This study aimed to evaluate the hydrochemistry of the water resources of the Weibei Plain, Northern China, as well as the risks posed by high groundwater nitrate concentrations to human health. Groundwater and surface water samples numbering 168 and 14, respectively, were collected during the dry and wet seasons. Water in the study area was weakly alkaline, falling into a hard-fresh or hard-brackish category. The groundwater chemical types were mainly SO4·Cl-Ca·Mg (59.5%) and HCO3-Ca·Mg (28.6%), whereas the dominant chemistry type of surface water was SO4·Cl-Na (78.6%). Groundwater showed relatively high concentrations of NO3-, with average dry and wet season concentrations of 212 mg·L-1 and 223 mg·L-1, respectively, whereas surface water had a low NO3- content. The major processes affecting water chemistry were determined to be rock weathering, such as silicate weathering and evaporative dissolution, as well as cation exchange. NO3- in groundwater was found to mainly originate from anthropogenic inputs such as agricultural production and domestic sewage. The entropy-weight water quality index (EWQI) assessment showed that although the quality of surface water was generally good, more than half of the groundwater samples failed drinking water standards, with NO3- identified as being the most problematic parameter affecting the water quality evaluation. Risk assessment of high groundwater nitrate concentrations indicated that long-term domestic use of groundwater in the study area can put the health of residents at great risk. Totals of 81% and 75% of the groundwater samples exceeded the acceptable limit for non-carcinogenic risk (HI = 1) to infants during the dry and wet seasons, respectively, whereas 75% and 71.3% of samples exceeded the acceptable limit for children, respectively. Future management of water in the Weibei Plain should prioritize the control groundwater nitrate pollution.Spores of the genus Bacillus are molecules capable of increasing the vaccine adjuvanticity. Bovine herpesvirus type 5 (BoHV-5) is responsible for meningoencephalitis that causes important economic losses in cattle. BoHV-5 glycoprotein D (gD) is a target of vaccine antigen and plays an important role in host cell penetration. The present study aimed to evaluate the adjuvanticity of Bacillus toyonensis (B.t) spores, live and heat-killed, associated with a vaccine formulated with aluminum hydroxide (alum) and the recombinant BoHV-5 glycoprotein D (rgD) in an experimental murine model. Six experimental groups of mice were subcutaneously vaccinated on day 0 and received a booster on day 21 of the experiment, with the following vaccine formulations rgD (40 µg) + live spores (2 × 109 CFU); rgD + killed spores; rgD + live spores + alum (2.0 mg); rgD + killed spores + alum; rgD + alum, and rgD + PBS. Mice from rgD + live spores group showed an increase in rgD IgG titers from the 21st day until the end of the experiment. The groups of live and killed spores, associated to alum, had similar levels of IgG titers with no significant difference between each other; however, by the 14th and 28th day until the end of the experiment, presented higher IgG titers in comparison to the rgD + alum group. Moreover, increased serum levels of IgG1, IgG2a, and IgG2b were detected in mice that received spores in the vaccine formulation. The spores associated with alum groups showed neutralizing BoHV-5 antibodies and high mRNA transcription of the cytokines IFN-γ (66-fold), IL-17 (14-fold), and IL-12 (2.8-fold). In conclusion, our data demonstrated that the B. toyonensis spores, live or killed, associated with alum increased the adjuvanticity for BoHV-5 rgD in mice, suggesting the use of B. toyonensis spores as a promising component for vaccine formulations.
Extraintestinal manifestations (EIMs) are frequent in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Our objective is to characterize and determine the prevalence of MEIs in our cohort of patients with IBD.

A retrospective study was carried out in adult patients with IBD at the Pablo Tobón Uribe Hospital in Medellín. Colombia. Articular MEIs, primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), both ophthalmological and dermatological, were considered. Absolute and relative frequencies were used. The Chi square test of independence was used to compare 2proportions and the odds ratio (OR) was estimated.

Our registry has 759 patients with IBD, 544 present UC (71.6%), 200 CD (26.3%) and 15 unclassifiable IBD (1.9%); 177 patients with IBD (23.3%) presented EIMs, 123 of 544 (22.6%) with UC and 53 of 200 (26.5%) with CD (OR 0.81, 95% CI 0.55-1.17, P=0.31). Regarding the type of EIMs, the articular ones were the most frequent (13.5%), more in CD than in UC (20.0 vs. 11.3%, OR 1.94, 95%CI 1.25-3.00, P=0.0037). Patients with IBD and EIMs used more antibodies against tumor necrosis factor (anti-TNFs), compared to those without EIMs (43.5 vs. 18.5%, OR 3.38, 95%CI 2.31-4.90, P=0.0001).

The prevalence of EIMs in our cohort is high (23.3%) and the most frequent type is joint. Anti-TNFs are most used when IBD and EIMs coexist. Our study provides valuable information on the association of EIMs and IBD in Latin America.

To investigate clinical and histopathological characteristics of Vietnamese patients with thymoma and myasthenia gravis (MG), and the outcomes of surgical management using video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) thymectomy.

A prospective study was carried out on 61 patients undergoing VATS thymectomy for MG class I, IIA with thymoma in the period from 10/2013 to 5/2019. The WHO histopathological classification, Masaoka's stages and MG grading using the guidelines of the Medical Scientific Advisory Board of the Myasthenia gravis foundation of America (MGFA) were used. All patients were followed up at 1 month, 6 months and over 1 year postoperatively.

The average patient age was 47.3±10.8 years (21-70). MS177 The female/male ratio was 0.91.80.3% of patients had MG class IIA. Most of the patients were at Masaoka's stage I and stage II (75.4%). Only 1 patient (1.7%) had highly malignant type B3 thymoma. Conversion to open surgery was required in 8 patients. The surgical time was 91.8±49.9min and blood loss was 37.
