Cybersuicide, or suicide mediated by the internet in various ways, is a growing phenomenon worldwide and one which makes an often private act highly public. This paper provides an exploration of one version of cybersuicide suicide that is livestreamed on the internet. Through an analysis of three case studies, this paper asks what light anthropological concepts of performance can shed on cybersuicide? It argues that as a public and social act, cybersuicide needs to be analyzed in terms of how an audience is attracted and retained, as well as the key roles the audience plays in the social practice. This means that cybersuicide has a different structure from suicide offline, impacting how it should be analyzed and understood. This study describes the development of a sensitive and accurate dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction strategy for the preconcentration and determination of selected pesticides in wastewater and lake water samples by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Determination of these pesticides at high accuracy and precision is important because they can be still be found in environmental samples. The type of extraction solvent and type of disperser solvent were optimized using the univariate approach. Furthermore, a Box-Behnken experimental design was used to set up a working model made up of 18 combinations of three variables, tested at three levels. The parameters fitted into the design model were volume of extraction solvent, disperser solvent volume, and mixing period. Analysis of variance was used to evaluate the experimental data to determine the significance of extraction variables and their interactions, before selecting optimum extraction conditions. The method was then applied to aqueous standard solutions between 2.0 and 500 μg L-1, and the limit of detection (LOD) and quantification (LOQ) values obtained for the analytes were between 0.37-2.8 and 1.2-9.4 μg L-1, respectively. The percent recoveries were calculated in the range of 92-114 and 96-110% for wastewater and lake water, respectively. These results validated the accuracy and applicability of the method to the selected matrices.INTRODUCTION Insulin resistance (IR) plays a central role in pathogenesis of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). The aim of this study was to correlate histopathological grading and IR in overweight/obese patients with NASH as compared with lean NASH. METHODS Patients with NASH who underwent liver biopsy between January 2012 and December 2012 were included. Anthropometric, clinical, and biochemical features, necro-inflammatory grades, and fibrosis stage on liver biopsies were scored according to Brunt and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) activity score (NAS). RESULTS Of 42 patients, 33 (78.6%) had body mass index (BMI) ≥ 23 kg/m2 (overweight/obese) while 9 had BMI 4. CONCLUSIONS Although IR was significantly higher in overweight/obese patients with NASH as compared with that in lean patients with NASH, there was no difference in the correlation of HOMA-IR with histology between these groups. In this study, we investigated the effect of cryptic prophage regions in a blaNDM-1-bearing plasmid, which was identified in a patient from South Korea, on the survival of bacteria against adverse environmental conditions. First, we conjugated the intact plasmid and plasmids with deleted cryptic prophages into Escherichia coli DH5α. The E. coli transconjugants carrying the plasmid with intact cryptic prophages showed increased survival during treatment with a high concentration of NaCl, high and low temperatures, an oxidative stressor (H2O2), and an immunological stressor (human serum). By contrast, the transconjugants carrying the plasmid with a single-cryptic prophage knockout did not show any change in survival rates. mRNA expression analyses revealed that the genes encoding sigma factor proteins were highly upregulated by the tested stressors and affected the expression of various proteins (antioxidant, cell osmosis-related, heat shock, cold shock, and universal stress proteins) associated with the specific defense against each stress. These findings indicate that a bacterial strain carrying a plasmid with intact carbapenemase gene and cryptic prophage regions exhibited an increased resistance against simulated environmental stresses, and cryptic prophages in the plasmid might contribute to this enhanced stress resistance. Our study indicated that the coselection of antibiotic resistance and resistance to other stresses may help bacteria to increase survival rates against adverse environments and disseminate.Enterovirus A71 (EV71), the main etiological agent of handfoot-mouth disease (HFMD), circulates in many areas of the world and has caused large epidemics since 1997, especially in the Asia-Pacific region. In this study, we determined the full-genome sequence of CMC718, a newly isolated EV71 strain in Korea. (R)-2-Hydroxyglutarate ic50 The CMC718 genome was 7,415 nucleotides in length and was confirmed by whole-genome phylogenetic analysis to belong to the B5 genotype. In particular, CMC718 demonstrated maximum identity with strain M988 of the B5 genotype and numerous amino acid variants were detected in the 3D domain of the viral protein P3, which is consistent with the mutation pattern of a B5 strain isolated in 2012-2013. Comparison of the CMC718 sequence with other EV71 reference strains confirmed the relationship and genetic variation of CMC718. Our study was a full-genome sequence analysis of the first EV71 strain of the B5 genotype isolated in South Korea. This information will be a valuable reference for the development of methods for the detection of recombinant viruses, the tracking of infections, and the diagnosis of EV71.The Lactobacillus genus is widely used for fermentation of plant materials and dairy products. These species are typically found in highly specialized environments, with the bee gut serving as one of the niche locations in which Lactobacillus is detected. Lactobacillus species isolated from the bee gut and bee-related habitats were phylogenetically classified into three distinct groups, Lactobacillus kunkeei, Firm-4, and Firm-5. The L. kunkeei group was clearly differentiated from other members of the Lactobacillus buchneri group isolated from non-bee habitats. In comparison with non-bee members of the L. buchneri group, three bee-symbiotic Lactobacillus groups had a small-sized genome with low G + C content and showed a sharp reduction in the number of genes involved in energy production, carbohydrate transport and metabolism, and amino acid transport and metabolism. In addition, all three groups lacked the mutY gene, which encodes A/G-specific adenine glycosylase. The phylogenetic dendrogram based on the presence or absence of 1,199 functional genes indicated that these bee-symbiotic groups experienced convergent evolution.
