Germany serves as a significant hub for inline skater hockey, a sport stemming from the traditional ice hockey game, with participation from roughly 6000 athletes. The differences between ice hockey and inline skating hockey lead to a distinct risk profile for players. Concerning injuries, training regimens, course content, and sporting apparatus, the research subjects responded to an anonymized 83-item multiple-choice questionnaire. A response from 178 athletes yielded 116 analyzable questionnaires, comprising 100 male, 8 female, and 8 incomplete records, along with 16 goalies, 55 forwards, and 44 defenders. The overall injury rate was 3698 per 1000 hours of activity. In the context of minor injuries, leg injuries (94 per 1000 hours), characterized by wounds, bruises, and blunt muscle trauma, and arm injuries (72 per 1000 hours), were the most frequent types observed. The foot (24 occurrences per 1000 hours, n=147), head (19 per 1000 hours, n=140), and knee (17 per 1000 hours, n=126), experienced the highest rate of injuries, categorized as fractures, dislocations, and ligamentous injuries. The 76 fractures analyzed; 48 (632%) arose from direct or indirect body collisions. Goalkeepers encountered a disproportionately higher number of knee injuries in comparison to field players, whereas field players sustained a greater frequency of shoulder injuries. Head injuries, consisting of fractures, dental injuries, and traumatic brain injuries, occurred with significantly greater frequency in players without protective face gear (30 per 1000 hours of play) compared to players wearing such gear (18 per 1000 hours). A survey of Austrian soccer coaches, encompassing those working with professional, amateur, and youth teams, was conducted to examine their views on injuries and associated preventative measures.
An online questionnaire, specifically for coaches registered with the Austrian Football Association, not only collected personal data but also surveyed their views on injury prevention strategies. Trainers were also questioned regarding the preventive measures they considered essential and practiced in their training, and the extent to which they were applied.
A total of six hundred and eighty-seven trainers engaged in the survey. Amongst the trainer population, 23% were engaged with professional clubs, 375% with amateur clubs, and 436% with youth clubs. In response to the rest, there was no reply. A substantial proportion of respondents, 56%, identified injuries as a significant concern within the sport of soccer. Inadequate fitness (757%), insufficient preparation (607%), and poor regeneration (592%) were found to significantly correlate with injuries. Core stabilization training (582%), alongside regeneration (594%) and appropriate warm-up (668%), were identified as the top preventative measures. A significant portion, exceeding 50%, of participants lacked familiarity with widely used injury prevention programs, while a mere 154% of them integrated these programs into their training regimen. Despite a considerable interest in injury prevention, Austrian coaches exhibit a noticeably inadequate understanding of the relevant standards. Because of the high number of injuries, it is essential to provide trainers with knowledge of injury prevention programs and how to effectively integrate them into training routines.
