An Itching Pleasure Abstract. A 50-year-old female patient presents in the emergency department with an itchy, acneiform exanthema on the trunk and malaise for two days. Laboratory testing showed no abnormalities. After further questioning, the patient reported frequent use of her new whirlpool. Based on the medical history and the clinic we suspected a pseudomonas folliculitis. A bacterial culture of the pustules showed growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which confirmed the diagnosis. Systemic antibiotics were not necessary in the absence of risk factors for severe progress or immunosuppression. The exanthema healed within a few days without any complications by using external disinfectants.CME Hypertension and the COVID-19 Pandemic What to Consider in Medical Practice Abstract. The COVID-19 pandemic represents a major public health problem. BBI-355 A fraction of the population is at increased risk of developing complications of this disease, in particular older subjects as well as diabetic, obese and hypertensive patients. With regard to patients with high blood pressure, the existence of an increased risk remains to be confirmed in large controlled trials. So far the findings regarding this question are reassuring, whether these patients are treated or not. There seems to be no reason to worry when using blockers of the renin-angiotensin system. The observations available to date suggest that COVID-19 vaccine can be administered safely to hypertensive patients. In conclusion, there is no reason to implement changes in the care of hypertensive patients due to the pandemic. In adults, an isolated non-traumatic fracture of the lesser trochanter should arouse strong suspicion of an underlying malignant pathology. In this article, we present the case of a 55-year-old male patient who presented with a non-traumatic isolated fracture of the lesser trochanter secondary to a delayed diagnosis of metastases of bronchial carcinoma.
In December 2019, an outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) began in Wuhan, China, and led to a global epidemic. We aimed to compare the clinical and serological features of COVID-19 patients with positive and negative reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests.

This was a retrospective cohort study conducted from 9 February to 4 April 2020. COVID-19 patients at Leishenshan Hospital in Wuhan, China (125 total cases; 87 RT-PCR positive and 38 RT-PCR negative) were included. COVID-19 serology was assessed by colloidal gold assay. All cases were analyzed for demographic, clinical, and serological features.

There were no significant differences in most demographic features, clinical symptoms, complications or treatments of RT-PCR positive and negative COVID-19 patients. Serum IgM/IgG was positive in 82 (94%) and 33 (87%) RT-PCR positive and negative cases, respectively. IgM was detectable as early as 3 days after symptom onset and was undetectable 60 days after symptom onset. By contrast, IgG could be detected only 10 days after symptom onset and reached its peak 60 days after symptom onset.

Serological tests performed during the appropriate time window of disease progression could be valuable auxiliary methods to RT-PCR in COVID-19 patients.

Unfortunately, MTX has many side effects including the hepato-renal toxicity. In this study, we hypothesized that Luteolin (Lut) exhibits protective effect against the MTX-induced hepato-renal toxicity. In order to investigate our hypothesis, the experiment was designed to examine the effect of exposure of male rats to MTX (20 mg/kg, i.p., at day 9) alone or together with Lut (50 mg/kg, oral for 14 days) compared to the control rats (received saline). The findings demonstrated that MTX treatment induced significant increases in the liver and kidney functions markers in serum samples including Aspartate transaminase (AST), Alanine transaminase (ALT), creatinine, urea and uric acid. MTX also mediated an oxidative stress expressed by elevated malondialdehyde (MDA) level and decreased level of reduced glutathione (GSH), antioxidant enzyme activities, and downregulation of the Nrf2 gene expression as an antioxidant trigger. Moreover, the inflammatory markers (NF-κB, TNF-α, and IL-1β) were significantly elevated upon MTX treatment. In addition, MTX showed an apoptotic response mediated by elevating the pro-apoptotic (Bax) and lowering the anti-apoptotic (Bcl-2) proteins. All of these changes were confirmed by the observed alterations in the histopathological examination of the hepatic and renal tissues. Lut exposure significantly reversed all the MTX-induced changes in the measured parameters suggesting its potential protective role against the MTX-induced toxicity. Finally, our findings concluded the antioxidative, anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic effects of Lut as a mechanism of its protective role against the MTX-induced hepato-renal toxicity in rats. The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) has identified food allergies as a critical public health issue that significantly affects quality of life for patients and their families. Despite the crisis-level status of food allergies, especially in children, there are currently no curative treatments. As a result, impacted families must learn how to carry the burden of disease management. Using an expanded application of the concept of communication work, this study features data from interviews with 26 parents of food allergic children and explores how parents navigate the nuances of food allergy maintenance while negotiating and preserving valued relationships and identities through everyday talk. Results revealed that parents used communication to legitimate food allergy, balance potential face-threats with identity and relational goals, and coordinate care with spouses. Due to the lack of therapeutic treatment options, we found that parents utilize communication work, which is both demanding and effortful, as a form of disease management.
