9%, 1/35), and then raccoon dogs (2.6%, 1/39). Six E. bieneusi genotypes were identified, including D (n = 5), PigEBITS7 (n = 4), EbpA (n = 2), CAM5 (n = 1), WildBoar3 (n = 1), and a novel genotype XJMI-1 (n = 1). Phylogenetic analysis showed that all E. bieneusi genotypes belonged to group 1, which composed of over 300 genotypes and most of them have been identified in human and variety of animals, suggesting a risk of zoonotic transmission from farmed wildlife to humans.Metastrongylus sp. is a lungworm with worldwide distribution in wild boars and other suids. In Switzerland, two wild boar populations are geographically divided by the Alps. We investigated 84 wild boars, 52 from north and 32 from south of the Alps, different in sex and age (juveniles, subadults, adults), shot between September and December 2018. The lungs were macroscopically examined and dissected for the detection of Metastrongylus specimens. Additionally, faecal samples were obtained from 55 animals and analysed by sedimentation/flotation and the mini-FLOTAC® method. Overall, 12'774 Metastrongylus sp. specimens were isolated prevalence was 77.4% and mean burden 196.5 (range 1-2589), with no significant differences between north (80.8%, 218.0) and south (71.9%, 157.4) nor between sexes and age groups. Macroscopically, dense nodular lesions associated with Metastrongylus sp. were present in 19 out of 65 (33.9%) positive lungs. Five Metastrongylus sp. were detected M. pudendotectus (67.9%), M. salmi (63.1%),parasites in the wildlife reservoir is relevant to better understand risk factors for the domestic pig population. The Amphibia are considered the most threatened vertebrate class globally, yet in Brazil they are also one of the more diverse and species rich groups. Although, in recent years there has been strong focus on amphibian related research, their parasites have not received the same attention. In Brazil, only a single species of Hepatozoon, namely H. leptodactyli (Lesage, 1908) Pessoa, 1970, has been described from anuran hosts. The present study aimed to describe three new species of Hepatozoon parasitising Leptodactylus labyrinthicus and Leptodactylus latrans from Mato Grosso State, Brazil. From 66 anurans screened for haemogregarines, four belonging to the Leptodactylidae were found positive for species of Hepatozoon. Based on the morphological analysis of peripheral blood gamonts and spleen and liver tissue meronts, three different morphotypes of Hepatozoon spp. read more were identified. Morphotype 1 (M1) and morphotype 2 (M2) in L. labyrinthicus and morphotype 3 (M3) in L. latrans. Molecular data based on partial 18S rDNA sequences revealed an interspecific divergence, between the species ranging from 0.
