Sleep quality in patients with schizophrenia is correlated with potential violence. However, few studies have conducted in-depth discussions on community patients with schizophrenia. The purpose of this study was to explore the influences of demographic characteristics, psychiatric symptom severity, and sleep quality in community patients with schizophrenia on the risks of potential violence and its subdimensions (ie, physical aggression, verbal aggression, anger, and hostility).

This study adopted a cross-sectional research design. Using convenience sampling, 78 community patients with schizophrenia were recruited from psychiatric outpatient clinics, day wards, and those who received home-care services.

This study discovered that sleep quality is a crucial factor that influences the risks of potential violence. Analysis on the subdimensions revealed that having a violence history during the preceding month and sleep quality are crucial factors that influence physical aggression. In addition, sleep quality is a crucial factor that influences the occurrence of anger. Age and sleep quality substantially influence hostility. However, this study did not identify any crucial factors that influenced verbal aggression.

In the future, community nursing professionals should collect data on the patients' age, whether the patients exhibited violence behavior during the preceding month, and their sleep quality to prevent risks of potential violence, physical aggression, anger, or hostility.

Brain connectivity changes occurring during PNES are not known. We studied functional connectivity (Fc) in two patients with drug-resistant epilepsy, explored by stereotactic electroencephalography (EEG), in whom we recorded both epileptic seizures (ES) and PNES. Functional connectivity using pair-wise nonlinear correlation was computed between signals from seven brain areas amygdala, hippocampus, lateral temporal cortex, anterior insula, orbitofrontal cortex, prefrontal cortex, and lateral parietal cortex. We assessed changes in global Fc during PNES in comparison with a background period. During PNES, a global decrease of Fc occurred between the different brain regions studied, compared with the interictal period. In both patients, decreased Fc was prominent in connections involving the anterior insula and parietal cortex. In conclusion, some PNES are associated with ictal functional disconnection between brain areas, particularly involving the parietal cortices and the anterior insula.

Approximately 30% of people with epilepsy do not respond to treatment with currently available drugs. The majority of these people have focal epilepsy. Vigabatrin is an antiepileptic drug licensed for use in drug-resistant epilepsy.

To assess the efficacy and tolerability of vigabatrin as an add-on therapy for people with drug-resistant focal epilepsy.

This study used a pretest-posttest control group quasi-experimental research design. Data were collected from 130 students using questionnaire form, sexual health knowledge test (SHKT), and sexual myths form (SMF).

There was a significant negative relationship between the pretest scores of students that they obtained from SHKT and SMF (P < .01) and their posttest scores from the same test and form (P < .05).
