Cocaine is the second most frequently used illicit drug worldwide (after cannabis), and cocaine use disorder (CUD) related deaths increased globally by 80% from 1990 to 2013. There is yet to be a regulatory-approved treatment. Emerging preclinical evidence indicates that deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the nucleus accumbens may be a therapeutic option. Prior to expanding the costly investigation of DBS for treatment of CUD, it is important to ensure societal cost-effectiveness.

We conducted a threshold and cost-effectiveness analysis to determine the success rate at which DBS would be equivalent to contingency management (CM), recently identified as the most efficacious therapy for treatments of CUDs.

Quality of life, efficacy, and safety parameters for CM were obtained from previous literature. Costs were calculated from a societal perspective. Our model predicted the utility benefit based on quality-adjusted-life-years (QALYs) and incremental-cost-effectiveness-ratio resulting from two treatments on antrolled trials should be performed to assess its efficacy.
To compare effects of cold therapy on patient pain score during and after amniocentesis procedure.

We performed a prospective randomized-controlled study comparing the anticipated pain, perceived pain during the procedure, and pain after 15 and 30 min of amniocentesis between pregnant women receiving cold therapy before (group 1), after (group 2), and both before and after amniocentesis (group 3) with a control group (group 4). Pain was measured using a visual analog scale (VAS) score.

A total of 480 participants were recruited and randomly assigned into four groups of 120 each. Anticipated pain scores in all groups were not statistically different. When compared with group 4, groups 1 and 3 experienced significant pain reduction during amniocentesis, while VAS scores at 15 and 30 min after amniocentesis in groups 1-3 were significantly lower as compared to group 4.

Cold therapy both before and after amniocentesis procedure is most effective in pain reduction. It encourages the pregnant woman's cooperation during the procedure and provides a good amniocentesis experience. Application of cold compression is also beneficial in other aspects as it is simple, safe, convenient, and yet reusable and economically efficient for routine use in all pregnant women undergoing amniocentesis.

This review discusses various oral manifestations of Covid-19 reported in the literature along with possible underlying mechanisms. The reported manifestations include taste impairment, oral mucosal changes (petechiae, ulcers, plaque-like lesions, reactivation of herpes simplex virus 1(HSV1), geographical tongue and desquamative gingivitis) and dry mouth. The prominent location for mucosal lesions are tongue, palate and labial mucosa. The exact pathogenesis of these oral symptoms is not known. Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) cell receptors are expressed in abundance on oral mucosa allowing severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) to infect them. Gustatory impairment along with olfactory changes is now listed as a symptom of Covid-19 by the World Health Organization, but further research is needed to confirm a link between reported additional oral symptoms and Covid-19. Dental professionals may encounter individuals with Covid-19 and be called upon to identify various oral manifestations of this disease.
We explored the feasibility of a long-term but low-frequency psychological preventive intervention in a high school setting.

High school students may experience depression; psychological interventions to improve social and cognitive skills may be useful to decrease such depression. We conducted a psychological preventive intervention with 94 high school students in one school for 2 years (April 2014 to March 2016). This intervention aimed to improve social and cognitive skills. We measured social skills, cognitive distortion, and depression five times during the 2-year period, through a self-report scale.

The predictive accuracy of frozen sections for borderline ovarian tumors (BOTs) is suboptimal. The aim of this study was to determine the diagnostic accuracy of BOTs and factors associated with an upgrade to a permanent pathological diagnosis of invasive carcinoma in patients diagnosed with BOTs by frozen section.

We conducted a retrospective study between 2011 and 2018 at Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (KCGMH). Two hundred and twenty-five records of eligible patients with a diagnosis of BOT by frozen section or permanent diagnosis were reviewed. Positive predictive value and the diagnostic accuracy of frozen sections were calculated. Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to determine the clinicopathological factors associated with an upgrade of the diagnosis from a borderline tumor to malignancy.

The agreement between frozen section and permanent pathological diagnoses was 63.1%, and the positive predictive value was 72.1%. The multivariate analysis revealed that CA-125 level > 136 U/mL (odds ratio [OR]=2.
