In conventional medication formulation approach, it is difficult to breach the transdermal layer of a skin membrane for topical drugs, i.e. cyclosporine, methotrexate. Intending to assure better drug delivery carriers, this review emphasizes the therapeutic efficacy of polymers and their potential to deliver the drug into the deeper layer of the skin membrane. The polymers are essential in structural and physiochemical perspectives as it works as a carrier for the medication. A vast variety of delivery carriers is available nowadays but their applicability in such dermal cases like psoriasis is still lacking due to less knowledge on an appropriate polymer. The current investigation of suitable polymer would assist in brushing our expertise to optimize the advantages of a wide spectrum of polymers to fulfill the topical targeting of psoriasis.
Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) has been clinically demonstrated to be an effective treatment for actinic keratosis (AK) in a number of case series. In this study, we evaluated the efficacy of CAP in the treatment of multiple AKs and assessed morphological changes induced on the skin field of cancerization both clinically and by high-frequency ultrasound (HFUS).

Patients with multiple grade I-II AKs of the scalp and/or face who were resistant or intolerant to conventional field-directed treatments were enrolled. CAP treatments were performed using a microwave-driven argon plasma jet. At baseline and 3 months after the last CAP session, performance indexes were determined using three-dimensional digital pictures and HFUS investigations were performed on a representative Olsen grade II AK and a small spot of clinically unaffected skin within the test area.

Twelve patients were enrolled in the study. All clinical variables showed a statistically significant reduction after CAP. HFUS evaluation revealed that the total, epidermal and dermal thicknesses of the target AKs had not changed with treatment. CAP therapy significantly increased dermal density in both the target AK and the surrounding photodamaged skin and signficantly decreased the thickness of the subepidermal low-echogenic band in the perilesional skin, which is an ultrasound sign of photodamage.

Narrow-band ultraviolet B (NB-UVB) phototherapy has been used for the treatment of chronic urticaria (CU), but the clinical efficacy of this treatment modality requires further evidence. ISO-1 purchase A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials were conducted to evaluate the efficacy and safety of NB-UVB as add-on therapy in the treatment of CU.

A literature search was conducted in the Cochrane, Embase, PubMed, Web of Science, CNKI, CBM, VIP and WanFang databases up to October 2020. A total of nine studies involving 713 participants met the inclusion criteria.

Two trials showed a significant difference in the Urticaria Activity Score between therapy with NB-UVB + antihistamines and that with antihistamines alone (mean difference 8.23, 95% confidence interval [CI] 5.78-10.68, p < 0.00001). Six trials (563 participants) showed a significant benefit of NB-UVB as add-on therapy to antihistamines in the total effective rate (risk ratio [RR] 1.56, 95% CI 1.39-1.75, p < 0.00001). In terms of adverse events, no statistically significant differences were found for NB-UVB + antihistamines versus antihistamines alone (RR 1.10, 95% CI 0.67-1.79, p = 0.71). Combination therapy of NB-UVB + antihistamines yielded a significantly lower risk of recurrence (RR 0.25, 95% CI 0.14-0.44, p < 0.00001).
