The rapid development of promising therapeutic strategies against COVID-19 is keenly anticipated. Family Coronaviridae comprises positive, single-stranded RNA viruses that use RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRP) for viral replication and transcription. As the RdRP of viruses in this family and others plays a pivotal role in infection, it is a promising therapeutic target for developing antiviral agents against them. A critical genetic driver for many cancers is the catalytic subunit of telomerase human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT), identified initially as an RNA-dependent DNA polymerase. selleck products However, even though hTERT is a DNA polymerase, it has phylogenetic and structural similarities to viral RdRPs. Whether the understanding of dental caries influences how future dentists manage the disease themselves has not been previously studied. Thus, this study evaluated whether the conceptualization (understanding) of dental caries by dental students is related to their own preventive oral care routine.
Dental students at a U.S. dental school (n=517) were invited to voluntarily respond to an anonymous electronic survey in spring 2018. Demographic characteristics, caries conceptualization (CC), dental care habits, and self-caries risk determination were asked. Discursive responses to CC were analyzed by content analysis technique, and categories [c] were created. Chi-square and Fisher's exact tests were used for analysis.
Overall response rate was 54.5% (n=282, 48.2% female). Three researchers independently analyzed discursive answers and classified them into 1 of 6 caries concept categories [c] [c1] only signs of the disease (10.3%), [c2] bacterial disease-not specifying bacterial metabolism (38.3%), [c3] bacterial byproducts-not specifying substrate (13.8%), [c4] biological or multifactorial concept (24.8%), [c5] comprehensive multifactorial disease (8.2%), or [c6] other (4.6%). Only 33% completely defined dental caries according to the modern understanding of the disease (c4-c5). Statistical differences were found between CC and diet modification, CC and rinsing after brushing, year of school (YS) and self-determined caries-risk, YS and brushing at school, and YS and rinsing after brushing (P<0.05).
Our data suggest that the students' understanding of the disease can influence how they will manage the disease in terms of diet modification and behavior after brushing. Moreover, self-caries risk determination influenced students' brushing behavior.

Retinal vascular occlusion is a leading cause of sight loss. Both retinal artery occlusion (RAO) and retinal vein occlusion (RVO) have been associated with hypercoagulable states; however, the burden of thrombophilia in these patients is unclear.
This study aims at estimating the prevalence of inherited and acquired thrombophilias in adults with RAO or RVO through a systematic review and meta-analysis of the literature.
PubMed and EMBASE were systematically searched from inception to 29 February 2020. All studies reporting prevalences of factor V Leiden (FVL) and prothrombin (F-II) G20210A mutations, methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) C677T and plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI) 4G polymorphisms, antithrombin III (AT-III), protein C (PC) and protein S (PS) activity deficiencies, hyperhomocysteinemia, and antiphospholipid (APL) antibodies in adults with RAO or RVO were included. Pooled prevalences and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated.
Ninety-five studies were included; FVL and F-II mutations were found in 6% (95% CI 5-8) and 3% (95% CI 2-4) of individuals with RVO, respectively, whereas AT-III, PC, and PS activity deficiencies were found in <2%. The MTHFR C677T and PAI 4G homozygous polymorphism were observed in 13% (95% CI 10-17) and 23% (95% CI 16-31) of RVO, respectively; 8% presented APL antibodies. Similar findings were observed in individuals with RAO.
Compared with healthy subjects, patients with retinal vascular occlusion showed similar prevalences of inherited and acquired thrombophilias. These findings do not support routine thrombophilia screening in individuals with RAO or RVO.

To assess the impacts of burnout and job satisfaction on the rationing of care in the professional group of nurses.
The shortage of nursing staff is currently one of the most significant health care problems. It is not clear how burnout and job satisfaction affect the rationing of nursing care.
We included 594 nurses, and we used the Basel Extent of Rationing of Nursing Care-R (BERNCA-R), the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) and the Job Satisfaction Scale (JSS).
The average scores were 1.72±0.87 points for the BERNCA-R, 36.08±21.25 for the MBI and 19.74±5.57 for the JSS. A statistically significant positive correlation between the BERNCA-R and the MBI (p<.05) and a negative correlation between the BERNCA-R and the JSS (p<.05) were observed. Independent predictors of the BERNCA-R were the result of emotional exhaustion of the MBI and the assessment of the impact of independence on job satisfaction (p<.05).
Occupational burnout can decrease job satisfaction in nursing staff and result in adverse outcomes of rationing care.
