Compared with typically developing control subjects, individuals with WS exhibited significantly greater amplitude of auditory evoked potentials (P1-N1-P2 complex) and modulations in evoked alpha (8-12 Hz) activity, reflective of sensory and attentional processes. Individuals with WS also exhibited markedly stable neural responses over the course of the experiment, and these responses were significantly more stable than those of control subjects.

A simple test described in 1975 by Pak et al allows for pathogenic classification of hypercalciuria the calcium load test (CLT). The CLT explores calcium homeostasis after a low-calcium diet and then a calcium load (typically oral administration of 1 g of elemental calcium). Only simple laboratory equipment is required. Inadequate calcium excretion after a calcium-free diet or a calcium load is suggestive of resorptive or absorptive hypercalciuria, respectively. The CLT is particularly valuable in diagnosing primary hyperparathyroidism, even in most early stages of this disease. PATIENT SUMMARY Kidney stone formation can be linked to calcium metabolism. When high calcium levels are found in urine despite adequate diet changes, a calcium load test may help to understand the underlying mechanisms. Urine and blood levels are explored during a low-calcium diet phase, and after a calcium load phase in the test. The calcium load test is particularly advantageous for revealing abnormally high function of the parathyroid gland, which is called hyperparathyroidism.
The gold standard treatment for solitary medium-sized (1-2 cm) renal stones is not defined by recent guidelines, since management modalities including shockwave lithotripsy (SWL), retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS), and percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PNL) are recommended. Improved ability to predict patient outcomes would aid in patients' counseling and decision-making.

Sexual health is becoming increasingly important for many HIV-positive men undergoing highly effective antiretroviral therapy (ART) but remains frequently unaddressed in routine clinical consultation.

To comprehensively evaluate sexual health in male patients with HIV on stable ART over a 12-month period.

The prospectively registered cohort study comprising 87 HIV-positive men on stable ART (median age 43years) was conducted between 2011 and 2015 at a university hospital. Patients were enrolled from the outpatient infectious disease unit and underwent an extensive andrological workup to assess parameters of sexual health (questionnaires, sex hormones, ultrasound, 2-glass urine test including semen analysis with microbiological and viral diagnostics). The study period per patient lasted 12months.

The primary endpoint was the impact of chronic HIV infection on sexual health.

Preclinical studies that have examined the effects of androgen deprivation therapies (ADTs) on sexual outcomes have either relied on a surgical castration model of ADTs or have largely focused on consummatory sexual behaviors.

The aim of this study was to examine the effects of a single administration of the gonadotropin-releasing hormone receptor antagonist, degarelix, on sexual incentive motivation (SIM), sexual reward, consummatory sexual behaviors, anxiety-like behavior, and androgen receptor signaling in male rats, and to determine if sexual stimulation attenuates the effects of degarelix on SIM.

Male rats were treated with degarelix, or vehicle, and half of the rats in each condition were briefly exposed to a sexually receptive female immediately before SIM trials (experiment 1). Rats treated with degarelix or vehicle were also given a sex-conditioned place preference test (experiment 2A), weekly mating tests (experiment 2B), and an elevated zero maze test (experiment 3). Androgen-sensitive tissues were excised upon completion of testing.
