The knowledge gained from these studies needs to be integrated with injury outcome data to determine the appropriateness of rules for maximum speeds and locations of riding in terms of both rider and pedestrian safety.Carpooling consists of drivers and passengers sharing a journey and its costs. Nowadays, in the context of mobility as a service, organized carpooling encompasses a service and trust relationship between drivers and passengers, by matching common routes and splitting cost through mobile phone applications. Therefore, passengers expect a certain level of travel quality and safety. In this context, this research aims to verify the hypothesis that drivers in an organized carpooling situation (CP) show safer driving behavior in terms of speeding (SP) and mobile phone use while driving (MPU) in comparison with non-carpooling (NCP) drivers. The research is based on data from the Brazilian Naturalistic Driving Study (NDS-BR) conducted in the City of Curitiba, with 40.45 driving hours and a traveled distance of 895.87 km. Methodology included the selection of safety performance indicators on SP and MPU, use of nonparametric Wilcoxon signed rank test for safety performance indicator comparisons and Pearson Chi-Square to test the association between CP or NCP and low or high indicator values. Hypothesis test results point in the same direction and partially confirm the initial assumption that CP induces safer behavior in terms of speeding. The statistically sound results showed that CP drivers engaged in less speeding episodes and mobile phone use duration in comparison to NCP drivers, as well as lower speed while using a mobile phone. In addition, driver behavior in CP and NCP situations also differed in terms of the type of MPU, with the proportion of types of use that demand a higher level of visual and manual distraction being higher among NCP drivers. In summary, these results confirm the initial hypothesis of safer driving behavior during carpooling in terms of MPU while driving.The scope of the currentreviewis to discuss and evaluate the role of the external electrical load/resistor (EEL) on the overall behavior and functional properties of microbial fuel cells (MFCs). In this work, a comprehensive analysis is made by considering various levels of MFC architecture, such as electric and energy harvesting efficiency, anode electrode potential shifts, electro-active biofilm formation, cell metabolism and extracellular electron transfer mechanisms, as a function of the EEL and its control strategies. Helicoprorodon multinucleatum is characterized by the combination of the following features (i) a very narrowly worm-like body with a size of about 300-1500 μm × 30-60 μm in vivo, and two circles of horn-like protuberances around the head; (ii) 50-160 spherical macronuclear nodules scattered throughout the body; (iii) rod-shaped, 10-50 μm long extrusomes gathered into several bunches, which are randomly distributed beneath pellicle; and (iv) 42-88 somatic kineties, including four oralized kineties and two dorsal brush rows. Phylogenetic analyses reveal that both the family Helicoprorodontidae and the genus Helicoprorodon might be monophyletic. In addition, we provide an illustrated key to the species and the geographical distribution of the genus Helicoprorodon.Two strains of Sphaerodinium were established from two mountain areas in Portugal and examined by light microscopy, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, and sequence analyses of nuclear-encoded SSU, ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 and LSU rDNA. Both strains were identified as S. polonicum var. tatricum on the basis of comparison with the original taxonomic descriptions within the genus. The two strains were nearly identical in morphology and ultrastructure, except for the presence of pseudograna-like thylakoid stacks within more rounded chloroplast lobes in one of them. Sexual reproduction occurred in culture batches and resting cysts with single or grouped processes with wide bases and distal platforms with slightly recurved margins were seen to develop by sudden retraction of planozygote cytoplasm. Morphological, fine-structural and molecular characters were compared with previously available information from S. cracoviense, allowing for a more robust characterization of the genus. Important characters include a type F eyespot, a pusule canal linking the transverse flagellar canal to a collecting chamber connected to regular pusular tubes, a ventral fibre extending from the proximal-right side of the longitudinal basal body, and a membranous, lamellar body with a honeycomb pattern near the flagellar base area. The latter two features are shared with Baldinia anauniensis.
