Dear Editor, BIOMAP (BIOMarkers in Atopic dermatitis and Psoriasis) is a large European consortium aiming to advance personalised medicine for atopic dermatitis and psoriasis by identifying biomarkers which predict therapeutic response and disease progression. BIOMAP brings together clinicians, researchers, patient organisations and pharmaceutical industry partners and encompasses data from over 60 individual studies, including randomised clinical trials, population-based cohorts and deeply-phenotyped disease registries. The curation and harmonisation of data and bio-samples from these established studies will facilitate cross-cohort clinical and molecular analyses, increasing the potential to identify small effect estimates and to better stratify disease subtypes. This letter serves to disseminate BIOMAP's pathway to data harmonisation and will inform future collaborative research endeavours.
Epilepsy is one of the world's most prevalent noncommunicable diseases and tends to have a chronic course, often with comorbid psychiatric disorders, of which depressive disorders (DDs) and anxiety disorders (ADs) are the most common.

As anxiety and depressive disorders are underdiagnosed and so undertreated in people with epilepsy (PWE), this could have implications for the course of both of these medical conditions and the response to treatment and health outcomes. Thus it is crucial to perform screening for psychiatric disorders in populations with epilepsy using specific psychometric screening instruments optimised for that group of patients. Polish versions of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HRSD), the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS), the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and the Neurological Disorders Depression Inventory for Epilepsy (NDDI-E) were validated against 'gold standards' in a Polish population with epilepsy.

Using well-validated screening instruments that can be easily implemented in a clinical setting may contribute to better diagnosis, and consequently treatment, of comorbid psychiatric disorders, which would have a great impact on the course and prognosis of epilepsy management.

Based on the outcomes of Polish studies aimed at validating psychometric instruments for screening for mood and anxiety disorders, HADS is recommended as a first-choice screening tool.

The pandemic has had a severe impact on oncology care and research. Patients with underlying cancer are more vulnerable to contracting COVID-19, and also have a more severe clinical course following the infection. The rollout of COVID-19 vaccines in many parts of the world has raised hopes of controlling the pandemic. In this editorial, the authors outline key characteristics of the currently approved COVID-19 vaccines, provide a brief overview of key emerging issues such as vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia and SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern, and review the available data related to the efficacy and side effects of vaccinating patients with cancer.Being one of Freud's most famous contributions to psychoanalysis, the Oedipus complex is still a topic of heated interest. It has been disputed in many different disciplines ranging from anthropology to biology. This theoretical paper aimed to explain the phenomena that are represented by children's affectionate and assertive attitudes towards their parents, named as the Oedipus complex by some, in terms of parent-offspring conflict, sibling competition, and infanticide. All of these evolutionary biological concepts or their combination could conceive specific relational settings similar to those emerging in the Oedipus complex. Psychoanalysis surely acknowledges the effects of parent-offspring conflict or sibling dynamics on familial relations and character formation. Nevertheless, they have been generally overshadowed by other primary theoretical concepts. Considering the findings from evolutionary biology and developmental psychology, it was asserted that parent-offspring conflict and sibling dynamics must be included in the conceptualization of oedipal-like behaviors. In light of these hypotheses, related literature and suggestions for further studies were discussed.Among components of the consumer's perception of tomato fruit quality, texture is one of the most critical, being formed of a number of attributes that are difficult to evaluate and which change during fruit ripening and storage. The present work relates different textural parameters measured in a collection of traditional tomatoes from Madrid with the appreciation collected from consumer opinions. Texture traits were highly variable in studied tomatoes; they had strong environmental influence and they differed among genotypes. Great intrapopulational variability has been also detected, probably due to the heterogeneity of its fruit tissues and the intrapopulational diversity of studied landraces. Textural behavior of tomatoes affected the level of consumer appreciation. In general, consumers preferred firm fruits with soft skin, due to their low level of springiness and resilience. However, different taster groups have demonstrate how diversity appears to be necessary to satisfy different types of consumers. Among the three groups of consumers which have been identified in this study, the majority (83% of them) preferred local tomato varieties. In addition, heirloom tomatoes presented softer skins than the commercial hybrid reference (values of 0.29 ± 0.19 vs. 0.49 ± 0.12 kg regarding skin rupture force). That circumstance, which is involved in the post-harvest behavior, must be further considered in storage and commercialization.Microscopic examination results in patients with filariasis are often not identified by the presence of microfilaria, so it needs to be checked by Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). One PCR method uses High-Resolution Melting (HRM). Selleck Caspofungin The purpose of this study was to compare qPCR-HRM with microscopic examination methods to determine the types of microfilaria found in patients with filariasis. 19 samples were examined using a microscopic method and qPCR-HRM. The results of microscopic examination found no type of microfilaria and in qPCR-HRM identified B.malayi and W.bancrofti with peak temperature melting 78.1-78.7 ℃ and 80.2-80.8 ℃. The results of the study based on the comparison of two methods show that the types of microfilaria W.bancrofti and B.malayi can be found using qPCR-HRM.
