As aresponse to the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic, extensive contact restrictions were imposed by law in Germany as in other European countries. The present study intends to clarify the effect of these restrictions on emergency medical service (EMS) operations.
Retrospective chart review of EMS operation protocols over the first 6months of 2020 (
= 6668 rescue missions) in four rescue stations in eastern Lower Saxony (Germany). Description and statistical comparison of operations 6weeks before the restrictions with an equally long period after the order of the restrictions ("lockdown").
During the 6weeks after the lockdown the frequency of rescue operations decreased by 17.7%. In particular, there was a40.6% (
= 91) decrease of emergency cases with respiratory diseases, mainly due to adecline of pneumonia and exacerbated chronic-obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). At G418 clinical trial , patients' mean age increased with fewer patients under 65years. There were no ss severe cases and in younger patients. The reduction in pneumonia and COPD cases is striking. On the one hand, this could indicate that contact restrictions reduce the incidence of other respiratory infections and their impact on chronic respiratory disorders, but it could also mean that patients try to avoid hospital treatment.Due to the convenience of access-on-demand to information and business solutions, mobile apps have become an important asset in the digital world. In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, app developers have joined the response effort in various ways by releasing apps that target different user bases (e.g., all citizens or journalists), offer different services (e.g., location tracking or diagnostic-aid), provide generic or specialized information, etc. While many apps have raised some concerns by spreading misinformation or even malware, the literature does not yet provide a clear landscape of the different apps that were developed. In this study, we focus on the Android ecosystem and investigate Covid-related Android apps. In a best-effort scenario, we attempt to systematically identify all relevant apps and study their characteristics with the objective to provide a first taxonomy of Covid-related apps, broadening the relevance beyond the implementation of contact tracing. Overall, our study yields a number of empirical insights that contribute to enlarge the knowledge on Covid-related apps (1) Developer communities contributed rapidly to the COVID-19, with dedicated apps released as early as January 2020; (2) Covid-related apps deliver digital tools to users (e.g., health diaries), serve to broadcast information to users (e.g., spread statistics), and collect data from users (e.g., for tracing); (3) Covid-related apps are less complex than standard apps; (4) they generally do not seem to leak sensitive data; (5) in the majority of cases, Covid-related apps are released by entities with past experience on the market, mostly official government entities or public health organizations.Protein C deficiency increases the risk of an individual to develop thromboembolism and its complications. Clinical presentation of the complication of thrombosis in an unusual site may becloud clinical judgment resulting in missed diagnosis. We present an unusual case of protein C deficiency presenting with symptoms referable to the gastrointestinal system. A 34-year-old male with recurrent abdominal discomfort and bloating, managed as a case of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease with poor clinical outcome. Physical examination was unremarkable. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy showed varices. Abdominal ultrasound scan and CT scan of the abdomen revealed thrombus in the portal vein. Functional assays of protein C and S revealed reduce protein C activity at 65 % (70 - 140%). This case emphasizes the need for extensive investigations in patients with common, sometimes neglected abdominal symptom such as bloating. It has also contributed in expanding the differential diagnosis of bloating and manifestations of protein C deficiency.The purpose of the study is to develop and test the original model which illustrates the development of personality in the information society. The study involved two Russian universities, higher educational institutions of the Arab Emirates and Kazakhstan. A total of 400 students participated in the research. The experiment consisted of three stages introductory, experimental, and final. At the introductory stage of the study, the influences of the information society on the development of human personal qualities were analyzed. At the experimental stage, the original model which illustrates the development of personality in the information society was developed and implemented. At the final stage, the students were surveyed in accordance with the original methodology for the use of the capabilities and resources of the information society for personality development. After the implementation of the model, the number of students using the capabilities of the information society for personal development, the development of professional skills, and maintaining and strengthening health increased by 18.5%, 18.7%, and 10%, respectively. The practical value of the scientific research results relates to the possibility of using the questionnaires and models of personality development in the context of the information society in the higher education system of Russia, the Arab Emirates, Kazakhstan, and other countries. The model described in the study is relevant in the context of the transfer of the educational process in higher education to a distance format and the growing social isolation of an individual caused by the coronavirus pandemic.The aim of the study is to identify the factors affecting students' satisfaction and performance regarding online classes during the pandemic period of COVID-19 and to establish the relationship between these variables. The study is quantitative in nature, and the data were collected from 544 respondents through online survey who were studying the business management (B.B.A or M.B.A) or hotel management courses in Indian universities. Structural equation modeling was used to analyze the proposed hypotheses. #link# The results show that four independent factors used in the study viz. quality of instructor, course design, prompt feedback, and expectation of students positively impact students' satisfaction and further student's satisfaction positively impact students' performance. For educational management, these four factors are essential to have a high level of satisfaction and performance for online courses. This study is being conducted during the epidemic period of COVID- 19 to check the effect of online teaching on students' performance.
