To evaluate the diagnostic yield, safety, and factors associated with the diagnostic yield of percutaneous core needle biopsy (PNB) for peritoneal/omental lesions.

Consecutive 297 patients (67 men, 230 women; median age, 64years [range 15-87]) who underwent a PNB for 311 peritoneal/omental lesions at a single center from April 2010 to March 2020 were evaluated retrospectively. The preprocedural CT findings, diagnostic yield, sensitivity, specificity, PPV, NPV, technical success rate, and adverse events were analyzed. Surgical or clinical diagnosis with follow-up was the diagnostic reference standard. Adverse events were evaluated using the Society of Interventional Radiology guidelines.

The median anteroposterior (AP) diameter and CT value of the target lesion were 24mm (range 5-78) and 46 HU (range -75 to 140), respectively. Epacadostat Ascites was interposed on the puncture route in 106 patients (34.1%). The technical success rate was 100%. The diagnostic yield, sensitivity, specificity, PPV, and NPV were 93.9%, 93.8%, 100%, 100%, and 20.8%, respectively. Minor complications were observed following five procedures (1.6%). The diagnostic yield was lower for fat-dominant lesions than for other lesions (82.6% vs. 95.8%, p = 0.002). The diagnostic PNB group had a greater AP diameter than did the non-diagnostic PNB group (27.3 ± 13.0 vs. 20.7 ± 8.4mm, p = 0.037).

The aims of the study were (i) to examine the PCa detection rate of 18F-choline (FCH) PET/MRI and (ii) to assess the impact of PET/MRI findings in patients with PCa who develop OMD using PSA response as a biomarker.

We retrospectively analyzed a cohort of 103 patients undergoing FCH PET/MRI for biochemical recurrence of PCa. The inclusion criteria were (1) previous radical prostatectomy (RP) with or without adjuvant radiotherapy (RT); (2) PSA levels available at the time of PET; (3) OMD, defined as a maximum of 5 lesions on PET/MRI; and (4) follow-up data available for at least 6 months after PET. All images were reviewed by two nuclear medicine physicians and interpreted with the support of two radiologists.

Seventy patients were eligible for the study 52 patients had a positive FCH PET/MRI and 18 had a negative scan. The overall PCa detection rates for MRI, PET, and PET/MRI were 65.7%, 37.1%, and 74.3%, respectively. Thirty-five patients were treated with radiotherapy (RT), 16 received hormonal therapy (HT), 3 had a combined therapy (RT + HT), and 16 (23%) underwent PSA surveillance. At follow-up, PSA levels decreased in 51 patients (73%), most of whom had been treated with RT or RT + HT. Therapeutic management was guided by PET/MRI in 74% of patients, which performed better than MRI alone (68% of patients).

Infectious involvement of the spleen can be primary or secondary to a different source outside the spleen. Despite the fact that different infectious diseases may cause similar imaging findings, we believe that differential diagnosis between different causes may also be possible in certain patients with imaging. In this review, we aimed to increase imaging specialists' awareness of splenic infections by describing the multimodality imaging features of common and atypical infections of the spleen with their differential diagnoses.Listeriosis, a foodborne illness caused by Listeria monocytogenes , has relatively low incidence, but a substantial mortality rate, particularly in immunocompromised populations. Because of the known risk of L. monocytogenes and other pathogens in produce, immunocompromised individuals are often placed on neutropenic diets that exclude fresh produce. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate several kitchen-scale treatments as potential interventions to reduce L. monocytogenes in prepared produce. Cucumbers, apples, and celery were dip inoculated with a three-strain cocktail of L. monocytogenes and dried for 24 h. Inoculated products were subjected to the following treatments as applicable commercial sanitizer soak (90 s, with agitation), tap water rinse (15 s), tap water soak (90 s, with agitation), surface blanching (25 s), tap water rinse (15 s) followed by peeling, and surface blanching (25 s) followed by peeling. Additionally, inoculum uptake in celery and the impact of two different types of peelers (mechanical crank and manual) were assessed. Treated samples were plated on differential media and incubated for 48 h at 37°C. L. monocytogenes populations were then enumerated and compared to the untreated control (log CFU/g). All treatments lacked efficacy for celery, with reductions significantly less ( P 0.05). Surface blanching and surface blanching followed by peeling were the most effective treatments in both cucumbers and apples ( P less then 0.05), with average reductions of 4.2 to 5.1 and 3.5 to 5.9 log CFU/g, respectively.Salmonella is a common cause of foodborne illness in the U.S. and often is attributed to chicken products. Previous studies have associated Salmonella contamination with meat processing facility characteristics such as the number of establishment employees (i.e., HACCP size). An evaluation of risk factors for Salmonella contamination in U.S. poultry has not been performed since implementation of the New Poultry Inspection System (NPIS) in 2014. The goal of this study was to determine if risk factors for Salmonella contamination changed following implementation of NPIS. Presence/absence of Salmonella in whole chicken carcasses was modeled using microbiological testing data collected from 203 poultry processing establishments by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA-FSIS) between May 2015 and December 2019. A model was fit using generalized estimating equations for weekly presence/absence of Salmonella with production volume, geographic location, and season included as potential covariates, among other establishment demographics.
