cancer. It is thus valid to mandate reporting STAS status in CAP surgical pathology lung cancer case summaries.Mesonephric remnants are embryonic vestiges of the mesonephric (Wolffian) ducts which regress during normal development. These remnants have been uncommonly reported in the female and male reproductive tract as a spectrum of morphologic lesions that can be misdiagnosed as carcinoma. One case of mesonephric remnant hyperplasia of the jejunal mesentery incidentally found in a 47-year-old man is herein reported. This is the first description of mesonephric hyperplasia arisen in the mesentery. The presence of ducts, tubules, and cysts lined by bland, epithelial, cuboidal cells with scant cytoplasm, and diffuse pseudoinfiltrative growth pattern can raise the possibility of neoplasia. Immunohistochemically, mesonephric epithelia have a characteristic staining. CD10 highlights the apical-luminal aspect of the cells. Besides, intense reactivity is showed for high-molecular-weight cytokeratin (CK), CK7, bcl2, and vimentin. The main differential diagnosis includes mesothelial hyperplasia, epithelial mesothelioma, well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumor, and infiltration due to acinar adenocarcinoma of the prostate. However, a detailed microscopic study with the aid of immunohistochemistry helps separate mesonephric remnants from malignant processes. The mesonephric hyperplasia of the mesentery we have reported adds to the spectrum of mesonephric remnants a new location. Familiarity with this lesion is indispensable to avoid overdiagnosis.
The pulmonary vascular remodeling in systemic sclerosis (SSc) is poorly understood and animal models are lacking. Type V collagen (COLV) is elevated in SSc and is implicated in the pathogenesis, and immunization with human COLV induces SSc-like skin and lung changes in rabbits and mice. Here we tested the hypothesis that COLV immunization will induce pathological and functional changes that phenocopy SSc-associated pulmonary vascular disease.
Pulmonary vascular changes in rabbits immunized with human COLV were extensively characterized by a combination of histology, electron microscopy and immunohistochemistry. Physiologic changes induced by COLV in explanted pulmonary artery rings were evaluated. The pattern of histopathologic alterations and gene expression induced in immunized rabbits were compared to those in SSc patients.
COLV immunization was accompanied by striking pulmonary vascular abnormalities, characterized by reduced capillary density, perivascular inflammation, endothelial cell injury and gy. Moreover, our findings suggest that COLV might represent a novel pathogenic autoantigen in SSc and future studies with the present model should be developed for possible association with PAH.
The distinction between multiple primary lung cancers (MPLCs) and intrapulmonary metastases has a significant impact on tumor staging and therapeutic choices. Several criteria have been proposed to solve this diagnostic issue, but a definitive consensus is still missing. We tested the efficacy of a combined clinical, histopathological and molecular ("real world") approach for the correct classification of multiple lung tumors in a selected cohort of patients.
24 multiple lung tumors with a diagnosis of adenocarcinoma from 10 patients were retrospectively reviewed. Radiological, pathological and clinical information, including follow-up, were integrated with molecular profiling via a routine multigene panel sequencing.
Comprehensive histologic assessment revealed readily distinguishable histologic patterns between multiple tumors suggesting unrelated lesions in 7 cases, in agreement with clinical, radiological and molecular data, thus leading to final diagnosis of MPLCs. NVP-ADW742 In the remaining 3 cases, the differential diagnosis between MPLCs and intrapulmonary metastases was challenging, since the histologic features of the lesions were similar or identical. The final interpretation (2 MPLCs and 1 most likely intrapulmonary metastases) was reached thanks to the integration of all available data, and was confirmed by follow-up.
A multidisciplinary approach including a routinely affordable multigene panel sequencing is a useful tool to discriminate MPLCs from intrapulmonary metastases in multiple lung nodules sharing the adenocarcinoma histotype.

In addition to its participation in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disorders, it partake in the carcinogenesis process. Numerous in vitro studies have reported elevation of expression of BCYRN1 in cancer cell lines. Short hairpin-RNA-mediated silencing of BCYRN1 has attenuated growth of tumors in the animal models. Independent studies in esophageal squamous cell cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma and non-small cell lung cancer have demonstrated association between elevated BCYRN1 levels and poor survival of patients. Taken together, BCYRN1 is an appropriate candidate for targeted therapies in the field of cancer.Intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) is an age-related degenerative disease that is the main cause of low back pain. It seriously affects the quality of life of patients and places a heavy economic burden on families and society. The Wnt pathway plays an important role in the growth, development, and degeneration of intervertebral discs (IVDs). In the embryonic stage, the Wnt pathway participates in the growth and development of IVD by promoting the transformation of progenitor cells into notochord cells and the extension of the notochord. However, the activation of the Wnt pathway after birth promotes IVD cell senescence, apoptosis, and degradation of the extracellular matrix and induces the production of inflammatory factors, thereby accelerating the IVDD process. This article reviews the relationship between the Wnt pathway and IVD, emphasizing its influence on IVD growth, development, and degeneration. Targeting this pathway may become an effective strategy for the treatment of IVDD.
