With MRI-based anatomical assessment and subsequent voxel-based morphometry analyses, pre- and postoperative volume alterations in the primary motor cortex (MI), the primary somatosensory cortex (SI), the supplementary motor area (SMA), and the cerebellum were analyzed in 43 DCM patients and 20 controls. We assessed disease-related symptom severity by the modified Japanese Orthopaedic Association scale (mJOA). The study also explored symptom severity-based brain volume alterations as well as their association with clinical status. Patients had lower mJOA scores (p = .000) and lower GM volume than controls in SI (p = .016) and cerebellar regions (p = .001). Symptom severity-based subgroup analyses revealed volume reductions in almost all investigated GM ROIs (MI p = .001; CB p = .040; SMA p = .007) in patients with severe clinical symptoms as well as atrophy already present in patients with moderate symptom severity. Clinical symptoms in DCM were associated with cortical and cerebellar volume reduction. GM volume alterations may serve as an indicator of both disease severity and ongoing disease progression in DCM, and should be considered in further patient care and treatment monitoring.
The geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI), which is calculated using the serum albumin level and body mass index, is a nutritional marker associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular events in patients who are receiving hemodialysis. However, no studies have examined the association between the GNRI level and the incidence of stroke in this population.

Systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) has been recently investigated as a novel inflammatory and prognostic marker. SII may be used as an indicator reflecting the progressive inflammatory process in atherosclerosis, although its link to incident cardiovascular disease (CVD) has not been examined in previous studies. This study aims to prospectively assess the association of SII with incident CVD and its main subtypes in Chinese adults.

Using data from the Dongfeng-Tongji cohort study, 13,929 middle-aged and older adults with a mean age of 62.56 years (range 35-91 years), who were free of CVD and cancer, were included for analysis. The baseline study was conducted in Shiyan city, Hubei province from 2008 to 2009. The SII was calculated as platelet count (/L)×neutrophil count (/L)/lymphocyte count (/L). Cox regression models were used to examine the associations of SII with incident CVD, including stroke and coronary heart disease (CHD).

Over a median 8.28 years (maximum 8.98 years) of follow-up, 3386 total CVD cases, including 801 stroke cases and 2585 total CHD cases, were identified. In multivariable Cox regression analyses, higher levels of log-transformed SII were significantly associated with total stroke (HR 1.224, 95% CI 1.065-1.407) and ischemic stroke (HR 1.234, 95% CI 1.055-1.442). For those participants with the highest quartiles of SII versus the lowest quartiles of SII, the HRs were 1.358 (95% CI 1.112-1.658) for total stroke, 1.302 (95% CI 1.041-1.629) for ischemic stroke, and 1.600 (95% CI 1.029-2.490) for hemorrhagic stroke.

SII may serve as a useful marker to elucidate the role of the interaction of thrombocytosis, inflammation, and immunity in the development of cerebrovascular diseases in the middle-aged and elderly population.

The partial polymerase gene nucleotide sequences of the 365 fowl adenovirus isolates resulted in the following species distribution 11% FAdV-A; 3% FAdV-B; 2% FAdV-C; 34% FAdV-D; and 50% FAdV-E. Noticeably, only 79 of the detected strains could be associated with adenovirus-specific pathologic conditions 62 (79%) with inclusion body hepatitis; 9 (11%) with gizzard erosion; and 8 (10%) with hepatitis hydropericardium syndrome. The remainder of the FAdV strains was detected as concomitant infection from other disease conditions almost exclusively in boilers of 27 to 42 d of age the majority of them was FAdV-E followed by FAdV-D, and to a lesser extent of FAdV-A, B, and C, the latter ones have not been associated with any of the established adenovirus-caused syndromes in our collection. The highest ratio of coinfections was observed for FAdV-B (62%), while it was about 30% for the rest of the FAdV species.
