1/124 application. Obtained results indicated that fabricated nanocomposite might impact proper regeneration of osteoporotic bone, restoring the balance between osteoblasts and osteoclast.
We have described for the first time a new concept of osteoporosis treatment based on nHAp/IO@miR-21/124 application. Obtained results indicated that fabricated nanocomposite might impact proper regeneration of osteoporotic bone, restoring the balance between osteoblasts and osteoclast.
Plasmonic photothermal cancer therapy by gold nanorods (GNRs) emerges as a promising tool for cancer treatment. The goal of this study was to design cationic oligoethylene glycol (OEG) compounds varying in hydrophobicity and molecular electrostatic potential as ligand shells of GNRs. Three series of ligands with different length of OEG chain (ethylene glycol units = 3, 4, 5) and variants of quaternary ammonium salts (QAS) as terminal functional group were synthesized and compared to a prototypical quaternary ammonium ligand with alkyl chain - (16-mercaptohexadecyl)trimethylammonium bromide (MTAB).
Step-by-step research approach starting with the preparation of compounds characterized by NMR and HRMS spectra, GNRs ligand exchange evaluation through characterization of cytotoxicity and GNRs cellular uptake was used. A method quantifying the reshaping of GNRs was applied to determine the effect of ligand structure on the heat transport from GNRs under fs-laser irradiation.
Fourteen out of 18 synthesized OEon at high laser intensity such as drug delivery and photothermal therapy inducing apoptosis.
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the main causes of cancer-related death. Sorafenib, which is the first-line therapy for this disease, is associated with reduced therapeutic efficacy that could potentially be overcome by combination with selumetinib. In this context, the main goal of this work was to develop a new nanosystem, composed of a polymeric core coated by a lipid bilayer containing the targeting ligand GalNAc, to specifically and efficiently co-deliver both drugs into HCC cells, in order to significantly increase their therapeutic efficacy.
The physicochemical characterization of hybrid nanosystems (HNP) and their components was performed by dynamic light scattering, zeta potential, matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization - time of flight mass spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. Cellular binding, uptake and specificity of HNP were evaluated through flow cytometry and confocal microscopy. The therapeutic activity was evaluated namely through cell viability by the Alamartherapeutic approaches against HCC.
The developed formulation resulted in a high and synergistic antitumor effect, revealing a translational potential to improve therapeutic approaches against HCC.Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are a heterogeneous group of membrane-limited vesicles and multi-signal messengers loaded with biomolecules. Exosomes and ectosomes are two different types of EVs generated by all cell types. Their formation depends on local microdomains assembled in endocytic membranes for exosomes and in the plasma membrane for ectosomes. find more Further, EV release is a fundamental process required for intercellular communication in both normal physiology and pathological conditions to transmit/exchange bioactive molecules to recipient cells and the extracellular environment. The unique structure and composition of EVs enable them to serve as natural nanocarriers, and their physicochemical properties and biological functions can be used to develop next-generation nano and precision medicine. Knowledge of the cellular processes that govern EVs biology and membrane trafficking is essential for their clinical applications. However, in this rapidly expanding field, much remains unknown regarding EV origin, biogenesis, cargo sorting, and secretion, as well as EV-based theranostic platform generation. Hence, we present a comprehensive overview of the recent advances in biogenesis, membrane trafficking, and functions of EVs, highlighting the impact of nanoparticles and oxidative stress on EVs biogenesis and release and finally emphasizing the role of EVs as nanotherapeutic agents.[This corrects the article DOI 10.2147/COPD.S268894.].
The Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) 2017 separated pulmonary function from combined assessment. We aimed to analyze the characteristics of airflow limitation and future exacerbations in different GOLD groups of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients.
For this prospective observational study, stable COPD outpatients were enrolled and divided into Groups A, B, C and D based on GOLD 2017, and followed-up for 18 months. Data on demographics, pulmonary function, COPD assessment test (CAT), Clinical COPD Questionnaire (CCQ), modified Medical Research Council (mMRC), exacerbations, mortality and treatments were collected. A post-bronchodilator ratio of forced expiratory volume in one second to forced vital capacity <0.70 confirms the presence of airflow limitation.
A total of 993 subjects were classified into Groups A (n = 170, 17.1%), B (n = 360, 36.3%), C (n = 122, 12.3%), and D (n = 341, 34.3%). There were significant differences in mMRC, CAT, CCQ, exacerbatioad no impact on future exacerbations and mortality rate. It implies that pulmonary function is not a good indicator for predicting exacerbation.
The aim of this study was to identify the relationships between parameters obtained from dynamic-ventilatory digital radiography (DR) and ventilatory disorders.
This study comprised 273 participants with respiratory diseases who underwent spirometry and functional residual capacity measurements (104 with normal findings on spirometry as controls, 139 with an obstructive lung disorder, 30 with a restrictive lung disorder) were assessed by dynamic-ventilatory DR. Sequential chest radiography images of the patient's slow and maximum breathing were captured at 15 frames per second by a dynamic flat-panel imaging system. The system measured the following parameters lung area at maximum inspiration divided by height (lung area_in/height), changes in tracheal diameter due to respiratory motions, rate of tracheal narrowing, diaphragmatic motion, and rate of change in lung area due to respiratory motion. Relationships between these parameters and ventilatory disorders were analyzed.
Lung area_in/height in patients with restrictive disorders showed significant decreases.
