Patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) are at high risk for celiac disease (CD) due to the common genetic background and interaction between environmental and immunological factors. The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to estimate the prevalence of CD among Iranian patients with type 1 diabetes. The search for articles was conducted using the following keywords "celiac disease," "celiac," "coeliac disease," "diabetes," "Iran," and all other possible combinations of these terms. The following databases were searched from inception to June 2019 Scientific Information Database (SID), MagIran, Web of Science, PubMed, and Scopus. Meta-analysis was performed using the random-effects models, and the heterogeneity of results across the studies was assessed using the Cochran's Q test and quantified by the I2 statistic. Data analysis was performed by Stata version 14. A total of 14 papers were included in the meta-analysis, involving 2030 Iranian patients with T1DM. The pooled prevalence of CD in patients with T1DM was 5% (95% CI 3-7). The prevalence of CD in Tehran (4%; 95% CI 1-6) was lower than in other provinces of the country (6%; 95% CI 4-8). https://www.selleckchem.com/products/monocrotaline.html Meta-regression analysis showed that, with increasing sample size, the prevalence of CD was significantly reduced (p = 0.018).Given the adverse effects of CD , such as osteoporosis and malignancy (especially lymphoma), patients with T1DM must be screened for CD .Heavy metals discharge at an unrestrained rate from various industries into the environment pose serious human health problems. Considering this, the present study aimed at exploring the metal biosorbing potentials of bacterial strains recovered from polluted soils. The bacterial strains (CPSB1, BM2 and CAZ3) belonging to genera Pseudomonas, Bacillus and Azotobacter expressing multi-metal tolerance ability were identified to species level as P. aeruginosa, B. subtilis and A. chroococcum, respectively, by 16S rRNA partial gene sequence analysis. The biosorption of cadmium, chromium, copper, nickel, lead and zinc by three dead bacterial genera were studied as a function of metal concentration, variable pH of the medium and reaction (contact) time. The three bacterial strains exhibited a tremendous metal removal ability which continued even at the highest tested concentration of some metals. Later, a decline in the percentage of biosorbed metals was recorded as the metal concentration was increased with the simuanding fit to the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. The biosorptive ability of three bacterial genera correlated strongly (r2 > 0.9) with each metal. The bacteria belonging to two Gram-negative genera Pseudomonas (P. aeruginosa) and Azotobacter (A. chroococcum) and one Gram-positive genus Bacillus (B. subtilis) demonstrated exceptional metal removal efficiency and, hence, provides a comprehensive understanding of metal-bacteria sorption process which in effect paves the way for detoxifying/removing metals from contaminated environment. The existing drought monitoring mechanisms in the sub-Saharan Africa region mostly depend on the conventional methods of drought monitoring. These methods have limitations based on timeliness, objectivity, reliability, and adequacy. This study aims to identify the spread and frequency of drought in Nigeria using Remote Sensing/Geographic Information Systems techniques to determine the areas that are at risk of drought events within the country. The study further develops a web-GIS application platform that provides drought early warning signals. Monthly NOAA-AVHRR Pathfinder NDVI images of 1 km by 1 km spatial resolution and MODIS with a spatial resolution of 500 m by 500 m were used in this study together with rainfall data from 25 synoptic stations covering 32 years. The spatio-temporal variation of drought showed that drought occurred at different times of the year in all parts of the country with the highest drought risk in the north-eastern parts. The map view showed that the high drought risk covered 5.98% (55,312 km2) of the country's landmass, while low drought risk covered 42.4% (391,881 km2) and very low drought risk areas 51.5% (476,578 km2). Results revealed that a strong relationship exists between annual rainfall and season-integrated NDVI (r2 = 0.6). Based on the spatio-temporal distribution and frequency of droughts in Nigeria, drought monitoring using remote sensing techniques of VCI and NDVI could play an invaluable role in food security and drought preparedness. The map view from the web-based drought monitoring system, developed in this study, is accessible through localhost.Although it is estimated that COVID-19 life-threatening conditions may be diagnosed in less than 11000 infected individuals below the age of 50, but the real impact of this pandemic on pediatric patients with different types of primary immunodeficiency (PID) is not elucidated. The current prospective study on a national registry of PID patients showed that with only 1.23 folds higher incidence of infections, these patients present a 10-folds higher mortality rate compared to population mainly in patients with combined immunodeficiency and immune dysregulation. Therefore, further management modalities against COVID-19 should be considered to improve the survival rate in these two PID entities using hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and immunomodulatory agents. To reduce potentially inappropriate medications, the FORTA (Fit fOR The Aged) concept classifies drugs in terms of their suitability for geriatric patients with different labels, namely A (indispensable), B (beneficial), C (questionable), and D (avoid). The aims of our study were to assess the medication appropriateness in PD inpatients applying the FORTA list and drug-drug interaction software, further to assess the adequacy of FORTA list for patients with PD. We retrospectively collected demographic data, comorbidities, laboratory values, and the medication from the discharge letters of 123 geriatric inpatients with PD at the university hospital of Hannover Medical School. Patients suffered on average from 8.2 comorbidities. The majority of the medication was labeled A (60.6% of PD-specific and 40.9% of other medication) or B (22.3% of PD-specific and 26.9% of other medication). Administered drugs labeled with D were amantadine, clozapine, oxazepam, lorazepam, amitriptyline, and clonidine. Overall, 545 interactions were identified, thereof 11.
